Regardless of interpretation, I find strahd to be such a pitiful creature. I can't imagine what it would feel like to obsess but never love, to rage but never in the place of someone who can't. To have the need to be adored, and wanted without being able to do the same for another. Any attempts to love are but a mimicry of what he remembers; of what he knows it should look like. A soulless creature in an empty castle in a realm he can't escape.

honestly you all are so annoying because motherhood IS interesting but fandom people are simultaneously obsessed with deciding that every woman has motherly qualities and completely disinterested in actually exploring motherhood as a role that informs a character. I do think exploring a character being a mother can be wildly interesting if they are canonically one, but because of misogyny, people just view motherhood as a totally unremarkable naturalized state that all women must inhabit!

my only real opinion on the 5e module besides like, what the glaring issues are, is that redemption is a power fantasy too and how can you expect people to go through a realm dripping with grief and cycles of violence and expect it to be solved through more of the same?

if your players want to redeem strahd or help him instead of kill him then let them struggle to do it but let there be a way to do it, it isn't wrong or bad to want there to be something romantic and loving in a monster and i don't care who tries to moralize that. and of course, that applies to all the incredibly nasty people in this module. just make sure everyone is on the same page like any other ttrpg and having fun and you are winning, and don't punish people for hoping especially if their whole heart is in it omg
