For fun, here are some interesting comparisons between the 2023 Tumblr data we are using for this poll, and the All-Time AO3 data from last poll!

Some of the most popular mediums for both sets were live-action television and anime. However, this poll sees a huge boost of pairings from western animation and video games, as well as podcast characters, who were nowhere in the AO3 lineup!

As opposed to the AO3 data, Tumblr's ship data does not include platonic ships. M/M still dominates, but the number of F/F competitors has gone from 4 to 14! F/M stays at a steady 10 (as opposed to 13 in the AO3 pool), with the remaining ships falling under "Other" for containing non-binary or unspecified gender characters.

In the AO3 data, 55 of the pairings listed consisted of two white characters, and 24 consisted of two asian characters. This is now down to 37 and 13 respectively. The Tumblr stats in general saw a rise in Indigenous, Latine, and nonhuman characters, as well as characters of unspecified race.
