I find it really amusing that Nancy’s guns usually never do anything helpful to the plot.  

Season 1, her guns didn’t do anything against the demogorgon. (A trend that we see continuing in ST4 at the Russian Prison) 

ST2, she doesn’t even shoot anything, they just use it as a moment for the viewers to see that Nancy is still capable of handling guns, despite this one being bigger than the one that she canonically used in St1 and she is never seen practicing with a larger one or even mentioning it. It’s a bigger gun, kickback will be stronger. 

Season 3, I’m not going to comment about the Mind Flayer scene at the cabin because I haven’t watched it in a while…. but against Billy in the car. It does absolutely nothing. He doesn’t flinch. She just keeps shooting at his windshield. Steve has to crash his car into Billy to keep it from hitting them. If they really wanted to show Nancy’s gun being effective, they should have tried to get her to attack the car, not the driver, like Steve did. Showing her shooting at the wheels of the car would probably look less cool but it would be more effective. 

Season 4 in the final fight…Nancy doesn’t shoot Vecna until he’s already on fire and she shoots him multiple times, yet he doesn’t die. This is the awful writing of the Duffer Brothers, and they need to have an adequate explanation for it next season. Like Vecna couldn’t be killed by fire, bullets or falling from a height. What will kill him?

Also I want to talk about the fact that Nancy pointed a fully loaded gun at Steve with her finger on the trigger. That is not badass, that is not her standing up to Steve. That is the most fucking dangerous thing you can do with a gun. You are never supposed to point a gun at anything you wouldn’t want to shoot. It infuriates me that she just waves her gun around, when it’s extremely likely that she would have ended up shooting one of her allies doing that. 

Update (03/22/23) - I just watched the cabin scene and yeah, Nancy’s guns do nothing. It’s Lucas who grabs an ax and cuts the mind flayer. Nancy does absolutely nothing helpful in this scene, in fact there was a decent chance she could have ended up shooting Lucas or El.

Something that always makes me giggle when I think about it is how Nancy having guns is seen as badass. In show and in the fandom.

It has been repeatedly stated that guns don't do anything against UD monsters. Nancy isn't badass cuz she has guns. She's stupid
