Cadaqués: Where I left my worries behind the mountains.
As for me, Cadaqués is absolutely the most beautiful village in Catalonia.
Situated on the north of the Costa Brava, Cadaqués is approximately two and a half hours’ drive from Barcelona. This picturesque town became a popular retreat for it’s most famous European artist: Salvador Dalí.
Seeing as I arrived at night, it wasn’t until the next day that I really got to appreciate the unique location that Cadaqués is set in. When I woke the next morning, I got to see what is that has made this sleepy fishing village grow into a popular summer holiday spot.
Although the town is small in size, there are plenty of things to see and discover. Characterised by its cobbled streets and white buildings, simply walking around the town is a treat for the eyes. It also boasts a picture-perfect seafront with stunning views of Mediterranean, making for the perfect spot to grab an ice-cream and explore the charming buildings that line the coast.
Tumblr media
Located at the highest point of the Old Town, the centrepiece is the Santa Maria de Cadaqués church. Built in the late Gothic style of the mid-16th century, the cathedral stands out amid the winding, narrow streets that surround it. The pure white facade is typical of Costa Brava architecture. With a wonderful view over the bay, it’s the perfect spot to see Cadaqués in all its glory.
If you’re looking to venture out slightly further, a scenic 15-20 minutes walk you can find a neighbouring village called Portlligat, which is home to Casa Salvador Dalí. Today’s presented as a beautiful and truly unique museum.
Tumblr media
Cap de Creus natural park should also be on your list of things to do! Home to an endless amount of beautiful landscape, this natural park will be sure to amaze any visitor. Due to the effects of erosion, its structures and outcrops make up a whimsical landscape that you won’t find anywhere else. The breathtaking views of the rocky cliffs and hidden coves of the wild coastline will most certainly remain in your memory after you leave.
Tumblr media
If you have more time and don’t feel like leaving just yet, explore the peninsula around Cadaqués - it’s absolutely breathtaking. The bay of Roses with a beautiful citadel that you can visit. On the other side of the peninsula lies Selva del Mar, a small fisherman’s town. The Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, hidden between the sea and the mountains, is also worth the visit!
As the local saying goes, “When you come to Cadaqués, you leave your worries behind the mountains.” The natural scenery, history and architecture, this fishing town has it all.

IBIZA: EXPLORING BEYOND THE PARTIES
This destination is known as the party island of the Balearics, but there is more to explore...
Ibiza is many things: ad-lib, hippy, beach paradise, fashionista, clubber, all-night raver... Ibiza is all you need for a perfect summer vacation – and that’s why it attracts millions of tourists every summer.
Tumblr media
This was a very unexpected trip since I’m not the type of person who spends summer in a hot weather places but somehow I end up on this island and I confess, I pretty much try avoid going out on summer unless it gets chilly but I guess that was an exception since I was feeling a bit down that time also I got to spend it with some friends of mine. Here’s the funny stuff, without noticing my friends that I was gonna join them for the trip I bought my ticket for a flight after my shift as my friends took the first flight in the morning, so I called them on my break time to tell them the fact that I was arriving by noon and asked them if they were gonna be able to meet me at the airport. As I was on the flight I remembered that I haven’t booked a hotel room yet (since I wasn’t even sure if I really wanted to go) so as soon as I hop on the car with my friends I asked which was the name of the hotel and tried to book a room immediately and at first the receptionist wasn’t able to find my booking but it was because it takes about and hour or so to appear on the system if the reservation was made through a third party source.
It was my second time on this island but it’s still a very special place and what I love most about the island is that it has still managed to keep its history and local traditions, likewise in the other Balearic Islands. So after lunch we grab the car and went to the Cala d’Hort at Sant Josep de Talaia to watch the sunset with the view of the island of Es Vedrà. Pictures cannot do justice to this place. The feeling of serenity and mystery that you get while viewing it from atop the hill is mesmerising.
Tumblr media
Dalt Vila is the old town of Ibiza which is full of charming little streets with jewellery shops, art galleries and many lively bars and restaurants. It’s so nice to have a walk around this part of Ibiza in the evening just before sunset. And from the top of Dalt Vila  you will see beautiful panoramic views over the rest of the town and the bay.
Another great thing about Ibiza is that it’s only a 30 mins boat ride from Formentera which is well known for its amazing fine white sandy beaches and crystal clear turquoise sea. You can either take a public ferry or rent a private boat for the day. As we get there we rented another car for a day to easily explore the island and visit different beaches... our first stop was Platja des Pujols it is located near the town center probably 5 minutes driving from the port, it has the shape of two semicircles separated by a row of rocks and in front there is an island that you can reach by swimming 5 minutes and it has a small beach with white sand and crystal clear water inside. Of course, we had to visit Platja de Ses Illetes, it has an indescribable beauty and only seeing it can be understood. It is rightly known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Then we moved to Platja de Llevant which is basically Ses Illetes plus waves, but stll fine to swim in and also a great option for a quieter place to enjoy the sun and relax. It’s a quite large and long beach, pleasant even for a walk along the shore.
And to rest from the sun and heat we hop on the car and drove to Far del Cap de Barbaria. It’s one of the places that you reach to feel peace and united with the nature. Definitely a focal point in Formentera, looks like the end of the world - so quiet.
Tumblr media
Straight back to our hotel for a refreshing shower and take rest/nap from all the moving and walking under that 32ºC degrees of hot weather. We went back to Dalt Vila to spend the rest of the night, visit the Castell d’Eivissa to enjoy and grab some drinks for a chilled night beachfront hang-out.
On our last day, after checking out we went straight to Sant Antoni de Portmany to visit more beaches and calas since our flight leave at the afternoon. Our first stop was Cala Saladeta, probably the most espectacular cala in Ibiza! Crystal clear water and it has two parts one with soft sand and one with rocks for some fun jumping from...  although getting there was not that easy cause there’s a short hike over stones which I think it helps to keep it as wild as original. And for the last but not least Cala Gració a really nice picturesque beach, with clear, warm water and lots of fish to watch; they like to “kiss” your legs! I’d say it’s a perfect place to enjoy some sun.

Copenhagen (CPH)
Copenhagen was my last trip on 2019. The city itself was nice with an easy life vibes, not too big to explore but I have to say that I really enjoyed walking getting lost on its streets and treating myself as a local going with a bike all around.
As soon as we landed, I took my time get off the plane and let other passengers to leave the plane since they’re always too excited also because it was too early for me to go the hotel. So on my way to the exit area I saw a jewellery store and of course, I end up buying a pair of earrings, then there was this coffee shop and God! the smell of a good coffee! so I had to stop buy a large cappuccino and also a cinnamon bread... ¿because why not, right? we’re on vacation! As I was waiting for my order I remembered that I didn’t have a fucking itinerary, like I didn’t even know what’s around my hotel area other than it’s near the Central Station, I get my self a table and start checking for places to go and stuff to do in Copenhagen.
After leaving all my stuff in the room, went straight out to start the “tour” and since I didn’t really know where to start or why am I even doing in that city. The hotel has this river called Sankt Jørgens Sø right on its side so I went there to start also there was the Tycho Brahe Planetarium, so I sat on a bench right in front of the lake to enjoy the view and the peace of that area there was no other sounds just the ducks and people walking or running by the time. After feeling the warm of the sun I went straight to its city alleys just to walk around as usual until getting into some random place to take a picture or so and by going through Det Ty Teater alley I end up into this church called Elijah’s Church that it looks more like a little castle to me. I don’t know if it was just me but I couldn’t find any local food I would say so after wandering around I end up eating lunch at Wok Baren, I have to say that the food worths five starts and place was very fancy; even the washroom.
Went back to the hotel to rest a bit since I had to wake up early that day for the flight and also check what to do by the afternoon, I guess I can say I was pretty lucky that day because I had the chance to enter and enjoy the Tivoli Gardens which is a 19th-century amusement park, the place that inspired Walt Disney. I really enjoyed my visit so much since it was not that busy so I had the luxury of strolling around and and taking photos. It is surely one of its kind and as it’s situated in the very centre of Copenhagen. There are many different ways to entertain yourself there, extreme rides for thrill seekers, easy rides for the little ones, restaurants and lounges for the tired ones or elderly. I also had the chance to enjoy a ‘Free Concert’ of ABBA to end the night and also because they were about to close the venue and change its them for Halloween and they were gonna take at least two or three weeks to reopen. Lucky me!
Tumblr media
Second day was surely more intense since I spend the whole day outside and check the other half of the city: Nyhavn and get a walk by the seafront to see The Little Mermaid which is not very spectacular, much more like a tourist trap but it's an enjoyable 30 minutes walk to get there. As I turned around I divert my walk to see the Gefionspringvandet (Gefion fountain) which is a bronze fountain depicting Norse goddess Gefion and on it’s side there was St Alban’s Church a traditional English Angelican church. Which it leads you to Kastellet a star-shaped military fortess and ramparts. On my way back to Nyhavn I preferred to get lost on it’s alleys and amazed by seeing this hidden jewel Frederik’s Church, an 18th-century Lutheran church with the largest dome in Scandinavia.
Back to Nyhavn port we’ll find the Mindeankeret (Memorial Anchor) and the view of the colourful historic canalfront townhouses with wooden ships. A very scenic location but also very touristy; I know I am a tourist as well. Took a walk a bit further down to where there were some old warehouse that had been converted into apartments. Had lunch and some wine. Both were delicious.
Tumblr media
I took another bike from Nyhavn port to cross the Inderhavnsbroen bridge to get to Christianshavn and see the Freetown Christiania which is a kind of experience; a complete different place in comparison to Copenhagen, it’s like the little mole in the city that makes it incredibly better. A few walks from Christiania there was this impressive baroque church called Church of Our Saviour, and I don’t even know why, but this was one of the most relaxing places I have visited. It’s an 17th-century place of worship with a carillon and steps around the outside of the spire, unfortunately, I couldn’t go up the tower due to high winds on that day. Another bridge that connect both island is the Knipplesbro a moveable bridge with interesting green columns and to enjoy the beautiful views of the modern Copenhagen seafront. There’s a boardwalk downstairs to get to the Five Circles Bridge a very interesting and cool bridge. Perfect place to take photos. Hooping back on a bicycle, we’ll cross the Lille Langebro bridge straight to the Danish Architecture Centre which is a restores warehouse to leave the bike and behind it Frederiksholms Kanal surrounding several museums like the Danish War Museum, Danish Jewish Museum, Enquestrian statue of Christian IX, Thorvaldesens Museum and The Royal Library.

Málaga (AGP)
Málaga was my first destination; it’s a small city which I felt really comfortable with since the first day and it was pretty easy to move around since you don’t have to take the public transportation unless you’re too far from the city center or too lazy to climb up the mountain of Gibralfaro, which is a good hike and fun exploring.
I pretty much been wandering around the town since I haven’t planned anything or even check the must-see places. So I started to walk the Calle Larios, is a pedestrian and shopping street of Málaga and lucky me it was decorated with it’s Christmas lights! So after checking some local stores and a quick lunch, I arrived to the Plaza de la Constitución the main town square which it was also known as “Plaza de las Cuatro Calles” (Four streets square), among the buildings that surround the plaza is the Casa del Consulado (Mayor’s home) which is now a tourist office and the Iglesia del Santo Cristo de la Salud. Moving along the street you’ll also find the Carmen Thyssen Museum, as I kept going into its streets aimlessly in an unassuming narrow street in the old Jewish quarter, at just few meters away from the Picasso Museum is the beautifully 18th century building housing authentic Arabic Baths for a real ‘hammam’ experience. When night fell I went back out of the hotel to see the Christmas light show on Calle Larios, which was magnificent.
Tumblr media
On day two I already knew more or less where else to start and what places to visit beyond the center so I went back to Plaza de la Constitución and enjoy a continental breakfast at Café Central Málaga, and if you’re a huge fan of coffee as me, the the tiled coffee menu on the wall is going to really excite you, and it makes for a great Instagram photo, too. This time I decided to visit the coast that along the way you find the Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga, a really must see when in Málaga, stunning interior with amazing craftsmanship and other than the grandiosity it is a good example of a well-preserved and well-organised landmark. Down the street would be the urban park Parque de Málaga and on the other side of the road its harbour Port of Málaga with the ‘Big Wheel’, walking by the seafront Paseo del Muelle Uno led me to this neighbourhood called La Malagueta where the Plaza de Toros and Playa la Malagueta are located. And in the upper part of the neighbour is the Castillo de Gibralfaro, a historic fort has protected Málaga and it’s harbour for hundreds of years. The long climb to the top is worth the effort and the views are spectacular! **two tips: wear good shoes and carry zero.**
Tumblr media
And on my last day I woke up early and went to the Arabic baths center “Hammam Al Ándalus Baños Árabes” that I found the first day since it really caught my attention and making the reservation later that same night. It was a wonderful antidote after those long days of sightseeing and busy shopping.

the Journey
My journey started when I challenged myself to travel alone. I knew it was gonna be a big challenge for me since I’m a very introvert person although a daring person so I thought “why not give it a shot, right?” “what’s the worst that could happen?” “getting lost?” None of it was kinda big deal for me. So after knowing my working schedule I checked some destinations even though I knew where I wanted to start so I purchased those plane tickets right away, booked a hotel near the city center and that’s pretty much it... I had a trip; all by myself. Alone. Not knowing exactly what were I’m gonna do there.
And in order to my blog title Be Right Back Mom. I’m not that type of person who shares about my life plans, nor to my relatives or parents... I basically get out of the house and never return, they’ll just find it out once I posted it in any of my social media where I am currently tho. That’s how I become “la oveja viajera de la familia” <the traveling sheep of the family>
I can say that I’m not the type of traveler who plans its trips and I pretty much wanders around each city or town by walking the whole day, eating on the local restaurants (not even knowing what they serve) and even getting a on train out of nowhere and so I get to visit another town to spend few hours, or else I end up doing some touristy stuffs.
So the more I travel, the more I learn about the world surrounding me, discovering abilities that I never believe I have and also experiences that I will never forget. I guess my purpose on my travels are get to know as much places as I can and see those peculiarities of each one of them.
Got to admit, I am really lucky to have the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world and seeing lots of new things. So I wanted to share it and I hope I would inspire you to travel as well.
