Hey! I’m Quill, I am a story teller and an illustrator, this is a safe space for everyone! (except racists, pedos, and etc) My pronouns are he/they and I’m your uncle now. No take backs. I’m a minor. Don’t be gross.
So there’s this huge dudebro in my class, who, yesterday, sat next to me. And I’m sitting there sweating because like… I’m wearing my shirt with the lesbian flag on it, and he’s the most popular jock in school, and always has this look on his face that say ‘I can and will kill you’. He looks me up and down, stares at me for a minute and then goes, “So. Girls in skirts and long socks, am I right?”
To which I nodded solemnly, both out of agreement, surprise and also a healthy amount of awkward fear. He nodded and went, “You get it.”
I said, “Yep.” He fistbumped me, and on went our lives.
Here’s a serious question from me, an abled person.
Why do disabled people have to adapt for abled people?
For example; I’ve heard a lot of Deaf individuals having to learn how to read lips, or learn how to talk verbally, because most hearing people don’t know ASL.
Why isn’t American Sign Language one of the languages they teach in public school?
Another example; I know that for a lot of buildings there usually aren’t ramps for wheelchairs.
Why is that? If it’s about costs, isn’t it cheaper to plan public buildings that have both ramps and stairs, than having to add a ramp afterwards?
Of course, you should add ramps to buildings if they don’t have them already, but it’s still a good question.
I get it will be harder for a disabled person, but why do abled people make it so much harder for disabled people to, I don’t know, exist? It’s frustrating as hell to see, and I don’t even face the crap that disabled folks have to.
And insulin costs??? Diabetic folks need that shit to live and it can cost like, a month’s rent at a small apartment.
Why do we do this???
Seriously, what the fuck.
And for folks who need frequent hospital visits, what if they don’t have insurance? Do disabled folks get good insurance? I don’t know enough about that stuff to actually be helpful.
Why did I not know about these things until I saw disabled content creators talking about it? Why did I not know about these things until I saw Gofundmes for good wheelchairs, insulin, surgeries, etc?
I don’t get why talking about disabled people is such a “hush-hush topic” for abled folks.
Why do abled people make it so much harder for disabled people? It doesn’t make sense unless we’re so insecure about disabled people being actual human beings that we deny it and make it harder for them to live. Like making mobility aids, or medication they need to live, expensive as fuck.
Again, I am an abled person and I am privileged. I don’t have to worry about this stuff for myself.
Also, if I used offensive language or incorrect words, please let me know, I am trying to educate myself better.
YOU ARE AS HUMAN AS THE EARTH BREATHES ITS SOIL, AS THE HEART BEATS TO ITS SONG, AS THE WIND SINGS ITS SOFT MELODIES, AS THE RAIN SORROWS ITS LOSSES, YOU ARE HUMAN AND YOU ARE HERE. THANK YOU.
I’m gonna be taking a break for who knows how long for 2021, I’ll be trying to clean up my blog a bit but besides that, I’m most likely not going to be very active.
2021 I’ll be working on being on social media a lot less. My brain needs to chill.
I won’t delete my blog or deactivate it, but I will be taking a break for a while.
I feel like this random quiz took a look through the hallways of my memories and carefully picked out each one to describe me. I’m gonna work on my book damn.
Hey, check out my uquiz. If nothing else you can just judge me based on the questions.
Let’s make this a tag game too! Tag 5 friends if you take it!
What really pains me about how morally fucked up and bluntly racist the Wonder Woman movies are, is that they still go on to be successful and make a lot of money. Aside from a few Muslims on social media (and even fewer non-Muslim who would like our posts/tweets for brownie points, but still go to watch the movie afterwards) almost no one is really participating in the conversation about the pro-IDF propaganda and racist portrayal of Arabs in these movies, even though people have out-right boycotted movies in the past that weren’t as offensive as the WW movies, but for some reason that same energy isn’t present right now, even the most woke “SJW” are ignoring all the controversy around these movies and instead choose to drool over how hot this white actress with mediocre acting skills is and how female-empowering her movies are.
The phrase “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is misleading af.
Your trauma doesn’t get the credit for making you stronger.
You were the one who made the decision to recover and put the work in to get there. You were the one who rose from your own ashes. You were the one who put yourself back together again like smashed pottery repaired with veins of gold. You are the flowers that sprouted through the cracks in the tarmac. You stuck around and you fought and you learned and you grew.
The thing that nearly killed you shouldn’t get the credit for making you stronger - you did that.
