I’m writing a LitRPG for a writeathon. But I don’t particularly ~enjoy~ LitRPGs or systems, so I’m mostly exploring how having a big honking interface controlling how you interact with the world could cause problems, actually.

It’s also an enemies to lovers slowburn (go with what you know, yeah?) and the protagonists are named after Calaf and Princess Turandot… because. Because of the play.

Just had a breakthrough regarding Stellaron Hunter recruiting order lore/who came to recruit Kafka.

Okay. So it’s been speculated since the Sam reveal about the exact order that the Stellaron Hunters were recruited in. We know based on character stories that Sam and Kafka picked up Blade, and that Sam, Kaf, Blade, and (some other figure described only as “and …” - common knowledge seems to have assumed this was Elio himself. I suspect it’s equally likely, knowing what we’ve learned since, that this is the Trailblazer)

This firmly puts Blade -> Silver Wolf as the final two.

Now, Kafka’s recruiting is detailed in her final lvl 80 character story. Elio provided a great deal of really specific scenario-setting information done to create a butterfly effect of coincidences meant to create a future where Kafka actually listens to his proposal to join him. The person he gave these instructions to is kept purposefully ambiguous.

People seem to be operating off the assumption that Sam was the one sent to recruit her. Therefore Sam was the ‘first’ Stellaron Hunter. However, elements of the scenario seem to point away from this:

1) Sam says that Elio’s instructions for them are always very brief and laconic. Elio’s instructions for recruiting Kafka are incredibly complicated, again, to set up a very narrow window where she’ll actually listen to his offer.

2) Elio’s instructions to his messenger if Kafka does not listen or does not accept the recruitment pitch is ‘she WILL kill you. Rest assured I’ll ensure your desired future comes to pass after your death.’ This has two problems: first, Sam’s wish for the future (as far as we know) requires that they live. Second, and, now, I’m the biggest Kafka fanboy imaginable and Sam DOES have lightning weakness, but I think it’s a tall order for her, even with Spirit Whisper and a John Wick-level of physical acumen, to effortlessly trash the 12-ton Swarm-annihilating death mecha to the point where retreat or fighting back is not even considered a possible future by Elio the all-seeing prophet.

I was suspecting Elio was using disposable goons at this early point. But what if… he sent the Trailblazer? It would fit TB and Kafka’s whole dynamic as ‘each other’s destiny’ - put them together early on so they fight side by side and bond, and have Trailblazer well trained by Kafka in time for Blade to recall the pair being inseparable by the time he’s recruited.

So, the order by which Stellaron Hunters were recruited is thus:

1) Elio. (Founder/Boss)

2) Trailblazer (perhaps found and/or augmented or whatever was done to prepare them as a Stellaron Vessel by Elio t with his future sight)

3) Kafka (recruited by, in this telling, TB themselves with specific instructions from Elio)

4) Sam (being discovered in a Glammoth wreck by both Kaf and TB would seem to fit where Sam’s story is going and would give Sam and TB reasons to have a tender shared backstory moreso than, say, TB and Silver Wolf)

5) Blade (confirmed recruited by both Sam and Kafka)

6) Silver Wolf (confirmed recruited by Kafka, Blade, Sam, and ‘…’)

In short: TB recruiting Kafka, then Kaf and TB recruiting Sam seems to make the most sense thematically for everyone involved.

kafka & trailblazer is imo the best relationship of hsr and no one can change my mind on this...

the literature references, the cowherd and the weaver girl, the symbolism, the lingering fondness from both sides? the language? the way they're tied to each other's destiny? the incomplete human versus the artificial being possibly finding ‘humanity’ within each other?

kafka's desired future is inseparable from the trailblazer's existence, she's only one half of her own desired existence and the other half is the trailblazer...

all this is to say that their relationships FUCKS and is definitely the best one to come out of this game
