What would you say is the most difficult part about Keyframes right now?

ooh, good question!

i think the important thing to note is that everyone on our staff is working as efficiently and as productively as they can, haha. but, i'd argue that the hardest bit of work right now is clearing the hurdle to script finalization. i've mentioned it before, but our scripts for each scene ranges anywhere from 40-60k because of how many variables we account for and branching paths you could feasibly go on.

if you take that into consideration with the barbecue event (which was our otojam demo but we've rehauled top-down, so please do play it again once we release!), which is somewhere around 55k words—we're talking >250k words! the average player, of course, won't see them all (and if you do, i have to applaud you), but we have to account for every possible contingency and pathing. writing it, backreading to make sure we didn't miss any variable calls, editing—it's a lot!

i don't even want to think about the wc of a completed game, lmao.

but, with that said: basically once we get this done, everything else lines up and should be ready to go to our programming team!

while its a romance vn so obv romance is a big focus i will say mc becoming friends w the boys is just as exciting to me. especially playing w different personalities!! winter mc’s dynamic w the boys especially is so funny to me lolol

honestly, we tend to refer to it as a slice of life vn more than anything else! romance's definitely a part of it, but like you said it's honestly super fun getting to experiment with the season dynamics with the characters, lol. winter's easily one of my favorites to write lines for since winter personalities are usually pretty pre-disposed to being kind of sarcastic and dry, haha.

Would you guys ever share us behind the scenes designs for the characters. Like early designs or redesigns and why you choose that specifically for them?

Like why give Elio a bucket hat instead of a regular hat? Reynah with her cute design. Etc.

we might! we were considering it in the event that we release an art book at some point, but that'd be way, way down the line. most of it is pure vibes. i'm actually pretty bad at imagining things in my head and wasn't in a directorial role at the time they were designed, so marina did a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of visualizing them.

sorry if this is a repeated question but we won't be able to see the number of stats we have, right? Especially depending on which season personality we pick. Like a bar for high/low confidence, stuff like that? So we won't know if we might hit a stat check at some point. Would that be something to be added when the game gets funded?

I discovered this game a week ago and I love it. The boys are so 🥰💕it's so hard to pick a favorite, I've been mostly spending my time browsing this blog and reading asks. You guys are cool 🫶

we're actually in the process of developing an interface to show how your stats change and fluctuate through the course of the game! we're glad that you like our silly boys, haha. our writing team spends a lot of time trying to make them come off that way and i spend most of my time giving them inane quirks and hobbies, lol.

so if Deja really needs her glasses for reading (i love the idea and design!) how bad is Percy and Dejas eyesight? have they been wearing glasses for long? just curious! Percys sprite with glasses... he wears glasses for classes and then goes around with contacts for the events? ughh contacts 💀

haha, if i remember right: deja's isn't god awful but she needs them when she's reading. she started needing them around her teen years and then percy's needed glasses literally his entire life, lmao. he wears his contacts all the time when he's outside, haha. he only really wears his glasses at home and, even then, it's really only when/if he's not already wearing contacts for the day.

For the events where we get phone calls asking us to hang out, will it always be the same person inviting us out for that one event or will it change depending on certain things? Thank you!

It changes! Partly based on the event and partly if it’s your first iteration of hearing it or not.

Omg someone’s curious about Mace? Wait this is my baby! Aww someone’s interested about my baby! AND YOU WANT TO DRAW ‘EM?? I’m so touched :,)

Okay okay! So first things first, Mace is genderfluid! Mace is what they go by when they don’t want to present a specific identity, Mason is for when he’s masculine presenting and then Macy for when she’s fem presenting. People around them usually figure out how to refer to them based on her appearance and the buttons he has on, and Macy would— of course— prefer that you refer to them for how they’re presenting that day. In that, please don’t use whatever/any. She wears the buttons for a reason ^^,

He is Deja’s and MC’s RA so they oversee the entire floor. I did have her major in Mechanical Engineering, but that might change. I just think she’s pretty smart in the head and diligent with their hands. The energy they output is mostly if not always low, so they give off extreme “I’m tired, please don’t bother me” or like disappointed parent vibes. The people on his floor usually don’t take them seriously, but when push comes to shove Macy can wrangle anyone in line and nothing escapes her watchful eye. After all, they got the position for a reason haha

They’re also in the same year as Cameron and Jamie so they’d graduate a year before MC!

Appearance wise, they switch up too often for me to give you any one style. He can wear flowery sweaters or tec wear or rompers or anything really! It’s just based on how she’s feeling that day. Even their hair changes because he’s got wigs lying around.

But I guess things that are consistent is that she has black hair, and it’s kept pretty short with an undercut. And in fact, they usually roll with their natural hair when they’re using they/them pronouns. I also picture her as central Asian buuuut I still need to think of the specifics, soooo that’s about as far as I got with them. ^^

You guys will learn more a bit more about her and Rory and most NPCs we introduce in the extended demo. But I’m glad you guys are already interested to know more about the others :,))

P.S. in case there are people who are hesitating on how to refer to Mace because their identity is intertwined with the buttons, and their appearance— you’re more than welcome to use Mace and They/Them pronouns in general situations or use all three pronouns like I had. I only ask that if there ARE visuals, like someone made art or we release art, that you kindly use the correct pronouns for them/him/her ^^,
