Alright let’s beat the dead horse to the ground so hard that it can travel to the center of the earth. I found a tweet from someone who tries to defends Bakugo’s resurrection and say how it and his death raised the stakes in the final arc. I’m not going to reveal who made the tweet just to protect their identity but if you’ve been on Twitter you’ll most likely know where this paragraph came from.
“Edgeshot knows he can’t come back from this. Edgeshot is sacrificing his life to save a kid’s life I want everyone to remember that there aren’t as many pro heroes left after the first war many of the pros retired because of the discourse that happened after the first war. Plus, we know edgeshot’s efforts were in vain now, because Edgeshot isn’t the one who revived him He helped hold him together, but he didn’t bring him back to life. By pure luck, Bakugo’s own sweat exploded and jump started his heart. This type of stuff is seen in Shonen all the time, so I don’t wanna hear any complaining about this one. (Jjba pt3 spoilers until ⭐️) Let’s not forget when Star Platinum stopped Jotaro’s heart so Dio couldn’t hear the beat ⭐️”
First of all, I could care very little if Edgeshot was one of the majority of heroes that retired after the events of the war arc. Edgeshot as a character is a nobody. I’ll be honest, I thought he was pretty cool when he showed up in Kamino and his quirk looked interesting. But just like a majority of characters with interesting concepts, Edgeshot falls back into the corner and is given barely anything to do and has had no meaningful impact and connection with anyone before the final arc even started. I don’t feel anything about him sacrificing himself for Bakugo because he has never been shown or established to have any sort of character for me to give a crap about. I don’t care if he and Best Jeanist were students together at UA. I don’t care if he’s going to end up as dental floss for the rest of his life. I certainly don’t give a crap that Bakugo is now feeling grateful to be brought back by some hack who he had barely knew.
Speaking of Bakugo, if all of this is really Horikoshi intended to happen in his story, then why not do the basic thing when writing any story is to make a plan. There clearly should have been a dynamic between Bakugo and Edgeshot for this moment to feel impactful than it does. Horikoshi really dropped the ball with having his favorite character join Deku and Todoroki in the work study with Bakugo. He can’t go through a single arc that Bakugo is in without getting him involved with crap he has no real contribution to. I said in a previous post that Wonder boy has no real purpose/contribution in the main story line. His involvement with things like Deku, OFA and other side plots doesn’t amount to anything other than mindless yelling, guilt tripping, and just him treating everything as damn a competition. An egregious example would be the Endeavor Agency arc. Him acting ad the third wheel along with Deku and Todoroki doesn’t do any thing but give us more annoying moments with him. It’s one of the reasons why I dislike the dynamic between these three. I could on about why their dynamic is the most annoying and stupidest crap I’ve seen but that’s for another story. So back to the Endeavor Agency arc, He acts incredibly aggressive and inappropriate when he’s with the Todoroki family. He’s only in that arc so he can have power progression.
If Horikoshi wanted me to care about his dynamic with Edgeshot, why couldn’t he just have Bakugo do the work study with him instead of making a third wheel just because he’s afraid that his fans will get upset. Bakugo taking up on a work study with Edgeshot would have given the story a chance to do things that would have improve the final arc than it does. Let’s list them.
1. It gives a chance for Bakugo to develop as a character on his own without it being related to Deku
2. It could have helped painted Bakugo in a better light by having him feel guilty about Best Jeanist and make him regretful for his shitty attitude towards him during his internship
3. It would have given the creator an excuse to establish Edgeshot as a character and his relationship with Best Jeanist.
4. Edgeshot would give Bakugo some words of advice about not getting hung up over your past mistakes and focus more on improving yourself.
5. Edgeshot would have stated that he doesn’t blame Bakugo for what happened in Kamino; especially towards Jeanist
Second of all, what exactly is in vain here exactly? The only thing that I can think of that is in vain is his ego. Edgeshot I would think would have been better established to be more than just a support hero if he can do medical treatment on a battlefield. He had knowledge of this ability all this time and he chose to randomly choose it on this one kid who he barely knew.
Third of all, just because you excuse something by saying it’s a Shonen and you should expect it to happen doesn’t automatically excuse bad writing. Most shonen not only establish the world so the audience can get familiar with but they alsocreate rules on how stuff work like power scales for example.
Where in this story has it been established that Bakugo’s quirk can jump start damaged organs with the touch a tiny explosion? And how does that tiny explosion not do any damage to an organ that was or not have been stitched yet?
So basically what I’m saying is that Bakugo’s quirk somehow being able to jump start his heart was an asspull. And no, saying that you have spoken to a real doctor to get knowledge on the science of heart surgery doesn’t excuse your bad writing. It was already bad enough that a nobody character came in and turned into the world’s greatest surgeon incredibly late in the story, but the very thought that Wonder Boy’s quirk was able to jumpstart his heart without it damaging him is not only ridiculous but it ruins the stakes for this story. Why as a reader would I feel worried for a character if I know they’re going to be fine? Imagine if there’s a sequel to MHA and Bakugo as a Pro hero gets pummeled by a villain and his limbs were broken to the point where shouldn’t move. Would Horikoshi have Bakugo’s quirk somehow instantly heal his wombs and he’ll get back up like nothing just happen? How many fake out deaths is the creator’s pet going to have in this story? The amount of times characters have walked out of situations that should have killed them is not only laughable but proves why the story has no real stakes.

One of things that fans bring up when talking about Bakugo’s development is that Bakugo knows Deku well than anyone else far beyond his bullying. He’s supposedly feels sorry/guilty for Deku for not only bullying him but for the fact that he’s going through a downward spiral since the minute he was given OFA. While at the same time he hates himself for his behavior and realizes how he acts is not the traits of a hero and is probably why All Might didn’t choose him as his successor.
Let’s say Bakugo has always felt this way post Kamino, specifically after his rematch with Deku, what does he do to fix this issue, while knowing the problems Deku is facing ?
Jack s**t.
Bakugo’s actions and behavior barely differ than before. Most of his presence after Kamino is honestly pointless and shallow because he has no real contribution to the story. Him being shoved along with Deku and Shoto to do the internship with Endeavor doesn’t do any thing but give us more annoying moments with him. He acts incredibly aggressive and inappropriate when he’s with the Todoroki family. He’s only in that arc so he can have power progression. His involvement with OFA doesn’t amount to anything other than mindless yelling, guilt tripping and him being incredibly obnoxious. While at the same time he insults the deaths of the previous users and All Might doesn’t see this as an issue. Bakugo and Deku don’t even have any interactions that’s not about heroism, OFA or about them trying to surpass each other. Having these two interact about some general stuff would give them a chance to improve their relationship. I honestly wished there was a conversation between these two after Deku returns to UA where Deku talks about their relationship and how he truly felt.
But of course this doesn’t happen and we get the exact same slop as before and Bakugo continues to projects his anger towards Deku thinking that’s it’s his victims fault for him bullying him.
Granted he has been shown to have some regret for how he treated Deku but he barely does anything to fix behavior towards him and only waited at the last minute to give his half assed apology.
You can say that him training with Deku when he unlocked Blackwhip is proof that he is helping, but this doesn’t mean anything because Bakugo instantly gives up all because him constantly trying to injure Deku isn’t working. It’s only later in chapter 336 we see these two training together along with Class 1A, but it’s late in the story and what was given was too little too late. We’re just supposed to believe that they have been training and understanding each other together on a positive level off screen.
This series can go on all it wants about how their favorite wonder boy has changed as a character and how he now has the traits of a true hero. But nothing about what he does and how he interacts with others ever conveys that claim in a way that looks believable. The story has shown us that Bakugo’s villainous behavior makes things worse for himself and around other like Class 1A, and he never once felt guilt
Bakugo has never had a real reason and any saying for his actions towards his so called best friend and towards everyone in general. His reasonings for being an asshole and to why he hates Deku either doesn’t do anything or just make him look even more petty and also come across as if he is emotionally manipulating everyone around him.(EX. The moment when Deku tells Bakugo that he got his quirk from someone happened because Bakugo made him feel guilty about hiding his quirk to him during the Ground Battle Trial.)
I seen people say that Bakugo’s line “I’m sorry Izuku for everything” means that he’s always felt haunted by his constant guilt for what he did and the long term affects of it, but he’s also sorry that things ended up the way they did.
The thing is; Bakugo I would think would have the curtsy to put some effort into how he treats Deku before and after his apology.
I think it’s fair to say that Deku’s self destructive behavior is because of Bakugo’s bullying and him treating Deku like a failure. And I know this is also because of All Might’s heroism and how Deku viewed him, but if you remember in his rematch with Bakugo, he made it clear that while he was inspired by All Might it was Bakugo that he looked up to the most.
Instead of having it where he realizes that action are petty and taking accountability during Villain Hunt, he’s chooses to not only puts the blame his victim but also puts all the blame on Deku’s destructive behavior and his issues of self worth on All Might. Meanwhile he has the nerve to say he’s the only one that knows Deku more than everyone else and people like All Might, Endeavor, Aizawa, Uraraka, Iida and even Shoto can just piss off.
Bakugo is supposed to have changed as a better person; he supposedly now has a better understanding of Deku is now caring to him and yet he’s still acts the same as he did before and continues to antagonize others to satisfy his ego. Meanwhile fans continue to excuse this as a subversion of our expectations. Granted the way he treats everyone is not as awful as he was Pre- Kamino, but that still doesn’t excuse his behavior and how lazy his development is. And no, him telling a child not to look down on others otherwise you won’t recognize your own weakness doesn’t work because he himself can’t even take his own words to heart.
This is just the creator’s attempt at trying to paint his favorite character in a good light without doing anything with him to have him earn it. I can care very little about him feeling guilty about All Might’s retirement. I personally don’t think it’s Bakugo’s fault for his retirement; I blame him for starting the rescue mission and making things worse during the Forset Camp Training Arc. I probably would have cared about Bakugo’s dynamic with All Might if most of their interactions weren’t him being incredibly selfish and down right being a prick to his idol for no reason.

How a typical scenario with Bakugo and Class 1A would go in cannon
Note: I thought this scenario was kinda funny in my head because judging by how everyone acts with each and around Bakugo, something like this would happen in the main series. If Bakugo is going to constantly have toddler like tantrums and get physical with someone(Ex. Blowing up the dorm and a card game after getting a tie in a match with Deku/ Attacking Deku immediately after he congratulates Bakugo for getting his provisional license/ Throwing his sharp headgear at Deku causing him to bleed), then he would definitely do this. Anyway feel free to add your introspection. Normally Bakugo would have a hissy fit over something that is either petty, stupid or outrageous to fuel his inferiority complex so let’s say that he got mad for getting the second highest score on a test.
How this scene would play out is that class 1A would get their results of a test they took. Bakugo would get pissed because that he got the second highest score meanwhile Momo Yaoyorozu got the first highest. While Momo keeps her pride to herself, Bakugo would make a baseless claim the she is making fun of him. So Bakugo would proceed to attack Momo out of jealousy.
- Momo would be in a lot of pain from taking an explosion to the face
- Jiro, Kaminari, Mina, Sero, Tsuyu and Ida would get pissed and try to intervene but it probably won’t amount to anything
- Deku would probably try to intervene but Bakugo find an excuse to fight him
- Uraraka would direct her attention to Deku if he got attacked by Bakugo; ignoring Momo’s condition
- Mineta would make another perverted comment
- Todoroki wouldn’t do anything in this scenario(Good luck Todomomo fans)
- Sato and Tokoyami would just comment on how Bakugo’s attitude is ridiculous and not do anything else
- Kirishima would probably stand up against Bakugo while at the same time convince the others that his actions are reasonable
- Aoyama, Hagakure, Ojiro, Shouji and Koda would keep to themselves and not intervene
- Aizawa would harshly punish all of Class 1A and give Bakugo a light punishment
In layman’s terms, All hell would break loose.

Describe Bakugo’s development in short words
If you were to ask me how would I describe Bakugo’s development in short words, it would come across as being boring and predictable. Let’s start with the fact that despite being a secondary character, Bakugo has no real purpose/contribution in the main story line. His involvement with Deku and OFA doesn’t amount to anything other than mindless yelling, guilt tripping, and just him treating it as a competition to try and surpass Deku when he unlocks his other quirks. The only reason he’s involved in a lot of what’s going on is because of his popularity. He started gaining popularity when he won the Sports festival and because everyone like the stereotypical angry rival trope. He can be replaced by literally any other character and nothing would change.
It’s basically a pattern whenever Bakugo is involved with something.
- Bakugo will treat others beneath him and continue to call the extras.
- Whatever is going in the story if it’s a fight between the villains or something school related, he’ll treat it as a competition.
- He’ll either verbally attack Deku and everyone around them or get physical to get what he wants.
- Deku won’t see this as an issue and continue to gush over Bakugo about how he’s a good friend and the idea of him being the symbol of victory
-Anyone that calls out his horrible behavior will do a complete 180 and talk about how whatever he said either makes sense or to give some baseless excuse about how he changed
- Aizawa, All Might and or anyone in UA will make some claim about how his some kind of an inspiration for 1A and Bakugo is trying harder than everyone else(completely ignoring all of 1A’s accomplishments and improvements throughout their first year)
- After winning or coming out on top whatever Bakugo will take his win for granted and will act like it doesn’t mean anything while acting aggressive when someone compliments him
- What ever punishment or consequences he gets(not matter how fatal is) will be minor and the story will find to way to have him come out at top without any struggle
- The story will have characters feel bad, guilty for Bakugo for something so minuscule and or try to punish them in a similar manner like Bakugo (A recent example of the story punishing characters because of Bakugo’s actions is in the Card OVA. I didn’t bother watching it because I knew it was just a product plug for training cards but from what I viewed from other people’s discussions, the match between Deku and Bakugo ends with a tie. Apparently Bakugo threw another hissy fit and not only destroyed the card game but blew up the dorm with everyone inside. Instead of punishing Bakugo for destroying public property and potentially injuring his classmates, Aizawa decides to punish all of Class 1A and ban them from playing any other games in the dorm.)
I know everyone has their own interpretation on how they feel about Bakugo and that’s perfectly fine. I don’t have problem if you like him, but Bakugo is written as if everything he did or stood for never mattered. Izuku, Class 1A , UA and by extension Horikoshi, wants the audience to believe that all the positive aspects about his character somehow outweigh the negatives and we’re supposed to accept that Bakugo has fully grown while at the same time instantly forgiving him for being a spiteful and petty bully. No matter what happens to him, he’ll still come out on top as if what he went through wasn’t consequential or lethal. He’s constantly giving wins and random asspulls to favor him despite either doing the bare minimum of his supposed development or not doing anything at all. Bakugo in the eyes of others will always be seen as the true MVP and is the one that always has to win. He’s nothing but a pet under the care of his creator who will go out of his way to make every other character look bad and pathetic than they already are; including the main protagonist.

Is there an official timeline that explains where the movies take place in the main storyline? I can believe the first movie(Two Heroes) is canon cause they at least play a role in fleshing out All Might’s backstory. The other two have weird time placements that affect the main story. Now we’re supposed to believe that during the two weeks before the final arc, the heroes spent their time fighting another villain that’s introduced at the last minute with no build up. I’m also going to assume this new movie won’t bother to explain why Stars and Stripes didn’t offer any assistance or why AFO didn’t know about this new villain.

“Don’t let people’s compliments go to your head, and don’t let their criticisms go to your heart. The degree to which you do either of these things is the degree to which you’ll be ruled by what other people think of you.”
-Lysa TerKeurst
I found this quote online about how you shouldn’t let a compliment fuel your ego and not to let any form of criticism hurt you mentally. How well do you think Bakugo’s character development ties into this quote?

Ok be honest, when has there ever been a point in the series where Bakugo has been there for Deku on an emotional and or supportive level? I found this comment on Reddit and this person acts like if Bakugo has suffered more than anyone else and apparently it’s enough for him to be a supportive friend.
“Bakugo not only suffered far more than he deserves, he’s been very supportive to deku for a long time now, y’all acting like he should get a death sentence for bullying a kid”

How I would rewrite Bakugo’s death
(Spoiler Warning)
All right let’s beat this dead horse to the ground. I know that at the end of the day, it’s Horikoshi’s story and it’s his decision on how he wants his story to written, but I don’t think it’s really that hard to visually show how a character’s progression without story telling the audience.
After he gets injured by Shigaraki after his cluster fails, Bakugo comes up with a strategy to stall him enough for Deku to show up. Instead of this plan involving only himself, it includes everyone. The plan involves everyone launching their own full power at Shigaraki while Bakugo acts as a distraction with his quirk awakening. Best Jeanist would be in charge of holding him down enough so that the heroes can attack Shigaraki simultaneously.
Bakugo while distracting Shigaraki, he’s able to detonate his sweat he fires. While doing that, he is also doing what he can to protect the others. This moment can at least show that Bakugo has learned and is now willing to put others before him and work with them. After being attacked simultaneously, Shigaraki gets free from his restraints from and attempts to kill a hero that’s close to him. (It can be anyone in this situation) Bakugo then comes in a uses an explosion to propel Shigaraki in the air. He uses his new profound speed to fire explosions at Shigaraki. The Support students launch mini platforms from the UA fortress for Bakugo to jump on to for attack him. During this, Bakugo reflects on everything that he has done. He is not thinking about trying to surpass or wanting to keep up Izuku. The all might card scene can stay in this version of the story. He would also think about his parents one last time.
(Minor nitpick about his relationship with his parents.)
Currently in the final arc, we are given some small moments with Bakugo’s parents supposedly watching him and being proud of him I guess. This feels unearned because they have a very little presence with their son. Most of the scenes with them are just obnoxious yelling that does nothing for their character. Also it goes against Bakugo’s supposed development and makes it seem like he didn’t learn anything. Having Bakugo having a heartfelt moment with them before he goes off into the fight would have made their presence feel emotional. Bakugo owning up to his petty and aggressive behavior towards them and apologizing would’ve made his death a lot more painful for his parents. So despite shoving them in the recent chapters, it doesn’t make their moments impactful enough for me to care.
Bakugo’s final moments are him wondering if what he has done was enough to earn forgiveness from Izuku. His final attempt to attack Shigaraki is creating a huge explosion. After that, Shigaraki is critically injured but not enough for him to be injured. He is also regaining some control of his body. AFO can show some respect for Bakugo for being somewhat close to All Might’s strength. Shigaraki And then Deku finally comes in and fight Shigaraki. This moment would get a huge reaction outside of everyone at the UA fortress. All Might, Bakugo’s parents, some of Class 1A would hear about this.
This is when the story can go to two different scenarios.
Scenario 1:
Bakugo is severely injured where he is close to being dead and is taken away to seek medical attention. After that, he can be healed and recovered so go back into the fight.
Scenario 2:
Bakugo stays dead and becomes a permanent consequence/ stain for the pro heroes. No stupid resurrection this time. After learning about his death Deku freaks out a bit but calms down after hearing Bakugo’s plan. The Pro heroes would say the Bakugo’s sacrifice and contribution paid off which Shigaraki being critically injured(while slowly regenerating). Deku remains stern and slightly saddened about his friend’s death. Deku promises to not let Bakugo’s death go in vain.
Bonus:
If for some stupid reason if you desperately want your wonder boy to come back after just dying, for the love of god don’t make it convoluted and stupid.
- have a pro hero who is going to save him be someone the audience we care about
- Make sure that person stays dead after bringing back Bakugo
- Have whatever injury that killed Bakugo not be something that is impossible for someone to heal like it’s nothing
- Do nothing at let Bakugo’s stupid sweat restart his heart
- Have Kaminari come in a jumpstart Bakugo’s heart with his quirk.(Just coming up with a moment for Kaminari in this arc.)

When I hear hardcore Bakugo Stans try to defend their favorite wonderboy and try to justify his behavior, I’m insulted. Everything that could’ve helped redeem or at least humanize Bakugo like learning humility or finding out that there’s more to life than just winning is thrown out the window. The creator is clearly trying to paint his favorite character as some kind of saint but forgot to write him as being likable and or someone who is learning and taking accountability from theirs mistakes. According to the story, we’re supposed to automatically accept this development because some characters say so and because they paint it as not only a good thing but also something inspirational.
Fans like to say that during the Deku vs class 1A fight, that Bakugo was being genuine and was being speaking the truth about Deku situation. Maybe he was trying to be genuine with trying to not only apologize but to help him. But the fact that he starts off by shiting all over him with unnecessary insults and calling him an all might wannabe doesn’t help grow his supposed development. And of course Horikoshi paints this as a good by having Class 1A accept this behavior and paint him as being reasonable; while at same time Bakugo is giving his half ass apology.
What if Deku just found out that his own mother was killed by AFO and he starts having a mental breakdown and goes crazy(Similar to when he saw Bakugo’s corpse)? Is Bakugo gonna come in a shit on him for being a failure and continues to call him an All Might wannabe and somehow Deku will instantly calm down? Will Class 1A see this as a good thing and call Bakugo a saint who speaks the truth? Would All Might and Aizawa not have a problem with this and just say that Izuku is grateful to have him as a friend?

If Class 1A were to roast Bakugo, what would they say?
(A few ideas I came up with.)
Momo: In Class 1A, everyone is divided by two kinds. My kind of people and assholes. I’m going to assume you’re smart enough figure out which category you fall under.
Mineta: I may the shortest one in the class, but your credibility makes me feel Mount Lady in the locker room.
Deku: I don’t even have a problem with you in general, I’m just surprised that All Might didn’t turned you and your $10 haircut into change.
Kota: I never saw the point of controlling a Pomeranian because everyone else has it covered.
Jirou: On your school photos you look like a future furry and maybe with some cat ears people will take you seriously
