How a Pom runs things

SPEED: Slow af. This is definitely not a main blog and when combined with offline issues and anxiety, this isn’t where I end up at the end of the day 9 times out of 10. I’m still learning Aoi’s muse and working out details of my AU with @linksensed​, so it’s pretty slow going.

REPLIES: I usually fall back on about 2 paragraphs minimum, because I love to write and be descriptive. <3 I don’t expect anyone to match my length when I run away with things, tho XD

STARTERS: I’ll usually write them for partners because I’m usually the one with the most free time? Never mind it <3 I don’t do opens and starter calls right now, tho, because this blog is private.

INBOX: Always open! Even if this blog is currently private, I love memes and I still want to get a better handle on my muse for Aoi, so the inbox is always open for people to send (ooc) asks to me or her and help me get that handle I need/grow the AU, or just ask for details and the like. <3 At the moment, I’ll only accept IC based asks (your muse coming to mine) if you’re a partner I’ve approached personally.

SELECTIVITY: Private. It’s not that I don’t want Aoi to get out there, I do, but as mentioned I’m still trying to learn her muse and work out the finer points and details of the AU this blog is based in. I run things on a ‘I come to you for threads’ basis, which means if I haven’t personally come to ask you for a thread? I’m unfortunately not interested in interacting at the moment. Nothing on you and all on me trying to find my comfort zone.

WISHLIST: Eventually I want Aoi to have time with her brother. I want to see her have to face Spectre and Revolver again, and confront what happened to her in S1. I want her to make friends and spend time with the rest of Team Playmaker. I want her to meet with Ai again and work out the feelings of what he did in S3. Give me an Aoi realizing her shortcomings as Blue Girl. There’s so much to explore here? But above all else, friends, she needs them-

Canon Mun Questions!

6: What is the general opinion of your muse’s fandom aboutthem? Do you agree with it?

I see a lot of complaints Aoi got dealt the short end of the stick. That she lost too much, was the writer’s puppy to kick so to speak, that she didn’t do anything, and yet she’s ‘really strong’ and sometimes that her losses were ‘asspulls’ on the side of whoever beat her. I’m pretty sure consesus is just that Aoi’s ‘strong’ but never got a chance to show it.

Which I mean… I can understand being frustrated when your fave is thrown to the side like she seemed to be and like Vrains did to just about everyone not Yusaku and Ai honestly, but I don’t completely agree with consesus. Yes Aoi got the crappy end of the stick, I won’t deny that. She died legit every season and rarely won anything. But in the context of her character as a whole, to me, it made sense; Aoi didn’t belong on the front lines. After S1, Aoi didn’t belong as part of the group - She wanted her brother’s approval, and her connection to Miyu when she recounted her backstory several times before this with not even a hint of her despite Miyu being some big deal to her at 6 was shoehorned in for the sake of making her front lines. She shouldn’t have been there, lacked the strength to be there and the real motivation, and it resulted in an even more hardcore sidelining.

Aoi even said herself she’s not strong and got talked into thinking she was. She’s a teen dealing with depression and probably trauma from the S1 events who just wants to be helpful and make her big brother proud. She’s not some super strong goddess who didn’t deserve what she got. Maybe deserved less of it, yes, but nah - It was all in line for her character in the situations they put her in. She didn’t belong there, and how forced in she was showed. Sorry folks.

7: For movie or TV muses, what is your muse’s favorite scene? Why?Can you show a screenshot?

How she stood up to Ai in S3! As much as I don’t agree with where they took her character and personally write her as seriously canon divergent ending with the same kind of growth, this is actually something I keep in my portrayal: The showing Aoi’s grown so much from the days she tried to hide behind Blue Angel and actually faces her problems head on. She’s finally reached a point where she understands her strengths and weaknesses and wants to help, but she’s remaining restrained and questioning it - Why do we have to fight when we both suffered the same?

(Link) It’s amazing to see her staying grounded and focused instead of rushing in where she didn’t need to be and trying to talk out of fighting rather than just fighting, and even nicer to see that instead of covering for her pain, she’s letting it out and talking. I don’t have to agree with canon 100% for this to be a really nice sign of growth and be proud of her for how she held her ground. It’s just too bad they took it all back and the remainder of her lines until 120 are largely just ‘Big brother…’ and doing absolutely nothing by his side when even he went out and fought in her name in the last two seasons.

8: For movie or TV muses, what is a scene with your muse thatyou hate? Why? Can you show a screenshot?

I hate a lot of what they did with her in S2, but off the top of my head, I think I’ll have to say for this the scene with Aqua asking her to partner up while Emma’s dueling Kengo. Aoi is straight out telling Aqua “I’m not strong”. She’s come to realize after losing to Spectre that she’s really not strong at all and she needs to grow and work on herself. She tells Aqua this at least twice and is very blunt about her shortcomings and weaknesses… And Aqua literally just counters by telling her how Miyu was tortured, how Miyu looked up to her, how Miyu thinks she’s strong - She continues to harp on “YES YOU ARE!” until Aoi agrees to partner with her in a conversation that takes maybe an hour at most. That’s… No? Things don’t work like that? From someone who has self-esteem issues on top of anxiety and depression and other things, ‘yes you are, you should believe me’ isn’t going to change someone’s mind that fast. The entire scene is so forced for the sake of making Aoi front lines when she didn’t have to be, and it’s ridiculous and I hate it.

(Link) Yeah I dunno about you, but if I hadn’t seen someone in ten years and literally recently admitted to not even thinking of them, telling me how they looked up to me and how strong I am isn’t going to make me think I’m strong and rush out to save someone who hasn’t even been on my mind for TEN YEARS. Not the way they claim Aoi did after this. This is exactly where my portrayal of Aoi turns divergent and helps out in her own way, with the skills she knows for sure she has, and not drop the plotline she’s had right along (Make Akira proud of her) in favor of one shoehorned in.

13: What canon character do you really wish your muse couldinteract more with?

Honestly? I wish she had more time with Yusaku (Not Playmaker, just Yusaku), Takeru, Kusanagi… Like it’s implied after her loss to Ai in S3 she already knows Takeru is Soulburner and Kusanagi is Unnamed. While Kusanagi might’ve been obvious from his avatar… How? Was there some group meeting we didn’t get to see? Like??? Gimmie Aoi making actual friends with actual time spent together, plz- XD

I’d also like to see her spend some time with Ryoken someday. I’m sure she’s got a lot of feelings she needs to release about Hanoi using her as a pawn in S1 and then her loss to Spectre, and they’re right there on multiple occasions. Talk???

I really want to see her interact with Miyu more, though. She admits to having not really thought of her for ten years to Emma. I wanna see them talk about that and repair their lost friendship and Aoi finally get out her emotions on that, too. Build up a real friendship again, now that they’re older and can talk about and understand things like their emotions on what happened and such.

Aqua lighted down in the barren plain of Link Vrains. Earth had been here, she could tell. His simple small stacked stones may look like some passerby got bored and made some little towers before moving on, but for her, she could spot his craftsmanship easily. After all, despite looking simply stacked they were actually melded and sturdy. Well, it only seemed right that she should add onto his work. This was something the two of them whenever they were outside of World Two. Finding the empty spaces of the network and bringing a little character to them.

Focusing, Aqua sprouted a small rock spring in a random location. An elegant piece, like a fountain one would find in a garden. This is all she would do, for now, it would be best to let the data around it slowly change with the small trickle of water it provided. Not to mention interesting! Link Vrains could emulate life pretty well, but Aqua marked this spot in her databanks for later. She’d come back to it to check on it, and maybe even add some new things.

Although she was startled by the sound– there hadn’t been anyone here just a moment ago, but perhaps she got too invested in the earth ignis’s work! She prepared to blink to another location–

The small additions had been enough for Blue Maiden to catch onto, seeking one out every time she had a chance to log on. Small but beautiful, the little fountains and stacks of stones were captivating, carrying a beauty she rarely found offline, never mind on, and each one found never failed to put a smile on her lips. Like a little piece of serenity, each and every one of them...

So caught up in seeking them out, she’d started keeping track of where each one had sprung up, checking them first and foremost to make sure nobody had disturbed them before moving on... But in this case, she’d arrived just in time to watch one come to life - A small, pretty spring suited for a garden, tucked away in a corner of the network she normally wouldn’t have thought to walk. Her work often had her closer to Central Station, but this was worth the trip on her free time-

And so was the flash of blue that caught her gaze next, eyes widening as the duelist stepped out from behind a nearby rock. It couldn’t have been... Hadn’t she - Could it really be- “Aqua?” Agh, why did her voice sound so small?! For that matter, why couldn’t she make herself take another step? If it really was Aqua, everything in her wanted to get closer-!

But... What if it wasn’t, too?

“Is that... You?”

Admittedly, she hadn’t, though perhaps Yusaku’d be able to tell that with the confused blink she’d send his way for all of half a second. Lost in her thoughts, she hadn’t been paying attention to anything around her, just letting herself run on autopilot… But then, she always wasn’t sure why she was all that surprised, either; wasn’t he always there?

“I thought lunch out would be a nice change of pace,” Aoi offered, the faintest of smiles pulling at her lips. “I see you had the same idea. Was it the daily special?” That was why she’d come - Er… She thought, anyway. Never failed to be good!

Daily special…? Yusaku couldn’t keep himself from blinking at Aoi’s comment before pulling his chin off its comfortable spot resting on his palm just to glance at Cafe Nagi’s menu. Had Kusanagi really started offering daily specials again? Better yet, did people actually keep up with them?

“Not really. I guess I sort of stopped paying attention to how often the menu here changes.” Yusaku just seemed to eat whatever Kusanagi felt like giving him, which probably wasn’t the healthiest diet ever, but he always seemed to stay full. 

“I take it your brother must be busy again today, huh?”

There were days Aoi thought he made the menu with how often he seemed to be there, but that was a thought she’d keep to herself, too. Then again, that begged the question... Did he ever eat anything aside from hot dogs and coffee? And if so, what? She’d never seen him anywhere but school and the truck, or on her walk to school-

At his question, however, she could feel her smile falter. Admittedly, that’d been the reason she’d chosen to leave the house for the afternoon; with Akira having to work, any hopes she’d had for a family lunch had been thrown right out the window. And when she could barely cook for herself... Better to get something tasty out than risk burning it at home. “I’m afraid so. He’s been keeping track of things closer than ever... I’m sure when things relax, so will his workload.” Hopefully. It’d been a while since Akira had been able to have lunch at home...

“And you? Is there much going on here with you today?”

Walking on Stars

Photographer Lee Eunyeol constructed elaborate light installations that appear as if the night sky switched positions with the ground, flipping it upside down. It is based around the idea of inverting the night sky. The glowing stars and planets are now nestled inside tall grass and deep between earthen cracks. The results are incredibly unique and thoroughly surreal. The series titled Starry Night generates a mysterious and magical landscape that juxtaposes day with night.

Character Solidifying!

10. Is your character street-smart, book-smart, intelligent, intellectual, slow-witted? 

Book-smart, for sure, with a dash of street-smart. She’s lived pretty much on the streets with Akira after the loss of their parents, yet even a 6 year old can pick up on what to do and what not to do out there, even if it was remarkably little learned due to Akira keeping her safe and out of danger as much as humanly possible. Instead she’s a remarkably good student and ranks near the top of her class on the regular, paying attention and attending classes unless something forces her to skip (her coma and Akira keeping her home in S1, Akira’s in S3...).

Aoi on her own is pretty smart, even if she has her moments of forgetting that and butting in where she shouldn’t, or spacing out what to do entirely. It just tends to show more the more she reflects on herself, until you get the logical, straightforward, quick-thinking girl she becomes by the time she takes on Blue Maiden’s avatar.

3. Brothers, sisters? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings?

She has one sibling: An older step-brother, Akira! She’ll be the first to tell you she absolutely loves her big brother; he’s done so much for her, taking care of her and keeping her safe after the loss of their parents, that to Aoi, the term ‘Step-sibling’ doesn’t apply. He’s her brother, regardless of blood, and that’s never going to change, no matter what anyone says or what happens. She’s going to fight for and protect him just as much as he has her.

On the flip side, she won’t tell you she hates how much he works. Aoi understands his job at SOL is 100% nescesary and she loves he’s doing big things there, and that he’s doing it for her and their family on top of the network itself, especially post-canon. But in the process of trying to take care of her and keep them fed and sheltered, he had less time to spend with her - And Aoi slowly grew to hate that. She didn’t want him to think of her as a child he had t protect so fiercely anymore - She wanted his approval, to see she’d grown up an could stand on her own two feet! She wanted his attention for more than a few minutes a day!

But that’s where the catch lies: She understands. Doesn’t mean she likes it, but it’s an evil she has to deal with until she gets her own job there/post-canon.

6. Did they feel rejection or affection as a child?

Lots of rejection, unfortunately. Aoi was always the ‘odd duck out’ of sorts, no matter what she tried, and it frequently led to her being shunned and ignored. She was the new kid, the quiet one, why didn’t she talk much, why was she so shy, where did she come from... They were answers she couldn’t really give as a child, and thanks to this, she was largely rejected by her peers. She got a lot of affection from Akira, but even that came mixed with tinges of rejection; the more he worked to put and then keep a roof over their head and food on the table, the less time they had to spend together, and while she’s never once doubted her brother and his love, she couldn’t help but feel left out and hurt, too.

Even Miyu ended up being a source of rejection, though not by Miyu herself. Affection was a solid at that point, but once she was forcibly pulled from her life... Aoi’s only just now beginning to feel the real affection and acception she’s always craved at 16, though she’s had moments of it before. It’s just been weighed down by rejection she couldn’t really fight as a child.

7. What was the economic status of their family?

Not really high-class and rich, but fairly close to it. She lives in a penthouse, gets first access to a lot of SOL tech (if allowed, and doubly so after getting a job there herself), her brother is head of security... She’s not really rich, but fairly close to high class.

22. Who are their friends? Lovers? ‘Type’ or ‘ideal’ partner?

This depends on when you’re asking this of her, but by post-canon, she counts Kusanagi, Miyu, and Yusaku as friends offline, and Soulburner is added to that online, if only because she doesn’t really know Takeru and hasn’t taken the time to try just yet. She’d also include Aqua as a friend, even if she’s no longer with them, much to Aoi’s heartbreak. Naoki is... Well... It depends on the day? Like... 4 days a month maybe-

As for lovers, it’s not really anything that’s crossed her mind? She has some feelings for Yusaku/Playmaker, but considering she doesn’t really understand them, they’ve gone totally brushed under the rug for the time being. Really if she starts seeing anyone, she just wants someone who’s going to listen to her, be willing to be there for her, able to put up with her work scheddule/popularity inside Link VRAINS, and above all else, love her. She’s not entirely sure what she needs in a relationship other than that - It’s.. Never really something she thinks of?

43. Does your character have any secrets? If so, are they holding them back?

The biggest one would probably be that she’s Blue Angel, Blue Girl, and Blue Maiden, which she’s not even disclosed to SOL on getting her job there. Keeping Angel a secret was solely because Angel was an escape; when the world felt against her, Blue Angel was a mask Aoi could put on to cover for her depression, giving her a few hours to bask in the attention and cheer of her fans while trying to get Akira’s attention and show him she’d grown up. Girl was meant to be an undercover avatar to use while she was working with Ghost Girl that also doubled as Aoi’s look into herself in hopes of growing.

Maiden, on the other hand, is her current avatar, inspired by her own strength, growth, and Aqua’s influence, and to Aoi, telling anyone she’s the face behind one of the heroes of Link VRAINS puts not only all of that at risk, but also risks those she loves. Anyone wanting to get at her would just have to go for her offline or those she’s trying to protect... No thanks. She’s good keeping that a secret, usuing a more generic, slightly knockoff version of Maiden (and Girl, prior to switching to Maiden) whenever she needs to log in for work.

Aoi also keeps smaller things like her depression and dislike of how much Akira works a secret, though none of these she really feels hold her back in any form - And she’d be right, honestly. Hiding her depression isn’t holding her back, though it does hurt her in the long run for not talking about it, and so long as peace reigns, logging in as Maiden largely just means keeping an eye on things and enjoying herself. Perhaps it might someday, but for now... Not really-
