I will never get over how Brad and Janet are visually separated from people who they view as weird or different in the beginning of the movie (the motorcyclists literally driving past them in the darkness). And by the end they both learned more about their sexuality and gender but the society they have to return to could never truly accept them so they have now become "the other". And the only person who could have understood them was killed in front of them. They touched the light they were searching for, for one brief moment (Frank who is literally bathed in light during I’m going home) but now they have to live in darkness.
