I'm not morally disappointed in Watcher or anything, they run a small company and want to be able to guarantee their employees wages. That's reasonable, admirable even.

But they simply do not have the content catalogue or fan base for this.

Ghost Files and Puppet History are the only Watcher shows unique enough to be a selling point, and the service is more expensive than Dropout, which is famously high quality and creates high volumes of unique and diverse content.

Watcher is simply too early in its development to do this.

One of the things that upset me about Watcher "pay your artists" is that they have series covering others work, like Too Many Spirits and Are You Scared, and I really doubt that they paid the author of Smile Dog to use their story and I'm pretty sure most were free submissions at the time, which is ironic since they might not be able to afford the new subscription
