I think these two are prime examples of change being possible. Enji even said he doesn't want forgiveness, he is changing to fix his wrong. His kids and wife will decide if they want to forgive him.

To me the creator is showing the humanity within his characters and thats why I ended up enjoying the show after the school festival arc.
