I need to go to bed like I NEED to get back to a reasonable sleep schedule so I’m just gonna touch on this briefly but the idea of Claudia (in that art by Michael Zhang for TV Guide, shared with added context by @killejoie) as “the guide” is SOOOOO INSANE. I know that the reference painting is based off of Dante’s divine comedy and not the Aeniad itself. And I know “the guide” referenced in the original painting is the poet Virgil and not the Cumaean Sibyl like in the Aeniad. AND I know the positioning probably frames Claudia more as “the author” than the guide. So everything I’m about to say is extremely tangential almost to the point of irrelevance (although still applies even if she is “the author”), but it popped into my head and now I can’t get it out. The Cumaean sibyl was a girl-woman prophetess whose entire conception revolved around giving meaning to other people’s lives and yet not being allowed any of her own, not unlike how Claudia and her diaries are being used by the characters and the narrative. In history, literature, and mythology, the sibyl (and her counterparts like the oracle of Delphi) is essentially a tool for the exposition of fate and truth. I’m literally shaking from wanting so badly to go into more detail but I don’t even know where to start and I NEEEEEEED to go to bed so if you want to know more before I ever get this posted then look up the sibyl of Cumae or Cumaean sibyl in history, mythology, and literature, and pay attention to how she is used by people and by narratives but is almost never viewed as her own person. Just as the sibyl is used by others to shape their understanding of the world, so are Claudia’s diaries dissected to shape others’ understanding of past and present. “It was never about me.”

We have seen the entirety of the relationship between Louis and Armand through teasers. Same could be said for all the relationships actually. I could laugh but I'm actually baffled by the sheer incompetence of amc. This is the first time in a long time I'm deep in fandom for a single show and I do not remember networks spoiling so much footage ahead of a new season. You seem to follow a lot of shows. Was Black Sails or any other show you are following that heavy-handed between seasons? Like am I too old to be annoyed? 😔😂

you seem to follow a lot of shows is not wrong but i feel like i need to go out and get new hobbies immediately 😭 still even though i do actually watch a lot of tv i rarely keep up with promotional material and as far as i remember never to the extent i've been keeping up with this show, so i really don't know!

but, while i think the fact that i usually don't mind being spoiled might contribute to this, i don't really share this feeling of having seen the whole season already! the people in charge of amc marketing are absolutely without a doubt a bunch of dickheads, but so far i'm fairly happy with what they're doing with the trailers and teasers.

i answered a similar message very recently so i don't want to just make the whole argument again, but i really feel like there's so so much we don't know that, if anything, these seemingly spoilery trailers feel to me like they're trying to lull us into a(n unwarranted!) feeling of security, distracting us from all the questions that aren't even being addressed. and there's a lot of things that you or i might guess or infer based on the books, but i bet you that your average casual reader has absolutely no idea about, say, armand's jealousy over claudia, or the possibility of something even remotely romantic happening or having happened between armand and daniel.

so yeah, the nature of fandom is people will spend days on tumblr dot gov doing detective work over every single frame, and it's very easy to think all the conjectures and analyzes and whatnot amount to a full picture, but i think what we actually know is still very little!
