Wilhelmina Slater Quotes a selection of quotes from Vanessa Williams Character in Ugly Betty.
I have flower problems, catering problems, and [______] wants something called a Shania Twain to perform at our reception.
Story as old as time.
We're not even meeting now!
Here's to the bundle of... what's the expression? Joy?
Taste is having the courage of your own convictions.
No, it's what I say it is.
If he loved me he would do what I want - not this.
There are trends to be set, dreams to be trampled!
I'm sensing a personal life here. Stop it, immediately. I need your giant head in the game.
She said 'no.' At least I think she said 'no.' She opened her mouth, and a cloud of dust came out.
My god [_____] have some self respect!
Oh how humiliating.. my closest friends are going to be there tonight.. can you imagine how happy they'll be?
You think the hat is too much for prison?
I want to apologise for my behaviour. I always blackmail people when I'm nervous. It's my go to.
Birthdays are the gateway to Secret Santas and Casual Fridays
If I had known this is how the system works I'd have tried to kill more often!
that is the absolute cruellest thing I have ever seen. Someone is getting a raise.
What? I'm hellaciously upset. Shh! Purge this from memory.
The fashion equivalent of canned ravioli!
Poor people are so cheap...
It's hideous, like driving through Ohio.

031, in front of a suspicious pool of blood in an empty parking lot.
Tumblr media
How she loathed stakeouts. Nothing interesting ever happened on them, no matter the time zone, planet or galaxy she found herself in. This one, had been no different so far. For two hours now she had been holed up behind the wheel of a black '69 Camaro, ( which was far too conspicuous a car for these sorts of things, but who was she without her flair for the dramatic? ) a packet of barely eaten crisps tossed unceremoniously out the window before she reached over to the empty seat beside her, nimble fingers latching around the stem of a whiskey bottle.
Strictly speaking, the car hadn't been her first choice. Not really. It just so happened that the man who had rented it had happened to leave the key in the ignition when he'd popped into the store to finish signing the paperwork, and she had merely seized the opportunity fate had presented her. River supposed it was a small mercy that she'd found a car at all. Back in her Manhattan Detective days stakeouts had entailed camping out under a lamppost until someone's dishevelled husband or wife appeared in the window of the third floor apartment above her. She was halfway through prising the bottle cap off with her teeth when the gunshot went off. It was unlike anything she would have expected to hear in a place like this. More of a laser blast than an actual shot, but even if it hadn't have been, her interest had been piqued.
Cursing, River tossed the bottle back onto the empty seat, shoved the car door open and took off into the darkness in the general direction of where that sound had come from. It was a moment before she saw anything, weaving through the deserted car-park, hand closed around the grip of own gun at all times, until her eyes were met with a very interesting sight indeed. There, by the edge of the car-park, beside a couple of rusted skips, was a woman, standing over a pool of strange, shimmering liquid that shone eerily under the moonlight. Very suspicious indeed. As she edged forwards into the light it became apparent to her that the pool of liquid was in fact blood. A few litres worth, if she was right, and definitely extraterrestrial. River arched a brow. Perhaps she had been wrong after all. Interesting things do happen on stakeouts.
. ❝ Let me guess. This isn't what it looks like. ❞

❝ I'd hold off on celebrating if I were you Doctor. ❞ For once, she hadn't gone looking for trouble, and yet trouble had found her nevertheless in the form of a big blue box and a familiar face. The only thing that hadn't changed, was her reaction to this situation. No painful tug at her heartstrings at the knowledge that the Doctor, once again, didn't know who she was these days they all didn't recognise her, regardless of the incarnation. It was oddly freeing in a sense. If the circumstances weren't so dire, perhaps she would have taken a moment longer to dwell on that strange discovery. But time was of essence. ( Wasn't it always? ) River cleared her throat, flashing him a grim smile. ❝ It's not over yet. Not by a long shot. ❞

She deliberated for a moment, hand hovering over a switch.  ❝ We should keep it simple. The equipment is ancient, who knows how much time we'll have. Tell them we're in the console room and to head up here to us ...❞ She paused, lips pursed. If the creature was intelligent, it would soon learn there were two other people onboard, fresh victims for the chase.  ❝ .. you'd better let them know we're not alone on this ship either. ❞
Tumblr media
Her attention turned back to the console, flicking the switch before she stepped back expectantly. Nothing happened. A frustrated sigh escaped her in response. ❝ It's completely dead, needs a jump-start. Let me know when you're done with the comms, i'm going to need a hand. ❞

he took the offered hand and got himself fully righted again before following her lead down the rest of the narrow passageway and through the doorway, ears peeled for any signs of their invisible pursuers. sue a guy for being paranoid after that, he’d rather not go by way of invisible alien. not the note he wanted to end on, y’know? he didn’t really want river to get stuck with having to explain it to the others, either.
watching as she worked her magic on the control panel, he hovers to the side trying to figure out just what part would be used for sending out any kind of signal or call. not that there would be a big flashing sign or anything, but he could hope.
“right, okay,” he nods, zeroing in on what looked promising, “how much do we want to cram into a message? just in case they can’t respond or something? locating them seems like the most important thing, but i feel like we should get a warning in about the… whatever that was.”

❝ How witty. ❞ She retorted in a tone that suggested it was anything but. ❝ No really. Who was it that said, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence? Clearly they've never met you. ❞  Next time, she was definitely getting herself a new associate for this side of town. Preferably someone who didn't speak. On the whole, she found everyone to be at least seventy-five percent more tolerable when they weren't prattling incessantly in her ear about things she didn't care about. Or committing the worst sin of all, disagreeing with her.
❝ Oh relax, I'm sure you've put that coat through far worse than this .. ❞ She didn't immediately answer the question, too intent on peering through the grate below her in an effort to work out just where they were. If she squinted, she could just about make out a table directly under the grate, and what looked to be a champagne tower. perched on top. Alright. So that was the main hall. So they were close at least. ❝ The study should be right up ahead, to the right. We can drop down right in front the safe. Simple ... You know, I don't know why we didn't think of this sooner. ❞

' yer sterling judgment of me good character is absolutely bracing, luv. ' his eyes remain resolutely fixed on the hallway as she climbs, keeping lookout for incoming guards; paranoia insists on linking every small noise from above to the faint echo of footsteps coming their way, the murmur of distant voices.
but there's nothing and no one ( yet ) and it's only once he's thrown a glare up at her disappearing, near-deadly heel that it occurs that he'll be the one following behind, in every sense of the word. brilliant.
he hauls himself up next, worming his way into the duct on his belly with a flurry of muffled curses before pushing up onto elbows and knees, pinning his gaze intently on the floor as he scrambles to catch up. awkward, and cramped, with dust tickling his nose and a partner who talks like she's playing man from UNCLE to his one-man monty python — this is turning out to be a real bastard of a gig.
could've been worse, though: she could've been BORING.
' you say the sweetest things. ' if his sarcasm were any weightier, it would drop them through the metal flooring like stones. although it doesn't sound like that would take much as it is. ( crawl faster, con job. ) ' i mean, you makin' me crawl through sodding air vents in me good coat doesn't mean you 'ave t'give me a bigger portion of your cut, but if you insist ... speakin' of, where the christ are these s'posed to be takin' us? '

“there’s that biting sense of humor that i always adored.”
She rolled her eyes, a sigh of exasperation escaping her. ❝ I suppose you just bring out that side of me darling. ❞ She leaned over to press a quick kiss to her wife's lips. ❝ How was your day? ❞
