“Women want to be loved like roses. They spend hours perfecting their eyebrows and toes and inventing irresistible curls that fall by accident down the back of their necks from otherwise austere hair-dos. They want their lover to remember the way they held a glass. They want to haunt.”
― Eve Babitz

“I knew I’d follow him anywhere. When my sister used to talk about being in love, she said it felt like someone wrapping you inside of them. And that’s what I felt like now, like slowly I was being wrapped inside of him, inside his eyes, inside his voice, inside the way he talked about things.”

"men have called me mad; but the question is not yet settled, whether madness is or is not the loftiest intelligence– whether much that is glorious– whether all that is profound– does not spring from disease of thought– from moods of mind exalted at the expense of the general intellect".

A husband and wife decided they needed to use "code" to indicate that they wanted to have sex without letting their children in on it. They decided on the word Typewriter. One day the husband told his five year old daughter, "Go tell your mommy that daddy needs to type a letter". The child told her mother what her dad said, and her mom responded, "Tell your daddy that he can't type a letter right now cause there is a red ribbon in the typewriter." The child went back to tell her father what mommy said. A few days later the mom told the daughter, "Tell daddy that he can type that letter now." The child told her father, returned to her mother and announced, "Daddy said never mind with the typewriter, he already wrote the letter by hand."

“There is no fear for one whose mind is not filled with desires.” ~ The Buddha (The Dhammapada, verse 39)
This quote is a reminder that our fears are often rooted in our desires. When we want something, we are afraid of not getting it. When we have something, we are afraid of losing it.
The Buddha is not saying that we should not have any desires. He is simply saying that we should not be attached to our desires. When we are attached to our desires, we are more likely to suffer when we do not get what we want or when we lose what we have.
When our minds are not filled with desires, we are free from fear. We are able to accept things as they are and to live in the present moment.

"For what is Mysticism? It is not the attempt to draw near to God, not by rites or ceremonies, but by inward disposition? Is it not merely a hard word for 'The Kingdom of Heaven is within'? Heaven is neither a place nor a time." ~ Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale's quote is a beautiful and insightful definition of mysticism.
Nightingale is saying that mysticism is not about external practices or rituals. It is about an inward disposition, a state of being. It is about opening ourselves to the divine presence that is within us all.
Nightingale is also saying that mysticism is not about going to some other place or time. It is about experiencing heaven here and now. Heaven is not a physical place. It is a state of consciousness. When we are open to the divine presence within us, we are experiencing heaven
