I know here on tumblr.org many of you are not that into the sportsball, but I know you love righteous drama and pettiness, and oof, do we have some for you over in football land.

So Hungary, as you may've heard, has put out some anti-LGBT legislation that would ban the depiction or promotion of homosexuality to people under 18. It's not quite law yet but it's just got to get through their president Viktor Orban who is, unfortunately, a shit.

Meanwhile, football, no the other kind of football- the one with the round ball, is currently having a big European tournament. Euro 2020. Yeah, they didn't rename it. Doesn't matter. Germany were due to play Hungary last night in Munich and they asked the governing body of the tournament for permission to light up the stadium in a rainbow. Like this:

But they said no. Specifically, they said no while dressed in a rainbow pfp and claiming that the rainbow isn't a political symbol:

And Germany, bless them, looked at that and said, ooh bitch it's on now.

I'm honestly so ashamed rn? Fuck them. It's been like this forever - literally, ever since I've know what politics is - and it's getting worse every single say. if there is an article in english about the situation i cant find it right now so i'll attempt to sum it up

basically our pseudo fascist government granted themselves emergency powers at the beginning of the pandemic and among other things they have been using it to slowly take away thw lgbt community's rights and freedom. trans people can no longer change their name and gender marker and gay couples can no longer adopt children

and most recently (last night actually) a law that is supposed to protect against child predators was changed so that "sex education in schools cannot promote the changing of one's sex or homosexuality" on top of that sex education programs can only be done by the school or a database of organizations maintained by the government. the breaking of these rules (aka telling kids its okay to be trans) would get both the organizer AND the principal of the school into major trouble (think jail)

additionally children under 18 cannot be shown advertisements or educational content containing homosexuality or transgender "propaganda" these materials MUST be marked 18+

40% of all hungarian lgbt individuals have admitted to suicidal ideation, with 30% percent admitting to attempting it. our government is framing this as the protection of the children but what it will actually do is kill even more lgbt kids.

im incredibly angry so i'm sorry if this is not well phrased but this needs to stop because the path we're heading down is gonna end really fucking bad for the hungarian lgbt+ community

How do you think Asparagus Jr and Jellylorum met?

I have actually been thinking about this recently.

I have been considering why Gus and Gus jr would have the same name and i know that a lot of times if you have a very old cat you'll adopt a young one as like a successor/help you deal with the eventual grief.

I think that the theater that Gus lives at adopted a new kitten when he started getting old and named him Asparagus Junior and Gus took him on as an apprentice. Jellylorum met him when she came to visit her father and was quite taken with the very proper and charming young gentleman. Gus was very happy when they started dating. The theater, when they aren't posting about upcoming events, post about Old Gus chaperoning or Gus Jr. and Jelly being cute lovebirds.

There is one pic of the two playing on the balcony set for a production of Romeo and Juliet and touching noses that the Theater Manager added to the Production Hall of Fame, which is a wall covered in photos of the most successful plays and celebrities who have acted there.
