Cave Hill: Best Walk in Belfast
If you’re planning a trip to Belfast, it’s great to know the best walks around, so you can spend some time exploring the outdoors and take in some great views.
Cave Hill Trail is a must see destination in Ireland and the photographs speak for themselves, but if you want to experience the place in full, you should definitely make your way down for the day.
While you’re walking around and taking in some amazing scenery, you’ll need a place to stay after your long day.
You can rest assured that you won’t need to look fat before you find some beautiful and unique serviced apartments in Belfast which will be an experience in themselves.
Apart from this, there’s some great places to eat in Belfast and you can find some recommendations on a Tik Tok account as an Airbnb owner takes you through some great finds.
But firstly, let’s take you through this great walk in Belfast.
Video Player00:0000:34
Cave Hill Trail
If you love a good hike rewarded with beautiful scenery, you’ll definitely enjoy Cave hill. Just 10 minutes outside of the centre you’ll find this 370 metre climb.
Resembling the face of a sleeping giant, the hill has some historical associations and has even been the inspiration behind the famous Gulliver’s travels tale-you won’t want to miss this.
The route is a little challenging with some unsurfaced paths, which is great for those who like the feeling of exploring away from what feels like your typical park walk.
There is an easy route to take if you don’t feel like climbing and just want to have a simple walk.
You’ll not only see some great panoramic views at the top of the hill but you’ll get to see some wildlife (so make sure to bring a camera, or your phone).
If you love some history, you’ll be glad to hear there are archaeological sites you can explore too.
To see a video showing off Cave hill you can find it here, where owner of Central Belfast Apartments takes you through the breath taking trail.
Key Points of the Walk
You’ll notice the castle as soon as you arrive, which is a great spot for some photos and you can grab a tea/coffee here before your walk (you’ll see a coffee truck).
You can start climbing up the path on the left and if you want to take the woodland tail, turn right at the next turn you come towards.
This will take you on a nature walk through the trees where you’ll also find some seating areas if you want to take a short break or simply admire the views.
You’ll be able to see Belfast city and Lough from here.
Next up is Devil’s Punchbowland you’ll find the very first cave here. To keep climbing up (which leads to even greater views) then keep to the right of the cave.
Turning left onto the cliff top keep walking towards McArts Fort, but remember to take some breaks to admire the beautiful scenery!
It’s always a great idea to bring a small picnic and a blanket and sit in town to take in the breathtaking views, and if you’re ready to go you can climb the steps down to the main castle drive.
The views aren’t over just yet as you’ll be surprised by a beautiful waterfall as you continue Cavehill trail and turn left.
This takes you to the Upper Cavehill Road entrance, re-enter the site using the entrance on the left and follow the path into the woodland.
Now that you have a good idea on what to do while you’re visiting Belfast, you can also check out some places to eat at Central Belfast Apartments Tik Tok.
With your trip planned, all you need now is to book a nice holiday apartment which you can find on our site where there are plenty of options for you to choose from.

You may have seen some cool funky Airbnb’s and booked a stay simply because of how different it looks.
People are searching for experiences nowadays more than ever and so there’s endless possibilities when it comes to designing your Airbnb.
Below are some simple tips that will help you run a successful Airbnb.
Consider an Airbnb Management Company
You no longer need to stress about everything when it comes down to setting up a new business.
There are Airbnb management specialists in Belfast who can get you listings, manage your bookings and offer full management of your Airbnb.
You can leave it in the hands of experienced serviced accommodation providers and be sure your business is in great hands.

Have Good Quality Images
Convincing people into choosing your Airbnb is what it’s all about, and you won’t go very far with bad quality images.
This will only make you appear as though you don’t care about making the interior look as best as possible, and therefore you need great quality images.
Creating a beautiful interior is one thing but being able to showcase that online to customers is another- you need both to find customers.
Investing in a good camera or asking a photographer to come in and take some shots will be useful to you and remember-you can use these images forever.
Be willing to Invest
Buying a property obviously comes with investing and you need to be able to see the bigger picture and end result when doing so.
Knowing that you’ll put money in but be able to get it back is key and with dedication, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to.
A Complete Airbnb Profile
Once everything is good to go, it’s time to set up your Airbnb profile. Make sure you’re including all of the relevant information like the amenities you have, if there is a private bathroom in the room or if you’re offering an entire apartment.
There are so many details that people look for when browsing for a place to stay, some of which are basics they scan through and if something is missing, your Airbnb can simply be skipped.
Include as much information as you can, without overloading the page and make sure to add a personal and friendly touch-people love that.

Best Marketing Strategies For Serviced Accommodation
Starting your Airbnb management journey can be a bit scary, especially if it's your first time however; chances are it will be the best choice you’ll make. What’s better than a constant flow of income, generated from something you’ve created?
With everything on your shoulders, things can become more difficult to manage and that’s what serviced accommodation management experts are here for.
Getting guidance from people with real experience will save you from making mistakes, which is something you can’t afford to do at the beginning of your journey. Making clients' Airbnb dreams come true since 2016, central Belfast apartments are the best at managing serviced apartments.
Below you’ll find some useful marketing strategies that will guide you to make the right choice about your Airbnb.
Getting Airbnb Bookings through Website
Your own website, get direct bookings. Optimise the site. Updating it regularly, blogs - share them.
The best thing you can do to drive clients to your Airbnb is to have your own unique website, where people can easily book their stay. Putting your contact details is a good idea, however you want to make sure that people don’t need to rely on making phone calls to book in.
The key is to make things as easy as possible, which means you’ll need to create an easy to navigate, visually appealing website.
If you’ve already done this, the real work is about to begin. Optimising your website so that google ranks it high in search results is key in bringing clients to your website.
Doing things like posting regular content and having relevant keywords on your site that are popularly searched will be highly beneficial. There are great specialists who can take care of optimising your website for google to make sure you’re doing everything you can to drive as much traffic as possible to your brand.
Tumblr media
Build a Brand through Social Media
Interacting with people, posting valuable content, people asking questions and getting responses, FB groups,
Interacting with people on social media is a great way to bring clients to your site, while also being friendly and personal which people love.
Bear in mind that much more people are seeing your interactions than the people who actually interacted with them, and your reach is higher than it may seem.
For example, if we reply to a person asking for best places to stay in Belfast with a link to our site, that information will be visible to anyone stumbling upon the post.
This can be through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Tik Tok which is probably your best friend when it comes to reaching out through social media. We now have a Tik tok for @CentralBelfast and one dedicated to serviced apartment management called @airbnbcoach.
Teaming up with Companies
Teaming up with companies that you can offer a service to in exchange for theirs is extremely beneficial. We team up with local bars and restaurants all around Belfast and film the experience of eating/drinking at their place, which gives them exposure online while getting us views.
There’s a lot that can be done when two companies work together on pushing social media presence, and it’s completely cost free.
We all know how successful competitions can be, coming from the fact everybody loves free things.
There’s a smart way of creating valuable competitions completely cost free and that is by offering a free service to a company in exchange for theirs, which you can then use as a prize for an insta competition.
For a thorough video explaining marketing strategies relating to Airbnb management be sure to check out the full video on Tik Tok.

The Best Chippy You Can Find In Belfast
There’s absolutely nothing better in the whole world than opening your chippy and smelling that mouth watering food inside. We all know what it feels like to indulge in a delicious chippy after dreaming about it all day-nothing – it’s unbeatable.
Not only do we have the best place to stay in Belfast but we also have the best fish and chips in the world- at least the locals consider it to be that!
It’s not often that you come across an amazing chippy that will have you thinking about it every time you’re hungry, but John Longs in Belfast is exactly that – an experience that will forever live in your mind rent free..
With the perfect thick cut, ‘chippy chips’ and fresh cod, it’s exactly what a good Belfast chip shop experience is about.
If you’re introducing someone to a classic chippy for the first time (and you definitely should introduce everyone) then you need to take them to this place if you are local – or if you are visiting yourself – you won’t regret it.
You’ll know you’re in the right place as soon as you step foot within a few metres and get hit with that warm chippy smell that will make you follow it inside.
100 Years Old
When you step inside, you’ll see photos of celebrities that came to visit Belfast specifically for their fish and chips-that’s how big of a deal it is!
Being around for over 100 years, it’s a tradition and passion to make the best chippy possible.
An Experience your Taste Buds will Not Forget
Whether you’re a foodie or not, you’ll be able to tell between a bad, an okay and an absolutely breath-taking chipper that you know will become a regular treat. People seek many ways of relaxing and enjoying themselves once they walk out of work on a Friday evening, and the most popular phrase in Belfast at that time has to be ‘well…we getting a chippy?’.
We can’t be to blame for this when there are such great places right on our doorstep. Anyone outside of Northern Ireland – particularly Belfast- will simply not understand the level of importance this has. Knowing a good chippy is like a god given right in our city, and it’s taken quite seriously in Northern Irish Culture.
Pro Tip – Never mess with an Irish person’s chippy.
With the long awaited celebration of Paddy’s Day 2022 just behind us, you would have seen a lot of the following:
Having Fun
Having Chippy’s.
Having Pints
Or more like:
Having Pints
Having Chippy’s
Having Fun and Pints
With pubs finally opening back up, Paddy’s Day has to go down as the most cheerful day of the year in Belfast and you’ll remember seeing plenty of Step 1 and 3.
What better place to go to after standing at a Parade for hours than a gorgeous mouth watering chippy- and you already know where many went to- John Longs!
Make sure to check out our TikTok video and follow our channel.
We are constantly highlighting the foodie places throughout the city – naming John Longs the best chippy – and plenty more views and recommendations on the horizon.

Growth of the Serviced Accommodation Industry
Serviced apartments and the accompanying apartments management Belfast wide is booming at the moment. With the accommodation type becoming more and more popular and trendy by the year, with over 1 million serviced apartments existing in 160 countries in 2021 and a global increase of 24% in capacity over the last two years, our Airbnb management service in Belfast are predicted to continue.
So why not add your apartment to our management portfolio, sit back and watch the profits roll in.
If you haven’t heard about this phenomenon, these are fully furnished apartments available for short-term stays that have everything you need inside such as some form of living space and usually a kitchen area.
Basically everything you expect to have in a rented apartment is what you get, with varying amenities and interior design touches.
Growth of Serviced Apartments in Belfast
With lots of quirky options, apartments with colourful interiors and carefully selected details of furnishings and decorations, serviced apartments in Belfast have really taken off with the amazing staycations they offer. Every apartment offers a unique experience, different to any other and choosing to stay in one will undoubtedly make your travels more exciting.
Northern Ireland has risen in popularity in the tourism industry especially due to the number of Serviced Apartments on offer in the city. Back in early 2017, there were news articles on our city being the  fastest growing UK visitor destination and according to Belfast Telegraph serviced accommodation owners earned more than £16 million collectively in 2019.
With most guests staying in Belfast, they spent upward of  £59 million that year on staying in serviced apartments alone.
A Global Phenomenon
It seems as though every country wants to hop on the bandwagon and be involved in this new way of providing hospitality without the fuss of a hotel. It’s become as easy as searching for serviced apartments nearby and using a booking system to plan your stay.  Due to the pandemic and people resorting to staycations, Belfast has become a very popular place to stay for many people in Ireland.
Serviced apartments are now also popular to business people as a global report found that “67.74% of corporates now use serviced apartments for business travel” because it’s simply a cheaper option.
Five years ago countries outside the U.S were not familiar with the likes of AirBnB which is now a globally recognized app used worldwide, which just goes to show how quickly technological trends and advancements are taking off.
For a full global report on this growth of Serviced Apartments you can read up more here.
The Booking of Airbnb
With the rise of serviced apartments, Airbnb has allowed people to search, save and plan their stay destinations easily on their mobile phones. Signing in with google, there is no need to go through the hassle of creating a new account, and this also allows you to share places with your companion.
Once you make a booking you can simply send the reservation to the person who’s coming with you and they instantly receive an email with all the details!
Airbnb has also allowed for personal communication with the owner of the apartments, which offers a whole different experience to that of booking a hotel. Getting to know the person who has created the space is a great personal touch and people are loving it!
So What Makes Serviced Apartments Unique?
It’s undeniable that people are loving rentable apartments. The convenience of booking an entire apartment rather than just a hotel room is a highly attractive feature. Having the ability to house a small to large number of people is also a great perk, especially to businesses who are booking trips abroad.
This has also been a popular alternative to family events and special occasions.
Families are now booking apartments around Christmas time to be able to house the entire family and get a holiday feel to Christmas, while young people are prioritising finding an apartment for their group of friends rather than staying in a hotel monitored by staff – which is a huge problem for the industry.
Freedom and privacy is potentially a factor that plays a huge role in apartments being people’s go to option, with no reception desk or other occupants nearby, people have more independence.
With the global pandemic resulting in many businesses within the hospitality sector having to cut down on staff, the serviced apartments industry didn’t face this issue. Although serviced apartment owners didn’t have staff to pay, they still suffered as a result of less bookings, other than for remote working purposes.
With things slowly returning to normal in 2021, we saw many go on ‘staycations’ within all of Ireland, with Belfast being the centre point of attraction for those staying in Northern Ireland.
Going forward, with Businesses transforming into remote working environments and people no longer being tied to a designated office location, serviced apartments will undoubtedly rise in popularity in 2022.
With businesses already planning to be ‘sustainable in 2022’, you can expect to see a lot of workcation’s.
If you’re planning your next vacation and are interested in giving serviced apartments a go, why don’t you check out these fabulous quirky apartments in Belfast where there are millions of things to do.

How To Make Your Air BNB Stand Out with Standout Interiors
It’s safe to say that choosing where you’ll stay is a big part of your trip. Airbnb designers are going above and beyond in NI to create unique spaces, giving people unforgettable and distinctive experiences. Coming up with standout interiors, serviced apartments are grabbing everyone’s attention and becoming Instagrammable places to photograph.
With social media being a key influencer in people’s choices in choosing what Airbnb they stay in, it is in your best interest in this Instagram age to make statements in your design or provide luxury stays in your city to stand out from the competition in the market.
Bold Statements
Creating a statement using a specific style can create an interesting atmosphere. This can be done by using a style of furniture repeatedly throughout the interiors to make them stand out.
Using round edges throughout is one way to do this; round shaped seats with a round table, combined with a round clock on the wall. This can also be done with materials, designing an entire room with wooden furniture and accessories.
Bold Choice of Colour
If you want your Air BnB to really stand out; the best way to do this is to have a bold statement of colour. Design a whole room with one colour in mind to create a unique space that will undoubtedly attract the eye – we have done this in our apartments and I promise you that they stand out. We went for a bright yellow, pulling this through curtains, kitchen, dining ware as well as pillows and wall art.
Although there are people who look for simple, non-complicated, standard rooms – there are always those people who are looking for an exciting and new place to stay and those numbers are only rising.
If you’re one of those people, you’re in the right place and if you want to know how much money you can really make on Airbnb.
You will find that with an eye catching apartment, you are making bookings back to back like we are and very quickly you will realise the true scale of the potential in this booming market.
Remember- even if people wouldn’t choose a bright bold coloured interior in their home, holidays are for fun and people are a lot more open to quirky styles while on vacation to release their stress, change their mindset and recharge while they explore a new place.
In our apartments in Belfast, you will see the previously spoken about apartment, with vibrant yellow doors combining an industrial with a grey modern vibe-made to create a ‘home from home’ environment that is engaging, fun, Instagrammable, whilst also being an easy to clean and maintain space.
Themes
Sticking to a theme when designing an apartment is a great way of creating a special environment and making sure all your design choices are correlating.
Again, people going on vacation are looking for experiences, so make sure your interior represents the experience you’d like to offer.
Customise your Apartment
Give your apartment a name and have personalised pieces in the room, highlighting the name again.
Having the name somewhere in the interior will make people remember their stay here and feel like they’re somewhere truly special. If the room is so unique it even got its own name, it must be! If not the apartment name, you can use other tricks such as the Wellesley Guest Accomodation having a statement yellow door. People will remember this.
Go Beyond what’s Expected
Have you ever noticed a nice addition in a place you stayed at and thought ‘wow this is so nice and different!’? This is a great way to add to someone’s experience and of connecting with them by doing something they wouldn’t normally expect.
Central Belfast Apartments for example offer Free Netflix to their guests which is a really welcoming gesture that will definitely put a smile on many guests faces.
A great way of making your Airbnb stand out is by having this wow factor created by including statement pieces, bold colours and unique environments. Of course you need to provide people with necessary amenities and cleanliness, but that goes without saying.
People are chasing experiences and if you’re planning on taking that trip to the UK, you won’t be disappointed by going to Belfast. Not only is it a popular travel destination with The Titanic museum, Game of Thrones filming sets and Day Trips to the Giants Causeway, but it has fabulous apartments to stay in that you could be offering your monthly rental to and making a huge profit in comparison to the monthly payments you receive at the moment.
You will see the email subscription at the bottom of this page and that will get you the first chapter of my new book before is released and you will find my other book Serviced Accommodation: 5 Star Fundamentals on amazon. As well. If you are interested in getting started in the serviced apartment industry, then reach out to me and I would be more than  happy to aid you in beginning your journey.

Become Financially Free With Airbnb
The thought of hosting an Airbnb and making continuous profit that is three times more than what you get from long term renting seems like a dream right? It doesn’t have to be a dream, but it does come with some obstacles you don’t really hear much about and that is what we are all about, offering you a seamless way into the industry with our Airbnb management services in Belfast.
Investing in creating a beautiful space to attract guests can be a little scary in that you don’t know what type of people will book in. While handpicking your guests is not an option, there are ways of making sure you’re leaving your property in the right hands, or better yet-find professionals who can manage your Airbnb.
Central Belfast Apartments have 10 years of experience in managing serviced apartments in Belfast and if there is anyone to help you build your income from Airbnb, it’s us!
Making the Decision
With the serviced accommodation business still growing in Northern Ireland, there’s no better time to start acting than now. Many people may be hesitant about buying a property with the intention of transforming it into an Airbnb because of the simple fear of ‘what if the plan fails?’.
If you’re eager to hop on this bandwagon of owning your own serviced apartment and watching your extra income grow, there is absolutely no reason why you couldn’t achieve this.
Potential Income to be Made from Airbnb
Firstly, you don’t need to buy an expensive apartment and rent it out right away. The smart and money efficient way of doing this is by buying a cheaper property that may require some work to be done. You need to remember that you’ll be renovating, styling and designing the interior regardless of what it looks like anyway, so you may as well save some cash while you’re at it.
To give you an example, my own personal example, my initial expenses when purchasing my first serviced apartments will be included, and the profits that I have gone on to make from them – and I still do today.
An apartment worth £67,000 was transformed into a beautifully designed interior with £10,000 and results in an extra income of £30,000 per year!
This means that in just over 2 years the investment will be completely paid off and the rest is just clean profit-forever – just like mine was.
If you’re still unsure whether it’s worth it, think about how much extra money you can make if you buy a few properties to change into serviced accommodation. You can have multiple sources of endless income. And become financially free and get back your time.
Making the Right Decisions with Serviced Accommodations
You don’t need to go through this process alone, especially if it’s your first time. There are lots of things to be mindful of such as the type of property that works for S.A’s, locations, dealing with your guests and avoiding troublemakers.
If you’re seeking useful information on Airbnb management in Belfast, then Central Belfast Apartments Management would be happy to walk you through our tried and tested system.
There are tips in my book ‘serviced accommodation 5 star fundamentals’
Your can also put your email address in below to receive the first chapter of my new book before launch.
If you’d like to speak to us personally, you can reach out and get some insightful information on how to go about being financially free with Airbnb.

Danni Simpson Chats To Dave Cordner: Our Belfast Part Four
Northern Ireland is home to a lot of people, some who have achieved absolutely amazing things and we are a city that supports each other, we take pride in the success of our own, as well as those that have moved to the city and fell in love with the culture.
Interviewing the people of Belfast, uncovering the gems, the culture and discovering the essence of our city and to really celebrate just how far we have come together and define the direction that the city is moving in.
I talked to Danni Simpson, an Australia born artist that now calls Belfast home after falling in love with the city during a visit as you will learn, I will begin with the question to her as I will do everyone in the ‘Our Belfast’ series:
If You Had One Day Left in Belfast: What would you do?
Danni enthusiastically began with “it has to be what I wanted to do when I first got here” . Immerse yourself in “everything that is typical Belfast” said the Australian native who now calls Belfast home. In Danni’s eyes, that is “getting a pint, getting something that is typical Northern Irish food” – heading to the Cathedral Quarter is definitely something she would recommend.
Where To Go In The Cathedral Quarter
Duke of York
Dark Horse
Harp Bar
“The Harp bar was the first mural I scored when I got here from Australia”
It is out the back of the Harp Bar if you wanted to check it out, along with the other 3 murals she ended up doing for them. Belfast’s street art scene is absolutely incredible and Danni’s contribution to our colourful and exuberant Cathedral Quarter is just breath taking.
The talented Aussie reflected on her coming to Belfast “my mum is actually from Belfast” she knew more than most about the city before coming, explaining that “my granny took my mum and her brother to Australia during the troubles back in 72”
Without a full knowledge of the city, Danni explains that Belfast is just one of those places “ you don’t know until you land and soak it all in”.
She speaks of a holiday she had at 19 as a tourist to visit family and then returning at 25 and being in awe of the city, “Belfast had just completely changed” she expressed. Belfast really is changing at a colossal rate, the example here of Danni’s granny emigrating in ‘72 and then her opting to return decades later shows the dramatic rebirth of the city. Is this bit okay now? Or would you like it out altogether.
Danni explains that she “got completely soaked in by the murals” and the street art scene at this time in Belfast was beginning to boom. Her recollection of moving here is a credit to the people of Belfast “the people were so kind”, “always going out of their way to welcome”
Danni thinks that the way she was greeted and accepted that it says a lot about the people of Belfast, following with “they always want you to have a great time”.
Council commissioned the street artist for 5 pieces on electrical boxes in the Linen Quarter – a briefing she said was “for something typical Northern Irish, colourful, playful and engaging”. Danni went about researching Belfast slang and combining her findings with floral pops of colour to dress the once bleak parts of the city. You can scan the QR code if you stumble across these and see it in 3D.
A lot of the people that we interview for this series are asked to reflect on their experiences and the past – growing up in the troubles. With Danni’s unique perspective in that she came here as an adult and decided to stay, I posed the question:  ‘What made you want to stay?’
“It was the people, honestly it was the people that made me want to stay”
With much the same opinion that the long standing residents have, Danni proclaimed her love for our “colourful city, full of history”
The art scene in Belfast has political roots, Danni said that she was “lucky in a way”, that now is the time that “colourful murals, that are bright and positive” are being displayed on the streets and she is  to be involved with the movement.. Bringing hope and to smile to residents and tourists alike from the iconic yet bleak murals that reflect a dark past.
Danni has left a “fresh perspective” since coming to Belfast, shedding a much needed light on a new era, the new Belfast. You can see Danni’s work across Belfast, one of which she describes as “the never ending mural”.
“I’ve never ever thought of going to Belfast because I didn’t know what it was like” a comment from one of her friends back in Australia. Danny is somewhat of a spokesperson for Belfast, venting off the numerous highlights of the city, “the bars, the cafes, the landscapes of the Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge”. Come and experience “the really unique side of this part of the world and what it has to offer” is what the Australian native urges people to do.
My journey, people have been able to see why I have stayed here, because it is unique.
What excites you for the future?
With a colouring book that she has created with all things Northern Irish “showcasing all the unique things that make this palace what it is”, Danni has said that she hopes for more work that allows her to express her creative side more and travel to other cities with her work.
North Street Art Festival in Belfast back in 2021  saw “world class, international artists” erecting 50 new pieces of art that we are blessed with on our streets. Belfast is a lucky city, not just the luck of the Irish, but with the Council on board and commissioning artwork to brighten up the city as well as minimising graffiti, Danni thinks that “It’s going to continue to grow” and I would have to agree with the jet setting artist on this.
As someone who grew up in the city, I have to say thank you to Danni, for being a light of life in the city and bringing in the new Belfast – the era of bright, positive murals that we are so lucky to have,  as we continue to distance ourselves from the dark days and strive for a better Belfast. If you are visiting Belfast, I hope that this was an insight into our city and if you are looking for somewhere to stay – we have the best serviced apartments Belfast has to offer.

Michael Deane Chats To Dave Cordner: Our Belfast Part Three
Northern Ireland is home to a lot of people, some who have achieved absolutely amazing things and we are a city that supports each other, we take pride in the success of our own, as we navigate to rebuild a city once riddled with terror and hardship.
This series is about interviewing the people of Belfast, uncovering the gems, the culture and discovering the essence of our city, gems of the past, gone but not forgotten and to really celebrate just how far we have come together
I talked to Michael Deane, Michelin Star Chef and owner of some of Belfast’s most iconic restaurants and brasseries. I begin with the question to him as I will do everyone in the ‘Our Belfast’ series:
If you had one day left in Belfast: What would you do?
Michael started off saying that “we are food and drink people” and never a truer statement has been said of our people, we are in total foodie saturation and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Michael Deane of course is one of Belfast’s ultimate foodies, he loves to wine and dine with friends and family at eateries across the city, staying true to his support local mantra, as well as welcoming guests to his many restaurants – he is iconic to the trade.
“I think food and drink makes Belfast go round” he said and it does, it keeps us going, it has us out and about, enjoying the sites, the people and the atmosphere and that is the advice he has for anyone that is coming to Belfast, enjoy it, soak in the energy, the vibrancy, the culture and the craic. – ’just enjoy the vibe of the city’
Deanes used to have a “Dine around Deanes” experience that you could book, something Michael said “I do miss” and reflected fondly upon. Even though you can no longer avail of that, he suggests that you head out and ‘have a bite here, there and everywhere’, with a wealth of eateries and bars that spread across the city you are spoilt for choice (check out the best bars in Belfast).
A celebrity in Belfast, a pioneer in the food and drink industry, Michael mentions some of his favourite spots in the city and recommends others in the industry that are passionate about Belfast as well.
He mentions Bengal Brasserie and Ox among his favourites, as well as his love for Asian cuisine in the city. Michael thinks that the ‘Ethnic restaurants aren’t supported enough in the media’ and urges more media publication on ethnic cuisine and promoting them as the proud Northern Irish restaurateurs that they are, so he goes there and supports them, supports local – now more than ever – “I like to support local” he finished with.
What do you remember from back in the day?
‘When we first came to Belfast, we lived in Dunmurry…we moved to the Donaghadee/Groomsport area, outside of Belfast and we tended to stay away as the troubles were in full flight. He reflected on when he first opened and remembered “glass coming through the windows” and having to undergo refurbishment – a far cry from the city we know now.
He stated “I think it made us stronger and tougher as a city”, putting it out in black and white ‘we will never forget it, but I am proud having watched us grow out of that state’.
“The city was dead, the barriers were up” and now we proudly welcome over 5 million tourists every year to Belfast, bringing £1 billion into the economy in 2019 (Tourism NI Statistics, 2019)
We have a long way to go as a  city and Michael thinks that the food and drink industry is going to be the igniting factor in pushing the city to its full potential, and is of the thinking that there needs to be more hospitality establishments in and around the city hall to really have a central hub to the city and pull together the fragments that still exist as we continue to build to a better Belfast.
What excites you about the future?
A positive outlook from Michael as he reflected on the pandemic, the reassessing of his business, as many had to in the city and how the people of Belfast handled the pandemic restrictions.
A man with a great outlook after a tough year, understanding that the people in Belfast have already been through so much having grown up here, he said:
“They are strong people, and I think the people here will always keep it a vibrant city, an exciting city”
We really are a resilient city, something I am finding is shared by those passionate about Belfast in this series.
Why do you think you had such great success?
Attributing his success to a good Northern Irish attitude of “kick back, get our head up and prove that we can do the best”
Michael reflected on his time abroad starting out his career and how we as people had to prove ourselves, recalling feeling “treated like a thick Paddy”, proving himself and getting to where he is today.
Proudly summing up with his view that ‘we are great achievers’ and just unbelievable what he has achieved alongside his wife and son.
“I want to leave some sort of legacy that Michael Deane did well in Belfast and he provided a service, not just to the top end”, – a legacy he will most certainly leave for others to continue.
“We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner – we aren’t brain surgeons” he said – well, maybe not Michael, but you certainly have pioneered the food and drink industry in Northern Ireland.
I think that I can speak for the city as a whole, certainly those that enjoy the food and drink experiences you provide, for your welcoming approach and for setting down the building blocks for the next generation to continue your legacy and strive to make Belfast bigger and better.

Where To Eat In Belfast This Autumn - Top Three!
Tumblr media
Blank
We’re going to kick things off with a new kid on the block! This exciting new venture was whipped up in the minds of Christina and Jonny Taylor. The pair have been owning and running Shed Bistro on the busy Ormeau Road for the past 3 years, meanwhile this creative concept has been perfected in their minds for over 7 years.
Basically, menus are so last year!
At Blank the entire concept centres around a celebration of local ingredients and the people behind them. This means there is no menu! Instead they have a blank list - a list of ingredients that you will get to try throughout the night. Interesting right?
Blank is truly a place to pour all of their creativity, experience and love for fresh, local food and the outcome completely reflects that. Blank is a truly unique dining experience that pays a well deserved homage to our local farmers and their exceptionally high quality produce.
So if you’re looking for something a bit different this Autumn, Blank is definitely the place for you! But be warned, their bookings are filling up fast so you better be quick!
The Dumpling Library
Next up, we have another newcomer! So, if different is what you’re after then why not take a trip to the continent of Asia! Enter The Dumpling Library. This is the latest venture by Eddie Fung who also owns the delicious ZEN restaurants, so you already know this is going to be at least equally delicious and you’d be right!
The concept is designed around the typical cuisine you would usually find in home across China and other parts of Asia. But obviously the star of the show is the mouth-watering parcels of delight known as dumplings! Definitely try the rainbow dumplings for a true mix of flavours. Perfect for sharing!
But the delight doesn’t just stop with the food. The Dumpling Library’s cocktails menu hosts a wide variety of elaborate fruity cocktails that you’d be hard pressed to beat anywhere else in Belfast.  I went for the Pear Tree which is a mix of Stolichnaya Vodka, lychee liqueur, lychee juice and pear juice. It might just be my new favourite cocktail in Belfast!
The Crafty Vintner Tasting Rooms
I don’t know about you but my idea of an ideal Autumn afternoon is a forest walk through the fallen autumnal leaves before relaxing in front of a candle lit charcuterie and cheese board shared over a bottle of a delicious full-bodied red wine. And what do you know, The Crafty Vintner Tasting Rooms allows you to do just that!
This is the ultimate romantic day date location, I mean what’s more intimate than sharing a platter of assorted meats and cheeses before cheersing to the perfect date!
What’s also fun about The Crafty Vintner is that it allows you to carry out your own wine tasting. All you have to do is top up a card, slot it into your desired wine dispenser and wait. So if like me, you struggle to pick just one wine off the menu, this is perfect for you!
So there you have it! Our top three unique and interesting places to eat in Belfast this Autumn. So get your walking boots on, take a forest stroll and then sit back, relax and enjoy some delicious food in the city!
if you are staying in the city, there is no better place than our serviced apartments Belfast wide to welcome you into the city you will call home for a night, two or hopefully more.
