Anyway I'm not gonna touch that internalized lycanphobia with a ten foot pole. Being turned by your partner is something that can be incredibly intimate as long as both parties are consenting and the one being turned is 100% sure they want it. Literally the only downside to transforming once a month is the pain, but midol works just fine. No one with these "lycanthropy bad" takes ever wants to discuss the legitimate positives that come with this "curse" lmao.

the golden ticket idea when it comes to abigail is so sad because while she was her fathers intended victim all along, in the end she was never loved or honoured like the other girls. she rarely ever recieved her fathers attention outside of hunting. she didnt know his love, didnt feel cherished or honoured like the girls he didnt even know. like the girls who looked like her. she wasnt consumed as nourishment, she didnt have her hair crafted into the comforting plush of a pillow, didnt have her bones carved into hunting knives to be of use years after her death. there was no honour or purpose in her death. she was just left to waste. even elise hadnt been left fully to waste–to die alone and unloved–she had been "healed" and left to lie in the comfort and safety of her bed, dressed up with her hair done, layed down to rest with gentle hands. when her father got to her, abigail didnt get that treatment. her death wasnt treated like an apology, he didnt carefully lay her down to rest, he didnt cherish her. he let her fall to the ground to choke on her own blood. he put all the love he shouldve put into his daughter, into everyone else but her. she was never seen or loved or known. it was as if she werent even his. living as someone meant to die, as if she were never really alive to receive his love to begin with. she was the golden ticket, but she was never treated as such. always loved through a duplicate, another version of herself, never for herself. even when hannibal had taken her in (coerced her into being isolated under his care) later on, he never loved her for who she was. he loved her for who he could make her. he loved her for who she reminded him of. he loves his little sister, not abigail. always loved for who she couldve been, never for herself. she was taught about love and cherisment and honour, and in the end, she didnt receive any of those things.

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.

It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).

Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.

One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.

You know, it's kinda funny how much of high fantasy centers around kings and nobility and courtly intrigue considering that the archetypal high fantasy, Lord of the Rings, had the rather explicit moral of "saving the world is up to this backwater hick and his gardener because no politician, least of all inherited nobility, would have the ability to see past their own ambition and throw away a weapon". Oh sure, Aragorn is a great king and all, but there's a reason he's over there running a distraction ring while the hobbits do the real work. Sauron loses because he gets distracted by kings and armies and great battles (i.e. typical high fantasy stuff) letting Frodo and Sam sneak through his back door and blow it all to hell.

Just saying, maybe old Jirt knew what he was saying when he said that the small folk doing their best and holding to each other was more powerful than a dozen alliances and superweapons and we should respect him for it.

You know, that Mythbusters post legitimately changed my life. Before seeing it, I had exponentially more guilt and stress about not being able to sleep, which of course, further exacerbated my inability to sleep.

Now, every time I wake up about three am, knowing I have to get up at 6.45, instead of stressing and panicking about how my day is going to be sleep deprived and miserable, I just tell myself 'Time to activate Mythbusters Protocol' and lie there with my eyes closed safe in the knowledge that I am measurably reducing later feelings of exhaustion.

And when this happens, about 70% of the time the reduction of guilt and stress means I actually do fall back asleep, so all in all instead of getting only three or four hours sleep, I get five to six and a half.

Which y'know, major improvement in health and energy.
