OK, but that person has a point about people who think Taylor is the greatest songwriter regeneration also think Harry Potter is like the greatest book lol. Which is why I completely understand how she surpassed the Beatles.

The Beatles are considered one of the greatest artist of our generation and it’s so funny because if you look up tweets about them, you’ll see people saying things like “Drake could write Let it Be, but the Beatles could never write Marvins room”… keep in mind Drake isn’t that bad of a songwriter either and has written for Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Beyoncé. But that’s just one example because there’s hundreds of more tweets where people are saying that but using different artists they feel could’ve written a Beatles songs but the Beatles could never write that artist song. So I can definitely see a newer generation 50 years from now making those same jokes about Taylor Swift…..people already kind of do. When I say this, I’m not saying it to put two successful and talented women against each other but if you think about it, Beyoncé could most definitely do love story (and any other Taylor song), but Taylor could never do formation, drunk in love, Break My Soul….etc.

I mean it’s so true!!! Every generation is going to have their ICONs and their own standard of quality music. We have SOOOO MUCH more content to consume so I think it’s harder for our generation label who are the greats!!!!!

swiftgrons are winning, but at what cost...

I just think “Late Stage Swiftgron” is inaccurate, a misnomer, because why do they come off as anxiety ridden exes (*) who are in “contact” throughout the last ten plus years?

* who may or may not have had a passionate, off-and-on, ill-defined, mutually addictive situationship that turned serious at the worst time, only for extended, brutal break ups to leak over into whomever Taylor was “BFFs” with.

It starts with the Swiftgron Kaylor Overlap, and how Taylor’s reaction has shaped her, and impacted her decisions (picking Karlie over Dianna).

The thing that bothers TF about me is that i find Taylor swift very mediocre. She’s an above average pop songwriter but that’s about it. She’s not awful, she’s not great. So how does she inspire so much fucking discourse?? This album is probably 10x more talked about than other major releases. It’s baffling.

MARKETING!

I really think it comes down to the fact that she will go above and beyond for her fans (even if she’s capitalizing off them). She thinks about all of the details and gets her fans involved. Sometimes it bites her in the foot but I think it is what mainly scaled her fanbase. So many celebs today try to shelter themselves from their fans. It’s breaks the connection and I think that’s why people are so obsessed with Taylor. She feels like a friend.

I also want to point out that she has attached her name with very prominent figures in the music industry from the very beginning of her career (Tim McGraw, George Strait, LeAnn Rimes etc.) she was able to gain credibility quickly and then that eventually evolved into her transition into the young Disney stars circle. She was able to snatch fans from Miley, Demi, Selena, and the Jonas Brothers’ fanbases without actually have to be apart of the Disney machine (THIS STILL BLOWS MY MIND). She marketed herself as a songwriter first which set her apart from her peers. She publically dated high profile celebrities which gave her exposure into different fanbases outside of the music scene (Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, etc.)

And I didn’t even mention her scandals. It all just adds up.

She became a juggernaut. Her formula is exclusive to her and I don’t think it can be repeated.

beyonce - single ladies

gaga - shallow

taylor - folklore (1989 feels like the more obvious choice but tbh if she had released another dud after lover i think it would’ve been over for her)

rihanna - the massive success of fenty

adele - honestly think she’s kind of always had it. even if she releases a trash record she can always lean back on the strength of her voice / showmanship

and most recent addition: miley - this year’s grammys performance and tbh if she hadn’t gotten sober and started taking care of her voice i do not think it would’ve happened

people who never got it and probably never will: katy, selena gomez, demi, kesha (unless her next album absolutely smashes it), lizzo, and frankly dua lipa isn’t interesting enough for me to see it happening

people who don’t have it yet but are in the running: ariana, megan thee stallion, billie, olivia rodrigo (obviously we will have to see how these last two persist into their 30s)
