'⁀➷ summary :: you thought that you and your best friend's relationship was more than silly movie marathons, video calls, and gaming sessions, it was a stupid thought, you will always be more than a friend, but less than a lover to him.

'⁀➷ notes :: first fic in a few months! sorry if i chose angst insteadof fluff, 3/5 of the fics in progress are angst LMAO. well, i hope you enjoy reading this fic! took like about an hour and a half on this? i have school tomorrow i should've done my homework but whatever :)

You saw a glimpse of sunlight sneaking through your close curtain from your window, then you realized, you once again cried yourself to sleep again thinking of Anton Lee, the man of your dreams. No, nightmares, being with him every single day and having to contain those stupid butterflies in your stomach every time you eat, play, and hang out with him makes it so frustrating. Why was he like this? Did the gods from above have a grudge against you to send someone like him? Whatever it was, you hated it. You couldn't wait to go home from school after 9 horrifying and lovestruck hours seeing and being with him. You didn't even know why you were so excited to go home, it was worse! Maybe it was the fact you didn't have to see his frustrating but so damn cute smile of his, or you didn't have to see hundreds of girls try and give him letters and chocolates of their own. You didn't care anyways, right? Your relationship would never budge out of the middle between friends and lovers.

As you got ready for school, you thought to yourself, "Just a few more months until we part ways right? I wouldn't have to deal with this cycle again and again?" but you were oh so wrong, the fact that the both of you would part ways for college made your life excruciating. "Whatever", you thought to yourself, "I'll just cherish these last few months with him, i guess!". You got yourself together, said goodbye to your parents, and went outside to see Anton, waiting outside for you. "It's 6:30 in the morning, did this cycle really have to start now?", you told your mind.

"What are you doing here Anton? It's so early and you're like almost always late for school? Is this even the real you? I'm surprised", you told the boy. "You told me you needed help studying for the math test we had? I heard from Hanni that it was 80 items, gosh i hate math.", he replied. "Oh, Hanni. I heard she likes you? It's pretty obvious that she likes you, I mean, she always wants to partner up with you and gives you snacks! The both of you would be good for each other!", you say with regret, why would you say that? It just lessened your chance to be with him, but its not like you had one to begin with. "You are right, but I'm not interested in anyone right now, all I care about is getting my grades up and trying my best to get into Yonsei! It's one of the best universities here in Korea!" , he followed. He really was perfect, caring, handsome, loving, and cares about his grades. No wonder hundreds of girls fell for him, you included. "Well, with how you're doing currently, you'll get in, in no time! Let's go now! We have a math test to review for!", you told him before the both of you walk to school.

While on the way to school, Anton asked " What university are you thinking of enrolling in, y/n? You could try out for Yonsei as well! I know we'll both ace the entrance exams!", he said followed by a smile, the smile you hated but loved at the same time. "I could, but I'm thinking of going abroad? I feel like I could show more of my capabilities and talents overseas!" you responded. "I'm proud for you, y/n! I'm glad you're becoming better and better every single day!" Anton complimented, you smiled at him and before you know it, the two of you are already at the gates of the school and head for the school's library.

-time skip to after the exams-

"That test was actually pretty easy! Don't you think Anton?", you asked him, "It was! I was surprised by how most of the things we reviewed for was actually there, haha!", he says happily. "It's lunch time, right? Let's head to the rooftop? I heard that since it's spring, the trees look absolutely stunning all the way up there!", you invite the boy to which he agrees. On the way up, Hanni bumps into you both, "Oh! Hi Anton, I was just looking for you, and hi y/n!", the girl says, to which the both of you smile and greet her as well but you knew damn well Hanni only looked for the both of you, for Anton. "I was just with Jiwoo and she told me to give this to you!" she announces and gives Anton a heart-shaped box with cookies inside and a letter on top. Hanni says her farewells to the both of you and you reach the rooftop and Anton decides to read the letter. "It was just another confession, I don't know why they won't stop! I already said again and again that I'm a study first type of guy. They just don't get it." the boy speaks, "But the cookies are good, here get some!", the boy adds. The both of you laugh and go back to the classroom just before the bell ran.

-time skip again to after classes-

Anton decided to walk you home after classes ended, and god did you hate it. You were fine being with him during the day but being with him after classes? You agreed, of course, I mean, what type of bestfriend would you be if you didn't? One the way home, Anton told you, "You know, I really see you more as a friend, you're just that someone I wouldn't mind being with, even if I didn't want to.", you tried your best to hide your blushing face by pretending to look for something in your bag, thankfully it worked. "Same! You're so kind and caring, it's almost hard to hate you if we were enemies." you reply, you hoped the thing you wished for was happening, but you knew that it wouldn't happen, "You're like, the bestest of all bestfriends in the entire world!" the boy tells you, with you saying you feel the same way with the same regretful feeling you felt earlier in the morning coming back again to torment you. You both reached your house and Anton said goodbye to you, you walked in your house feeling like a fool, you fooled yourself into thinking he'd feel the same way as you did. How stupid you were. You got ready to do your homework right after you got home, oh wait, you didn't, you went straight upstairs as you feel tears rolling down your eyes, you inevitably fell down to your bed as another crying session begins, was this your 4th or 5th one? Whatever, all your mind focused on was that you and Anton's relationship will always be glued in the middle, after all, the both of you were more than friends, but less than lovers.

Sung Hanbin was the perfect boyfriend for you, he was everything you'd want for a partner. He was caring, loving, respectful, kind, affectionate, he was perfect. almost. He became distant from you the past few weeks, you always wondered why. You tried to ask him why he was becoming more and more distant from you but he always said he was just stressed and busy. You knew he was lying, whenever he and problems, he would always open up to you about it. On the earlier stages of your relationship with him, he told you about his ex in New York, the same place he'd be going back to for her. You should've figured that he'd go back there anyways, your relationship has been going downhill ever since he became more and more distant from you. You knew you were just a distraction from her when Hanbin broke up with his ex, a distraction from all the pain he felt when she left him.

"You don't have to hide it, I know why you went Said you needed space, I know better than that"

He tried his best to hide the real reason he went back to New York, for her. He reasoned that he needed space for a while for his departure but you both knew it was a lie. You knew the actual reason of his leaving, he was like an open book that you read very well. He thought you were oblivious to his actions, but of course you knew better than that. You knew he lost his feelings for you, you knew he never truly loved you in the first place. His heart still belonged to her, the woman he first loved and still loved. He didn't care that you were a distraction for his aching heart, he waited and waited for her to come back. I guess she did so after all, huh.

"Could've fought for you but I just let you leave Hurt too much to consider you didn't love me''

You had a choice of trying to let him stay, but you just let him go. It would've been a failed attempt anyways, he never actually loved you. It broke your heart to think that he maybe never for once thought about you for you. He just thought about you as her. You wonder if you looked or acted the same way as she did, you would've been correct after all, right? You stayed speechless the time he waved goodbye at you, it gave you a glimpse of hope that he would come back, but deep in your heart you knew it would never happen. You wanted you to say something, but you stayed with your gut that said to just be quiet for the sake of it. You didn't want to ruin this moment for him just for you.

You tried your best to think positive and stay happy without Hanbin, but your mind said no. You imagined him holding her in his arms, laughing about how oblivious you were to Hanbin's plans. You thought how crazy it was for you to fall for his tricks. I mean, who wouldn't? He was charming in every single way possible, who wouldn't be able to resist his charms? Your mind clouded with all the thoughts of Hanbin and his ex living their best lives, especially Hanbin, he got to live his life without you, you were like an old t-shirt that was thrown away because it didn't fit the its owner anymore. You didn't blame him for that, you always thought she was better even if you didn't know what she was like. She should've been better than you for Hanbin to go back to her, right?

Beach dates were Hanbin's favorites, or were it her favorites? Did he force himself to go on beach dates with you because they reminded them of her? You loved going on those beach dates as well, it made you feel as if you and Hanbin were the only people there, it made you feel...free. You tried your best to hold back your tears that were already on the verge of escaping as Hanbin went on the plane. You saw a glimpse of his face that somewhat looked...sad? You didn't care much though, all that was on your mind was the person you loved most in life just left, but he needed space from you, didn't he? You couldn't make him stay, you wanted to but you didn't have the courage to do so. Maybe it was the fact that maybe your were the problem in the relationship? Maybe it was actually you?

"Can't quit this, so damn wicked to leave California and Me"

It was so cruel, so damn wicked for him to leave you behind. He didn't even explain why he was so distant from you, but you didn't need it though, right? He left for her. The person he loved most with you being the next. You met Hanbin in California, in which your relationship with him bloomed more and more, but all flowers have to wilt in the end, California was the same place he left you. Who knew that your relationship with him would start and end at the same place? A part of you despised him for his cruelness, the other part knew he needed this and stayed hopeful that the negative things you thought about would never happen. I guess you were right after all, weren't you?

The weekends were one of the best things to ever happen! you could be with your boyfriend, completely free from the stress and tiredness your work had to give you. the both of you decided to go on a date together at the mall! you guys spent the day eating out, buying some snacks you saw on tiktok that looked good, and getting new clothes! you both saw a flea market not far from the mall so you guys decided to check it out! there was so much to explore, there were pretty tees, pants, shirts, and jewelry! You almost lost Hao because of how intrigued you were with all of the little trinkets, items, and clothes they had! After a good 2 hours in the flea market, you both decided to go back to the mall to relax before going home. ''Do you wanna get some milk tea?" you asked your boyfriend; his eyes lighten upon hearing your questioon, "sure! really craving something cold after all this heat'' Hao replies. You both walked together back to the mall and went to your go-to milk tea shop. "Hello! Welcome to Sereni-tea! What would you like?" the cashier greeted the both of you, "Hi! I'd like a (favorite milk tea flavor)!" you asked, "And I'll get a strawberry flavored one please, thank you!" Hao asked too, "Okay, that'll be $7 dollars, please!" the cashier asked, "Baobei, i'll pay. You already bought a lot of items from the market! I haven't paid anything for you throughout this day!" your sweet boyfriend pleaded, "But you've been busy and stressed over your work this week! I don't want you to worry over me'' you said with a little frown, Hao kissed you on your forehead and said not to worry much because he needed this more than anything. You finally gave up and let him pay and you both got your drinks and decided to roam around the mall once again and you saw the arcade! You immediately run towards it almost leaving your boyfriend behind. "Baobei, wait!" Hao pleaded but it was no use you went inside the arcade and saw all kinds of prizes, claw machines, and games! Once he caught up with you, you asked him if the both of you could try to win some prizes in the claw machine, "Are you sure? the last time we were here, you almost spent $30 dollars trying to win the big bunny plush!" you boyfriend asks you, "of course i am! and for your information, the original price of the bunny was $50 dollars so it was a $20 dollar discount!" you reassured Hao. "Fine, but if you don't win anything don't blame me!" Hao tells you, "Okay, okay! come one let's go!!" you enthusiastically say as you saw a hello kitty plushie and decided to try your best to get it!

"ugh! this stupid plushie won't budge!" You said, tone sounding annoyed. "I told you! But while we're here now, try to win it, okay?" Hao tells you, giving you a kiss on your forehead as a good luck charm.

"NOO!! i was so close! Stupid stupid claw machine!" you said once again, more angry than annoyed than the last time. "Baobei..Why not let me do it? I have good experience with claw machines, you know?" Your boyfriend asks you in order for you to not try to break the machine. "No! I can do this, I am y/n l/n, I will prove to the claw machine gods that I will get hello kitty!" you say with a little chuckle escaping your boyfriend's mouth.

"Baobei, I might need more good luck kisses, This is so rigged!!" You ask your boyfriend to which your boyfriend gives you 5 quick pecks on your cheeks, nose, and forehead as he chuckles a bit more to your cute annoyed expression. "Baobei..Let me try it out! You never know maybe I'll win it for you?'' Hao says to which you said you wanted a few more tries!

"Okay baobei, can you do it for me now? I'm so mad at this rigged ass claw machine!! It's impossible to win!" you asked Hao, "Told ya so baobei, don't worry, your amazing boyfriend will win it for you!" your boyfriend says as you scoffed happily since he's gonna probably win it more than you.

-TRY 33-

"Yes! Baobei! I got it! I finally won hello kitty!" Hao enthusiastically says, "omg! yes! baobei, how are you so good???'' you say finally happy knowing that Hao got it after about a good 10 minutes after your failed attempts in the arcade. "I told you I'd win it for you!" your boyfriend says giving you a kiss on the lips and giving you the toy after. You quickly kissed him back and gave him a hug as a thank you gift for winning you the plushie and for one of the best days ever! The both of you went home afterwards and the first thing you did once you both got there was put the hello kitty toy besides the big bunny toy you won the last time you were at the arcade. You 'won' hello kitty after all after spending more than $20 and that's the most important thing, right?

: ̗̀➛ Your boyfriend getting day offs are usually spent inside your guys’ shared apartment cuddling and watching movies and/or tv shows you guys were interested in watching and these was one of those days.

: ̗̀➛ Renting the new Spiderman movie, you guys got blankets, pillows, and snacks to your living room. You would fix the couch to be much more comfortable for the two of you while Matthew turned on the tv and set the movie up while also opening the chip bags and other snacks you guys had!

: ̗̀➛ The movie was super good but you couldn’t help but feel tired because of all the work you had to do in your job today, you didn’t want to disappoint your boyfriend by sleeping not even halfway through the movie but your droopy eyelids said otherwise and you drifted away to dreamland.

: ̗̀➛ Your boyfriend on the other hand noticed your sleeping figure and made you more comfortable, “hmm? looks like they fell asleep.” Matthew says in his mind as he carries you bridal style to your shared bedroom and gently laid you down on your shared bed while putting a blanket over your body.

: ̗̀➛ Matthew then after shuts down the tv, cleans up the leftover snacks you guys had, put the blankets and pillows away, and then cleans himself up to quickly be able to sleep beside you.

: ̗̀➛ Getting invited by your boyfriend to their dorms for a movie night was one of the best days ever! Your boyfriend, Taerae, invited you after their manager said that they could have a movie night and a day off after.

: ̗̀➛ He invited you through facetime because of how excited he was! "Baby!! Are you free tonight? I hope so, because our manager allowed us to have a movie night and a day off after! I asked them if I could invite you and they said yes!" your boyfriend enthusiastically said and you knew you couldn't say no and he was over the moon when you said you could come over!

: ̗̀➛ When you went to their dorms, you knocked on the door and you were greeted by Jiwoong who told you to come in, you saw Zhang Hao, Gunwook, and Matthew who all greeted you a 'hello', but most importantly, Taerae was there who almost immediately greeted you and hugged you after, he kissed your forehead, ''I'm so happy that you could come over baby! I really needed this, you know? Have you eaten yet? If so, then change into your pjs to be more comfortable!" your boyfriend tells you.

: ̗̀➛ After you changed into your pajamas, you quickly went to the living room and cuddled up with Taerae. The both of you along with Matthew and Yujin, waited for the other members. Gyuvin seeing the both of you cuddle said sarcastically, ''Really, rght in front of my eyes?" ''Your just jealous you don't have anyone to cuddle with, lmao'' Ricky said with Gyuvin hitting him after. ''Okay, stop you two, you really want to do this in front of our guest?" Hanbin scolded them both, ''No no! It's okay, it's actually kinda funny hehe'' you say to Hanbin. Taerae was relieved knowing you didn't take what Gyuvin said to heart because he would've shouted at him (LMAO)

: ̗̀➛ When all of you were in the living room, you guys watched the first 2 movies, but during the 3rd, you were feeling a bit tired. You leaned onto your boyfriend's chest, you didn't want to disappoint your boyfriend by sleeping so quickly into the night but your droopy eyelids said otherwise and with that, you fell asleep.

: ̗̀➛ Your boyfriend on the other hand, noticed your sleeping figure and gave a quick kiss on your head before hugging you closer to him for you too keep warm.

: ̗̀➛ A good 15 minutes after you fell asleep, Yujin was humming to the song that was playing in the movie loud enough to wake someone up who was lightly sleeping. ''Shh! Yujin, y/n is asleep! They might wake up!!" Taerae scolds the boy, afraid to wake you up. "Sorry hyung! The song is just so catchyy'' Yujin apologizes to Taerae.

: ̗̀➛ When you woke up from your slumber, you were on Taerae's bed, and beside you was your boyfriend sleeping peacefully. You got up to go to the bathroom and when you were done, Hanbin and Jiwoong greeted you 'good morning', you asked them what happened after you fell asleep, ''Well basically, we watched 2 more movies after you fell asleep and we got to bed at about 1 o'clock? Taerae carried you on his back and onto his bed and that's basically it!" Hanbin answered. You thanked Hanbin for telling you what happended last night.

: ̗̀➛ You took a shower and got in your work uniform and thanked the members who were awake for inviting you for the movie night and for letting you stay for the night! You asked Matthew to tell your boyfriend that you had to leave early for your job to which Matthew said he would tell Taerae. You also sent him a text so he was extra assured you were safe. The text said "Hey baby! If your reading this, sorry I had to leave early :(, I had to go to work early because of a meeting, I promise you I'll bring you home some sushi and ice cream!! Love you! &lt;3", Taerae was relieved knowing that you were safe and texted you almost immediately after he read your message! :DD

lifetime 241 . .

“do you think we know each other?”

gyuvin looks at you, all confused. of course you both know each other. weren’t you guys dating? was he hallucinating the whole relationship?

you laughed, seeing the confused expression on his face. the both of you were sitting on your desks, in your classroom after school for a ‘study date’ which had clearly turned to anything but studying. gyuvin was playing games on his phone, while you said every little thought you had out loud.

gyuvin put his phone down, giving you his full attention. he loves hearing you talk, even if you had the most insane idea known to mankind.

“no, no, i meant,” you paused, gathering all your thoughts. “i meant, do you think, we know each other in other lifetimes too?”

gyuvin tilt his head, processing your question. “like the movie doctor strange?”

you thought about it. that was one way of seeing it. “yeah, something like that!” you giggled. “do you think we love each other in every single one?”

gyuvin smiled at you, stretching your cheeks. he finds you and your thoughts so adorable. “i mean, there’s so many different possibilities. infinite number of lifetimes …” his voice trails off. “there’s probably one lifetime where we don’t even know each other.”

you mock-gasped. “you think we don’t love each other in every single one? how could you?” you said in the most sarcastic tone possible.

gyuvin chuckled, shaking his head. “i meant—” he clears his throat. “—there’s so many different possibilities. so many lifetimes, anything is possible.” he glanced at you, staring into your eyes in a way that made you blush slightly. “but i bet, we love each other in majority of those infinite lifetimes. we love each other in our current lifetime. that counts, right?”

you smiled at him. you thought about his words, yes there was a possibility that you both don’t even know each other in one lifetime. but your current lifetime was the best in your opinion.

“you are not wrong …” your voice trails off. “i bet there is a lifetime where you are an idol and i’m just merely loving you as your number one fan. i’m still loving you there, right?” you knew how much gyuvin loved to dance, and he was insanely good at it. you were usually there when he practices, admiring the way he danced. how could one be so good? you were basically his number one fan, supporting him to pursue his dreams.

gyuvin looked at you. “isn’t that now?”

you shook your head. “i mean, of course now but i meant, a lifetime where you are an idol, performing for fans all around the world while i am in the crowds, supporting and loving you as a fan.”

gyuvin thought about what you said. a lifetime where he was an idol but he did not know who you are? that can’t be right. he loved you the most in the world, besides his lovely dog. he could not bare to imagine a lifetime where your existence wasn’t know to him.

“then …” his voice trails off, thinking of the right words. “i hope that in another lifetime, you are an idol and i am your fan too, returning all the love you once gave me.”

lifetime 944 . .

you were at the convenience store, getting yourself a quick midnight snack. deadlines getting nearer and nearer, you needed a break.

you were waiting to use to the boiler, the guy who was in front of you taking his time. you groaned in annoyance. what’s taking so long?

the guy turned to look at you, hearing your groaned. you looked at him, awestruck for a moment before looking away. wow, he was gorgeous.

you admired his back for a moment before looking away, feeling too much like a creep for staring. finally, the guy was done, holding his cup noodles and carefully walking away when he loses his grip on the cup noodles, all the contents spilling all over you.

you have got to be kidding me, you thought.

you yelped, the hot water scalding your hand. “i’m so sorry!” the guy apologises, his ears turning red and feeling so, so bad. he finds a napkin and tries to wipe the soup off your shirt. you stopped him, grabbing the napkins and wiping it off yourself.

“i’m terribly sorry!” the stranger apologised. he had a bag and was looking through it, before pulling out a hoodie. “here, change into this. there’s a toilet at the back.” he points to the door at the back of the store. “i’m so sorry, i will pay for your food!”

“i already paid,” you said, a little annoyed, eyeing the hoodie that was clearly way too big for you. you throw the napkin away. thankfully, you did not sustain any burns. the guy looked apologetic, putting his hoodies into your hands. “go change, i will think of something in the meantime.” he takes the cup noodles off your hands, nudging you to the bathroom. you reluctantly did as he wanted, changing out of your shirt and wearing his hoodie instead.

you took a sniff. oh, the stranger smelt good. you came out of the bathroom, seeing the stranger sitting down on a set of tables with your cooked noodles. “i’m so sorry,” he apologises again and takes your dirty shirt off your hands. “i will wash this.”

“it’s fine,” you said as you start to take a bite out of your noodles. you looked at him, who was still sitting with you. “as an apology, give me your name and number.”

he stared at you, a little shock of how bold you were cause he was planning on getting your number first.

“i’m kim gyuvin.”

lifetime 1101 . .

you were in a dance studio, preparing for your upcoming performance. it was a school dance competition and you were determined to win. usually placed second, you were determined to help your school win first place this year round.

while practicing and fixing your mistakes, you see a head peaking into the studio through the door. you looked at the disturbance through the mirror, raising an eyebrow before walking towards the door. just as you did, the figure runs away.

you peak out of the studio, looking up and down the hallways for the mysterious figure but you could not find anyone.

weird, you thought before you returned back to practice.

this happened multiple times for the next few weeks. where you will notice someone looking at you dance but runs away before you even get the chance to figure out who it was.

one day however, when you saw the figure again, you immediately went to the door, opening it to find the culprit but again, the figure disappears. you were so sure that you were hallucinating at that point when you looked down and saw a tiny box on the floor.

picking it up, there was a tiny note and a keychain of a dog in the box. you read the note, chuckling to yourself.

‘hey you !! amazing dancer !! we should collab together one day :)) i’m kim gyuvin, text me !!!’

lifetime 613 . .

“no! we need to get this dog food! it’s the only one eumppappa eats!”

“but it’s way too expensive!”

you and gyuvin were out grocery shopping together, trying to finish your errands before the weekend passes by. the both of you have been happily married for a little over a year now, so now your usual weekends were spent by trying to finish up errands and household chores.

“okay, how about this,” gyuvin thinks of a solution. “let’s take one box of what eumppappa usually eats and another box of whatever you want. if she likes mine better, we will only get that from now on. if she likes yours better, i am sending her to the vet for a checkup.”

you playfully hit your husband’s shoulder. he laughs at you, putting the two different boxes of dog food into the cart. “i’m kidding,” he smiled sheepishly. “but we will see which eumppappa likes better. she obviously loves me more.”

you shook your head, disagreeing. “she loves me more!”

by now, the two of you were bickering in the middle of the aisle of pet supplies about which parent your dog loves more. eventually, you carried on with your groceries, getting the things you really need, and by that, meaning you disagreeing on whatever gyuvin wanted to get that wasn’t on the list.

you stare at your husband while he decides which packet of chips would taste better. you feel content with life. you were merely shopping with gyuvin, finishing an errand with him. but yet, why did you feel so happy? it was a normal everyday task. how did grocery shopping suddenly made you so happy?

“i can feel you staring,” gyuvin says, walking back to you and putting a packet of chips into the cart. “my face is hard to resist, right?”

you rolled your eyes. “as if.”

you stared at gyuvin a little longer while he walks off to get other items. you realised why you felt so happy grocery shopping.

you were grocery shopping with gyuvin, and doing anything with him makes you unbelievably content and happy. it was a simple task, but doing it with gyuvin made it a hundred times better.

in every lifetime, you were in love with gyuvin. and gyuvin was in love with you.

and nothing could change that.
