I've put this on twitter and bluesky as well, but longer version for my tumblr besties: with the continued enshittification of twitter and growing fascism on that platform, I continue to search for a good alternative to the heyday of dice twitter. there's nothing really like it out there! so much energy for creatives and creators, so many cool new ideas and things and methods, and so much love within the ttrpg community overall. as a die-hard tumblr user, it's perfect for what it is, it just isn't a replacement for what twitter was circa 2020 for dice stuff. it's really not adaptable to giveaways or other time-limited info. on the other hand, I get a huge thrill from seeing one of my dice sets get traction out of nowhere because someone decided to share it over a year after it was posted. that's amazing! and yet, the search for a platform that approximates the energy of old twitter continues.

I don't have a good answer. I'm on bluesky, but no videos makes showing off dice harder. I've considered tiktok but it seems...difficult. I hate insta and won't use threads on principle. I have accounts on cohost and hive under the same name but they're not very active. I think I should just make like...a blog. idk.

to top it all off, mailchimp bought tinyletter (my newsletter service) and then closed it in february. I moved my service over to mailchimp for now (again, maybe a blog?? I think I can do a newsletter via wordpress?? idk, I'm trying to learn the entire human body, y'all, learning a new platform feels like 1 thing too many), and I'd really love it if you signed up. I'm hoping to get enough people there that I can run giveaways and updates just via email. link if you're interested.

I've been feeling so emotionally dead and finally figured out it's because I hadn't made anything in over a month and I require regular creation to survive. well. hmmm. this certainly explains why all of my attempts to print new dice have failed so dramatically. HUGE thanks to the dice maker discord for helping me figure it out - it's not the screen itself, but the glass panel UNDER the screen, so I never thought to check with the projector on. hopefully I can RMA the whole thing and get a functional printer set up asap.

Hi!! Absolutely love those last dice you posted. I saw ​you use ethanol as well as water and glycerin in the liquid core? What role does that play? Your work’s gorgeous!!

hey! I actually use isopropyl (got lazy in my tags/write etoh for school a lot and it's what came out, whoops) - but it's for a little better visual clarity. my usual mix is around 4:4:1 water:gylcerin:isopropyl (tbh I eyeball it most of the time, but that's in a very familiar mixing cup so I'm usually around that ratio), and I find the glycerin can make the liquid a little cloudy when it gets cold. the alcohol helps, though since the density is less than water I don't like to use too much. I don't think there's any harm skipping it and haven't done much side by side testing, so it may be superfluous, but I have a ton of the stuff anyway so I figure there's no harm.

it's been overcast and rainy for over a week, and I'm in my hardest block of school so far, so I had to make something aggressively cheerful for balance.

fresh pull from earlier this week, a little fall leaf vibes.

video is a d20 being rotated with the rest of the set in the background. it's made of clear resin with black/red holographic glitter and heavy swirls of gold mica and copper/pink mica.

at the renaissance faire a couple of weeks ago, there was this cute stall with potion bottles that were glitter in liquid with cute descriptive tags. my gut reaction was "oh I can make that" followed by "liquid core dice when???" so here we are. this chonk is clear glittery resin around a liquid core made approximately the same way as those potions: there's an artificial plant and a few different glitters plus a touch of mica. the mica here is a bronze/aqua colour shift that does eventually precipitate to the bottom of the die, leaving a clearish liquid and the plant visible, like a river settling after the silt has been disturbed. fresh pull, wip.

some blog maintenance - I'm adding a cipher dice archive tag to everything that's here as a photo archive, because I'm going to start posting more wip dice. almost a year post twitter implosion and a) it's worse than ever, b) everyone is scattered, and c) there's no clear successor site. I'm lucky in a lot of ways (med school starting overlapped with this, so I'm not making as many dice and not relying on that income), but it really sucks to know there were like 3.5k people who liked my dice and about 3k of them are just...gone. I'm so glad you're here with me, and I want to have a place to show off my wip stuff still, so maybe tumblr can become that.
