HOW TO NUDES 101 : ANGLE & FRAMING

Hello folks! Welcome to part 2 of the How to Nudes tutorials, this time with a focus on the basics of angle and framing. For today I picked one pose, one spot, in natural light, and I took a few photos...

The first one is what is called a "high angle" shot, taken from above me looking down, giving the impression of towering over the subject. You'll notice it also makes my chest look a bit flatter (this effect is heightened if you don't have giant tits btw) and gives a more pronounced curve to the band of my underwear - this accentuates my hips and belly.

The second one is a "neutral angle" shot, straight on, perpendicular to the floor - this give a more direct view of my overall shape, without accentuating one part or another. It doesn't imply or suggest a power dynamic like the other two.

The third one is a "low angle" shot, taken from below looking up - this puts the viewer in a submissive position. The volume of my chest is highlighted and the band of my underwear looks like a straight line, aligning it with my shoulders and giving my overall silhouette a more "masculine" squareness.

Depending on how you angle your camera, your shape will appear different and you'll place the viewer in a different position compared to you - keep this in mind when you place it.

Then I want to talk about the rule of thirds. When framing a photo, you generally want to place points of "interest" or "focus" on lines that separate the three vertical thirds or three horizontal thirds of your photo - preferably at an intersection of those lines.

Don't worry I made some visual help.

As you can see on the right, I cropped the picture so that the left side of my body follows almost exactly the separation between the first two vertical thirds, and so that my nipple was almost on the intersection of two lines. Those are the spots you want to be looking for.

Now if we out the same overlay on the first three photos...

You'll see they follow the same rule, even though the same elements aren't in the same spot from picture to picture.

The rule of thirds is just a good base to start experimenting, as are low and high angles. Try things out! Have fun!! And I'll see you next time.

HOW TO NUDES 101 : LIGHTING

Hi folks! Today with my first mini-introduction to taking nice nudes, a focus on lighting.

I want to demonstrate that you can make a huge difference with just a desk lamp, so I'll be using untouched photos taken with my phone camera and just my tiny reading lamp.

First, here is the photo with my normal ceiling lamp on

The direction of the light (overhead) creates kind of boring, unflattering shadows - you can see my face and chin creating a shadow on my neck, the shadow of my breasts taking away from my waist... And it makes the photo look flat. All in all, ceiling lamps are not great.

For the next three, I turned off the ceiling light and turned on my reading light - and I pointed it at the white wall next to me. This allows the wall to act as a reflector - it diffuses the light and creates much softer shadows, highlighting details and giving a lot more dimension to the pictures.

The difference between them was the orientation of the lamp - in the first one it was aimed towards the wall behind me, in the second one it was towards the wall directly next to me, and in the third one the wall in front of me. here are some shitty doodles to help you visualize.

In general, diffusing light is a good idea, but! you can also play around with harsher light, by aiming your light source directly at you!

In the first example, I placed the lamp in front of me and aimed it at me - in the second one, I placed it between my legs and aimed it upwards. The first picture suffers from a similar problem as the one with the ceiling lamp - it's a little flat. The second one is a better showcase of how you can highlight shapes by using it more directionally.

Finally in the category of harsher lights, we have the backlight (or rimlight when it's softer)

This creates a silhouette effect, it highlights different spots and ends up showing different details, for example here on my legs and the side of my chest.

Tip for people with dark skin! Harsh lights will erase a lot of the details and contrast in your skin tone, since a dark background will make you seem overexposed. On another hand, backlights and rim lights will look especially good with darker skin, because it accentuates the silhouetting of the subject.

All in all, experiment, have fun, try placing your lamp in different spots and see how you like your spotlight!
