was this an early feature or something? or something that was only accessible if you only used Speedchat? cause I recall Speedchat being a thing (along with "best friends" or... whatever that was called) but I definitely spent my time on Toontown being able to freely talk to people. like, there were district-wide crowds of people freely talking or advertising services or games or whatever. even Toontown Rewritten nowadays seems to work on the exact same chat filter that original Toontown did, but with a few exceptions iirc

either way this experience was not universal. I played Toontown for YEARS and now play Toontown Rewritten and have never once just been... unable to freely chat with people. I'm pretty sure that people on only Speedchat can't see normal chat, but in that case I guess users on Toontown were just operating in entirely different worlds then. guess you guys didn't know the thrill of being banned on Toontown for Warrior Cat Violence

one of my favorite things about toontown has and always will be the nicknames you/your toon gets strictly based on the chat filter. your toon’s name is tetra? everyone calls you tetris now because that’s what the filter accepts.

remember back in tto where cog buildings were like, a once in a blue moon thing in toontown central and when one appeared (especially if not specifically like a 3+ story one or so) there’d be a Huge crowd of people around it while people try to beat it
