Weekend Style
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spending the weekend at the lake, and I wanted to quickly share yesterdays outfit details! We went to dinner last night, and I of course brought my trusty blue and white scarf. I'm telling you there is nothing like it when you go out to eat. I HATE being cold in restaurants, or worrying if I'm flashing someone as I bend over to pick up the spoon kai threw.. HA HA. Bonus points for matching with every outfit this summer!
I've had these jeans since last summer and never wore them because I felt a little self conscious, and now that I'm finally feeling better... I'm going to wear them all. the. time.
So many of you reached out saying they were surprised that a wide leg would make your legs look longer, and I've got to say I think some of that is contributed to the super cute high waist. I first saw these on Song of Style, and I knew if someone cute and petite could rock them, then I needed to try!
These shoes are also the highlight of my life right now. I got them for my birthday last month and I was shocked how comfortable and easy they are to wear. You all know I'm a flats gal through and through, so even a slight block heel was a commitment for me. To my absolute delight, they ended up being so perfect and easy so that makes me HAPPY :)
Anyways, I'm going to enjoy the weekend here with my friends and family. My cell service is on the rocks out here though, so if I'm not sharing as much on my Instagram thats why!
I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!
xx

We understand the value of collaboration is cross-promotion, which is why we encourage all of our attendees to submit freely. We keep everything under wraps until we have the green light from them or publishers in the event of a feature to avoid cannibalizing being accepted by other blogs.

Look for Less: Barefoot Dreams Cozychic Cardigan
Tumblr media
Thanks to reader @elisechristine91 for sharing this find with us via #budgetbabefinds on Instagram (see it in real life)! A few days ago I was complaining about the heat (it was 91 here in Connecticut), but yesterday the temperature dropped and I was complaining about the cold! It only takes one chilly day to remind me what I'll really be living in the next 7 months or so: Soft, cozy sweaters!
Now, I've purchased the Barefoot Dreams cardigans in the past as gifts. And I'm always told it's the BEST. GIFT. EVER. So by all means, splurge on the real (they do go on sale!)
But for myself, I ordered two of these open-front fuzzy cardigans from Walmart.com for just $12.88 each. I got the gray and cream in medium and hope they wash and wear well. I'll report back once these arrive.
THE LOOK: Barefoot Dreams Cozychic Lite Coastal Cardigan, $126 at nordstrom.com
FOR LESS: Secret Treasures Essentials Sleep Bed Jacket, $12.88 at walmart.com

Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillon 10 Watch
Created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the collection, Harry Winston's Histoire de Tourbillon 10 once again pushes the boundaries of mechanical watchmaking. It's the first watch to pair four tourbillons with four balances, all visible under the synthetic sapphire dial. The tourbillons rotate once every 36 seconds, with a trio of differentials used to average out their slightly different rates and pass them on to the hour and minute hands. Its rectangular case measures 53.30mm wide, 39.10mm tall, and 17.60mm thick, and will be available in ten platinum examples, ten white gold examples, and a one-off model made from the company's proprietary "Winstonium" platinum alloy.

MY TOP PICKS FOR AMAZON PRIME DAY AND WHY YOU HAVE TO HAVE THEM
OMG YES PLEASE.
It’s Prime Day! It’s one of the best days of the year, & today we’re getting specific.
It’s like the Black Friday of summer & if you’ve been reading The Skinny Confidential for a while then you know I’m very much OBSESSED with Amazon.
Now – I’m someone who loves a great deal so I felt I had to share my top picks with you guys. It can be overwhelming so I wanted to do a round-up of my faves.
You can get some deep discounts on items you’re already using & items you’re ready to invest in. THEN put that extra money you save towards your business or a vacation, right? Even a facial or two. At least I would.
Before we get into this year’s deals, have you heard of TSC Master List?? If you haven’t let me explain:
You guys are always sharing the best ideas in TSC SECRET FB group, IG & Snapchat, so I figured it was time for us to have one spot for all of these genius recs.
Before we dive into TSC COMMUNITY MASTER LIST let’s take a step back and review the OG Master List. This is something I created to share my ride or die items. The products & things I’ve used day in & day out for years. Nothing sponsored, just BADASS PRODUCTS I LOVE. You can even listen to a podcast episode all about it so this list makes complete sense to you. It’s also why I started and.the.skinny.was.like. No B.S., just a bunch of standout products that I think everyone should have.
ANYWAY. Back to TSC COMMUNITY MASTER LIST.
What are the products & items that you just can’t live without? The items you use everyday that have made a difference in your life?
These are the items we want to hear about. What are your hero products?
This is a live doc for everyone in the community to share and connect. Add your favorite picks & get ideas from other women.
It’s SO simple.

+ open doc by clicking HERE + choose a category at the BOTTOM of the doc ( wellness, home, food, tech, etc. ) + write the item name in column A and add the link to column B + keep adding all of your favorites
Ok let’s get into my 5 top picks for this year’s Prime Day….
BOSE HEADPHONES:
Michael & I always talk about these. They are the best. They seriously drown out all the background noise so he can go to sleep while I work in bed ( work in progress over here ), or watch Real Housewives. Why these are amazing….
♡ Three levels of world-class noise cancellation for better listening experience in any environment.
♡ Alexa-enabled for voice access to music, information, and more.
♡ Noise-rejecting dual-microphone system for clear sound and voice pick-up.
♡ Balanced audio performance at any volume.
♡ Hassle-free Bluetooth pairing, personalized settings, access to future updates, and more through the Bose Connect app.
NESPRESSO:
We recently got a Nespresso maker in the office & it has truly been life changing. If you follow and.the.skinny.was.like you will see that I am always talking about how to achieve the perfect coffee at home. The Nespresso is my go-to for latte making. Sometimes when Michael wants to walk to get coffee, I will make an espresso with this first & then walk with him to the cafe to get some steps in.
PORTABLE CHARGER:
WHY I LIKE THIS CHARGING PACK: it’s small & tiny. VERY EFFICIENT. Perfect & I mean PERFECT for travel. It’s very blogger-friendly, if you know what I mean. Ideal for Instagrams. It’s chic & plain so you can decorate it with stickers if you want. Warning: you will never go back to calling an Uber on 2% after this, sorry in advance. This will be attached to your hip like your phone. Like can’t breath without it, ya know? ( more details about why I love charging packs here ).
AMAZON SHOW:
Ok so I keep one of these in the kitchen, its great for putting on music when my hands are full, also I use this to set timers in the kitchen, set the mood for an IG story, play a podcast while cooking, ect. You get it.  (mine is black but they just came out with the white, so I ordered that one instead!)
What are you guys shopping for Prime Day? Let everyone know in the comments, or better yet, head over to The Master List & add them!
+ check out my Amazon store here.
++ if you don’t know where to start, begin with my ride or dies & starter pack.

In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro  is talking about ways you can sabotage sexiness.
Stop Sabotaging Your Sexiness
1. Being an asshole and treating people poorly
2. You STINK! Too much cologne, too much body spray, your pits stink, you don't shower frequently enough, your balls are musky, your breath smells like ass. Your hygiene game is not on-point.
3. Wearing the same thing as all of your friends - you all look like mini clones of each other.
4. Wearing counterfeit name-brand gear
5. Not smiling at people and looking like you have a stick shoved up your ass
6. Not doing nice things for people
7. Not confident
CEASE the STINK! | Simple Steps to Stay Fresh & Sexy
Dollar Shave Club  is bringing you a deal right now that is absolutely cutting-edge amazing in terms of you being stinky. They have got you more than covered. Dollar Shave Club is so clean, it is ridiculous. And by clean, I'm talking they're gonna clean you from head to frickin’ toe.

ORAL CARE :: But get this - Dollar Shave Club also has stuff for your funky ass breath. The Superba toothbrush has a soft bristled brush, and the handle is incredible. It's exactly what you would expect from Dollar Shave Club - an amazing product. But the product that I absolutely was blown away by is their Superba ‘peppermint kick’ toothpaste. This stuff literally kicks you in the face with freshness.
SHAVE :: We can't talk about Dollar Shave Club amazingness without talking about their razor and the Dr. Carver Shave Butter. And their blades are super badass. If you've got a body, Dollar Shave Club has you covered. And the beautiful thing about the Dollar Shave Club is that the more you buy the more you save. It's kind of like their ‘handsomeness discount’.
Right now Dollar Shave Club is doing something incredibly cool. They've got three different box offers for $5 each. Tip of the Day 11/7
Volume 9   //   2017
When we started our 31 Days series, way back in 2009, it was an idea that began out of the natural tendency to see the new year as a restart of sorts. Each day, we put up a short tip or trick to help readers get a fresh start to the new year and step up their game. Then we did it again the next year and it's grown every year since, proving to be one of Valet.'s most popular series ever. This year, nearly a decade in, we've shifted the focus just a touch—narrowing in on skills and attributes we believe make you a better man. Little things that have a big, lasting impact on your life and the lives of those around you. Everyday this month, we'll introduce a topic or idea aimed at helping you look your best, feel great and be the civilized 21st century gentleman we all strive to be. Best of luck in 2017 and thanks for reading.

Naot Leveche Review: Walk a While in This Woven Wonder Bootie!
Naot Leveche
Naot Leveche booties provided by Naot. The opinions are completely our own based on experience.
When I first opened the box containing my new Naot Leveche ankle boots, my countenance dropped a little. My initial enthusiasm waned as I considered the criss-cross cut outs: was there too much going on? But once I slipped them on with my favorite pair of raw hem jeans, I got that Naot fangirl feeling back. These booties will go places this fall. I love them.
The Naot Leveche ankle boot kicks any basic outfit up a few notches with its criss-cross woven straps up the vamp. If you’re wondering if that’s my naked foot showing through the boot, it isn’t. Naot added a panel of soft stone-colored nubuck that shows through the woven upper. This feature allows the boot to be worn in colder weather. A diagonally set zipper and stacked one-inch heel with slight beveled edge add to the overall sleek appearance of the Naot Leveche.
Naot Leveche
Let’s talk about comfort. Naot footwear is handmade in northern Israel using the finest materials (read our in-depth brand review here). Their uniquely engineered insoles are a blend of natural latex and cork that are designed to replicate the shape of the foot. This is what I’ve come to know and love about Naot footwear and the Leveche is no exception. The footbed features moderate arch support, an indented heel cup, and is removable if you need to add your own orthotic. While I find the arch support noticeable, I know I’ll need a little more for days I’m on my feet. I removed the Naot insole and added my Tread Labs medium arch full-length insole (I like Tread Labs because they come in four arch heights and don’t take up much room in the forefoot of any shoe or boot). Even after adding an insole, I didn’t experience any slippage in the heel when walking.
Naot Leveche
The heel height of one inch is perfect for providing a little lift. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, you may know that a heel of around one-inch is recommended for taking strain off the fascia. While the toe box isn’t wide like that of a Dansko clog, it is rounded and roomy enough to accommodate small bunions on a slightly narrow to medium width foot. I wouldn’t recommend the Naot Leveche for wider feet.
Tumblr media
As far as fit, I find the european size 41 best fits my size 10 feet (I’m on the smaller side of 10). You may want to order up if you plan on wearing with your own orthotic. The Leveche is part of Naot’s Aura collection of dressier ankle boots. In fact, if you’re not into the woven details of the Leveche, check out the Naot Helm (basically the same boot without the cutouts).
Find the Naot Leveche ankle boot in black, amber and blue nubuck, sizes 35-42 (4-11) for $224.95 from Zappos, Nordstrom, and Shoes.com. If you need help finding a Naot retailer near you, call 1-800-NAOT-USA for assistance. Be sure to spray your new Naots with nubuck protector to protect them from elemental damage.

Emma Roberts Just Dyed Her Hair Brown Again, and Honestly, I Can’t Keep Up
Emma Roberts has changed her hair color yet again.
This time, she swapped out her previously blonde hair in favor of her natural brunette shade.
Emma Roberts is wearing me out. I mean, in addition to all her upcoming projects, her dating life, and her book club, how on earth am I supposed to keep up with her? Especially with all her hair changes?? Seriously, Emma, you’re killing me here (but I’m also living for it).
Today is the dawn of a new day where Emma has decided to depart from yet another hairstyle in favor of something bold and unexpected. If you look into her Instagram for the year, you’ll see that Emma has changed her hair not one, not two, but three—I repeat—three different times in 2019. And the year isn’t even over! Fall is coming up in two months, and at this rate, I am fully prepared for her to whip out another three new colors or cuts by the time we hit Thanksgiving.
For her latest change, Emma has gone back to her roots—literally. In a color change possibly done by her go-to hairstylist, Nikki Lee, Emma swapped out her usual blonde shade for a rich, chocolaty brown color. It’s an interesting choice considering that it’s officially summertime now, but hell, I’ll take it.
In May, which was literally two months ago, Emma attended the 2019 Met Gala. Her hair was one of her signature shades of sunrise blonde and was a few inches longer. Of course, it was an absolute ~lewk~ and complimented her floral hair accessories perfectly:
How is she even real??
Theo WargoGetty Images
Before that, Emma was brunette yet again and opted for a shoulder length and part down the middle. She went to Paris Fashion Week in March with the style and had me shook with how edgy she looked.
Insane!
Jacopo RauleGetty Images
Mind you, these hair changes don’t even count the previous years when Emma got a super-short bob cut, colored her hair bubblegum pink, or got baby bangs that one questionable time. But hey, we love a good hair change!

Two Ways: Green Velvet Jeans
I don’t often wear pants, but when I do, I want them to be special.  Basic black has its place, but what about an amazing pair of green velvet jeans to add to the rotation?  Here are two ways to wear this unique alternative to jeans.
J.Crew High-Rise Velvet Jeans ($110, 4 colors)
How great are these jeans?  Every time I look at them, I’m almost grateful fall is here.  Almost.  These jeans come in petite and tall sizes as well.
Let’s talk about styling.
Gorjana Kellen Studs ($20) // BR Supersoft V-neck Sweater ($78) // Everlane Day Market Tote ($170) // Boden Evie Flats ($119)
Business Casual.  For this outfit, I wanted a look that was casual and easy with pops of interest.  The green pants are certainly interesting, as are the leopard flats.  You could wear this to work on Friday or to a casual brunch on Sunday.  It would also be great on a plane if you needed to arrive looking fresh.
The sweater is from Banana Republic, and it is a great piece.  V-necks look great on almost everyone, and the hem dips slightly in the back for a flattering rear view.  The sweater is also a cotton-poly blend for softness, good for those with wool allergies.  BR has some fabulous basic sweaters this season (some are even machine washable); don’t miss out on the sale.
For the earrings, I chose a pair of studs with a little something extra.  I also like these Minkoff pyramid studs and these incredibly cool, not to be missed Baublebar huggie drops.  You can also add a long pendant necklace if you need a bit more sparkle.
The shoes are a great leopard flat from Boden that I’ve had my eye on for a while.  I love the preppy, modern look of them.  Need something without the buckle and strap?  Try Sam Edelman. If you’re looking for something similar for less, don’t miss these Steven slingbacks.
For the hair, I would probably jazz it up with a twisted chignon.  If not, I would buy one of these great round hair clips from Urban Outfitters, and do a slightly messy half-up/half-down.
Gorjana Sayulita Earrings ($35) // See by Chloe Lace Sleeve Tee ($159) // Milly Astor Ruffle Clutch ($120) // Addison Ankle Strap Shoe ($60)
Friday Night. I envisioned this outfit as the perfect choice for cocktails with friends.  You want to look good in case you run into someone, and because dressing up is fun, but you don’t want to overdo it.  A few fun pieces, but still a t-shirt in jeans.
I love these earrings.  They are impactful, but light enough that they don’t look heavy.  I’m just obsessed.  Want an even cheaper thrill?  These $20 tortoise chandelier earrings from Dillard’s are amazing.
This top is a t-shirt with a bell sleeve, and while bell sleeves are a bit last year, these lace ones make it more current.  Want a different option?  Try this awesome H&M lace blouse.  Plus-size?  This Worthington blouse is a nice piece.
For the accessories, I chose this fun clutch because I wanted something a bit different.  For a more modern look, try this suede and leather mix Ragna clutch or this $28 simple bar-clasp clutch.  And the shoes are a total Aquazurra knock-off, but they’re really chic.
I would wear a voluminous ponytail if you have longer hair.  For shorter hair, I would do a messy low bun.  For the makeup, I would bring in a deep berry lipstick.  I like a sheer stain like the Lipstick Queen Hello Sailor, but if you like more coverage, try this NYX suede lipstick.

6 Ways that Clothing Has Killed, From the New Fashion History Book "Killer Style"
From the book Killer Style: How Fashion Has Injured, Maimed and Murdered Through History by Alison Matthews David and Serah-Marie McMahon. Available April 15th, 2019.
Restrictive clothing, poisonous products, fake health trends, and unsafe working conditions have a long history of fashion victims. Here are just some of the ways fashion has been seriously dangerous for your health.
1. Death By White Lead Make-Up Ancient Romans were pretty creative with their skincare. They dabbed mixtures of chicken fat and onions onto pimples. They tried using the ashes of fish bones to remove freckles. And the crocodile excrement face mask was extremely popular. Compared to these concoctions a foundation made of lead, called ceruse, must have seemed downright tame.
To make it, lead was soaked in vinegar then dried, leaving a remarkably opaque white powder. Lead is one of the densest metals in existence, yet is soft, melts easily, and clings fantastically to skin. It feels smooth and shows color brightly. In other words, lead seemed like an ideal substance for cosmetics. For thousands of years ceruse was liberally applied to eyes, mouths, and skin. Ceruse may have given a smooth, blemish-free look, but it causes skin to age rapidly and erupts with sores. Which, of course, requires more ceruse to cover up these new imperfections. All the while, lead built up in bones and slowly destroyed nearly every organ system in the body.
Even once these side effects were well known, ceruse remained popular for centuries. When Queen Elizabeth I was twenty-nine years old, she survived smallpox noticeably scarred. For the rest of her life, she painted a thick layer of ceruse on her face, neck, and hands—a practice many believe hastened her demise in 1603.
2. Death by Tight Skirt
Tumblr media
Sack-race for hobble-skirt wearers or “La course d’entravées,” Illustrated London News, August 13, 1910. Collection of Alison Matthews David
In 1908, Edith Berg was the first woman to fly in a plane. But when she climbed aboard the Wright Brothers’ Flyer, its open-air cockpit meant her large skirt was sure to fly up in her face. Undeterred, she grabbed a length of twine and tied it around her knees.
The unusual silhouette of the last-minute fix became a hot trend. Women started wearing narrow skirts cinched at the knees or even the ankles. Because it effectively shackled its wearers, the new dress shape was named after a device used to keep animals from running away: the hobble.
The style made for a stunted saunter. In 1910 at a Paris racecourse, a horse (which ironically wasn’t properly hobbled) escaped and bolted into a crowd of spectators. One woman, slowed down by her fashionable hobble skirt was unable to get out of the way in time and was tragically trampled to death. The next year, the hobble skirt of an eighteen-year-old girl caused her to trip while stepping over a gate on a bridge, and she fell into the icy water below. It turned out the hobble wasn’t very good for swimming either. She drowned.
3. Death By Flannelette Pajamas
Tumblr media
Perkin’s Non-Flam flannelette has only a tiny burn at the hem after 2 minutes, whereas ordinary flannelette has been almost completely incinerated in half the time (60 seconds), fold-out leaf in Fire Tests with Textiles: The Committee’s Report, British Fire Prevention Committee, 1910. Wellcome Library, London.
Wellcome Images
In the late Victorian era it was widely believed warmth could cure illness. Flannel manufacturers, wanting to capitalize on the textile’s ability to preserve body heat, claimed it had actual healing properties. But real flannel was expensive. In 1877 they started producing a brushed cotton that felt like flannel yet was much cheaper to make. They christened it flannelette. Now, they could make even more money selling this fake health trend to folks who could not afford the real thing.
Except flannel is made of a tightly woven wool, which is an animal protein and virtually fireproof. Flannelette, on the other hand, is soft, fluffy, made from plant fiber and instantly flammable. Working-class homes relied on open fire for both heating and cooking, and typical cramped quarters meant kids in their cozy flannelette pajamas were usually no more than a few feet from open flame. Over a five-year period, 1,816 children caught fire and died in flannelette in England alone. Young boys’ pajama styles were fitted, which significantly decreased their chances of catching fire. Girls were less lucky. Their loose, layered dresses provided a perfect fuse, and three-quarters of the victims were girls.

5 Stylish Ways To Wear The Fleece Trend
Since when has fleece been cool? Like many of the current trends permeating fashion (ugly trainers spring to mind), you probably wouldn’t have been seen dead wearing fleece just a few years ago. Now, it’s everywhere.
Once reserved for hikers, bird watchers and teachers on school trips, fleece is today just as likely to be seen on streetwear kids as it is in the après-ski lodge. Naturally, it’s incredibly warm and works as a layering piece come winter. Oh, and it’s possible for it to look good too.
What Is Fleece?
The greatest appeal of fleece has always been its warmth, despite being incredibly light in weight. An entirely man-made fabric, it’s derived from plastic – polyester fibres are woven tightly together and then brushed to create a pile-like surface. Not only does this give it a soft, textured feel, it also helps with fleece’s heat-retention and moisture-resistance – air pockets are trapped between the fibres meaning the heat generated by your body stays put.

Urban Outfitters
This is why fleece has always been popular in the great outdoors. In fact, that trusty American wilderness brand that everyone’s now wearing, Patagonia, was behind the creation of fleece back in the 80s. The idea was to improve on wool – nature’s best, sure, but often itchy and incredibly heavy when wet.
Patagonia’s fleece, dubbed Synchilla, was an immediate hit and would become sustainable in 1993, when the brand started producing it out of plastic bottles. (It’s worth noting that not all fleece is made from recycled materials though – some require the use of raw petroleum and arguably all release micro-plastics when washed, which can ultimately end up in the world’s oceans.)
How To Wear Fleece
Fleece has seen a sharp incline in popularity, but why are people flocking to it? Much of its current appeal can be attributed to the nineties revival and the general feeling of nostalgia surrounding it. Light-wash jeans, chunky trainers, colour-blocked anoraks and fleece – they’ve all had big years and they all stem from that decade.

Uniqlo
It’s fleece’s compatibility with a wide range of outfits that appeals most today though. Yes, it was born on the walking trail, but it’s also at home on the street. Olie Arnold, Mr Porter style director hints at its versatility: “Fleece jackets are perfectly suited to the current outerwear trend and are easily incorporated into a streetwear look alongside tapered cargo trousers and hiking boots. Alternatively, layer your fleece over a winter-weight shirt with your favourite pair of slim-fit jeans or chinos for a relaxed weekend look.”
To understand just how far fleece has come, head to Savile Row. Brands such as Gieves & Hawkes, tailors famous for their bespoke suits, are now proprietors of the furry style, too. “The idea came from the commuters on my train really,” says Gieves brand creative director John Harrison. “The fleece was worn with a formal trouser and shirt, but no jacket. I thought a GH fleece would be a great intermediate item. It can be dressed up a bit but mainly it is a warm layer, on its own or under a lighter coat.”
Colour Blocking
Tumblr media
ASOS
A fleece jacket is a great way of injecting a playful dash of colour into a look. There are many pattered examples available but our favourites adopt a ski-inspired look with colour blocking. Look for fleece panels in contrasting shades – blue and red is a good shout – and pair with neutral chinos or pale jeans and Converse for an easy off-duty look.
Oversize Layering
Tumblr media
Urban Outfitters
Oversized silhouettes are dominating outerwear offerings at the moment, and fleece jackets are no exception. Look for something collared – an overshirt, perhaps – and layer over a hoodie. You’ll get all the warmth of a larger coat yet no bulk – perfect for transitional weather. For ultimate comfort go for tapered joggers and a pair of runners down below.
As A Vest
Tumblr media
River Island
When a full jacket is too much a fleece vest is a good option. You’ll get all the fibre’s warmth on your mid-section but with added freedom of movement in the arms – think of it as a more playful take on the down gilet, which can make you look like an off-duty hedge funder.
Minimal
Tumblr media
Urban Outfitters
One of the easiest ways of wearing fleece is as part of a minimal look. Pick a jacket in an inoffensive colour jacket and give it room to breathe by pairing it with simple pieces such as a white tee and navy chinos. Go for a classic zip-up pullover and let the fleece fabric work its magic in the cold.
Chunky Outerwear
Tumblr media
Urban Outfitters
With its voluminous proportions and tactile finish, fleece is arguably at its best when it’s a statement piece. The fabric is naturally a little showy, reminiscent as it is of sheepskin or fur, so embrace it. Go down the chunky route with a thick or slightly padded fleece jacket and say goodbye to the cold forever. Wear with equally robust staples such as corduroy trousers, a roll neck and white trainers and you’ll be onto a winner.
The Key Brands For Fleece
Patagonia
This is the grandaddy of all fleece jacket brands, and is perhaps the only one you need to invest in. Patagonia’s been dominating the game since its Snap-T pullover which dropped in 1985 and was made of the firm’s fabled Synchilla (synthetic chinchilla) fabric – it was the go-to choice for explorers of the era. Today the brand’s heritage translates to street appeal and all the details are still apparent in its latest creations – a buttoned chest pocket is perfect for storing a mobile phone.

A Burgundy Velvet Wedding Any Fall Bride Will Love
ALL.THE.HEART.EYES. This plum and burgundy velvet wedding is making our hearts pitter-patter and we can’t help but pin tirelessly. The beautiful details go on for days and we love how Jill and Kyle weaved their personalities and likes into their wedding day, including their love for the night sky and how they decided to go for a night time ceremony + embed celestial details throughout their day.
We’ve seen why couples love nighttime weddings as also seen in this Australian wedding – you don’t have to be Neil deGrasse Tyson to love twinkling stars, so it’s not a surprise nighttime weddings are becoming a fave!
From the bride, Jill: I’m in love with all things fall, and I wanted our day to be seasonal, moody, and romantic. I could not settle on a specific palette or theme, so Caroline’s (of Mustard and Fig) electric approach to design was perfect, and she crafted the perfect blend of jewel tones and Autumn. She also hand-made, designed, painted, crafted, almost every detail to our wedding – I never had to worry about my big day because she was always two steps ahead of me!
My first stop for a venue was Harrington Farm in Central Ma and it was also my last. The feeling of that gigantic white barn and old Inn overlooking rolling hills of the autumn leaves was like magic. My then husband-to-be Kyle and I looked over at one another and said ‘this is it’. The next week we booked it for a Saturday evening in October. We worked with a woman named Jess and she was fantastic. She was so warm and inviting and extremely informative and accessible during the whole process! I had so much fun working with Kyle, Jess, and Caroline to carefully make catering, layout, and timeline decisions.
I knew I wanted mix-and-match bridesmaid dresses, but it was difficult to find different dresses, in different styles, in different colors that “worked”. Then, my designer, Caroline, recommended a company called Coralie Beatrix. They specialize in dresses that can be wrapped hundreds of ways – it was just was I was looking for to make sure all the bridesmaids felt comfortable and beautiful. They were wonderful to work with and sent tons of color swatches so that we could select the jewel tone palette that melded perfectly with our wedding vision!
For flowers we worked with Krissy from Boston Pollen whose work is breathtaking. I knew I wanted to focus on Dahlias and rich deep red tones, and she exceeded my expectations. From the bouquets and boutonnieres, to the out-of-this world ceremony arch, I cannot recommend her enough!
We wanted our cake to fit into our eclectic, moody, Autumn theme, so I hired Aunty Ellen’s Creative Confections to make our cake. She crafted a stunning, and delicious, three tier “naked” red velvet cake adorned with a Dia de los Muertos couple, and flowers from Pollen. It was one of my favorite things from that day!
Our wedding day was the perfect golden and sunny day which left a warmth in the air for our twilight ceremony. The sun had just went down when the ceremony started. My dad and I walked down to a beautifully flowered archway to the Beatles, “Blackbird”, surrounded by our loved ones. It was like a dream. My friend Kristen performed the ceremony and did a flawless job. Kyle and I wrote our own vows, and Kyle surprised everyone including me by reading a poem he wrote. I tried not to cry so just kept laughing nervously – I knew I was doing the right thing marrying this guy. We took pictures earlier in the day and got to see all our guests at cocktail hour. Our reception was a non-stop party, and we danced the night away. The rest they say is history! We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding! – Jill, the bride
From the planner and stylist: Mustard and Fig: This wedding was such a pleasure for us to design. It’s a saturated and luxurious palette, Autumnal elements, and thoughtful touches, made Jill and Kyle’s day one of our all-time favorites. From hand-lettered signs and custom paper goods to individually velvet-tied pumpkins and the 8ft moon photo booth, each detail was meticulously crafted to reflect the couple’s eclectic style. Even more special was working with Jill and Kyle. Their love for each other constantly reminded us why we do this in the first place! From our very first meeting, Jill and Kyle expressed that they wanted their wedding to be undoubtedly them – they wanted the day to feel personal, warm, and like everyone was family. Our vendor team was a dream, and we had so much fun working with some of New England’s best! Our favorite part of the day was the ceremony – Jill and Kyle love the night sky and wanted a twilight ceremony. It was lit by candlelight and truly beautiful. Overall, the day was thoughtful, joyful, and undoubtedly Jill and Kyle!

Laura Bailey’s Pear Compote
Laura is a wonderful friend from my early New York days, whom I met when we were both in our twenties. We shared so many formative experiences together—Sunday morning trips to the flea market, fretting over boyfriend issues, and going to our first fashion shows, both of us thrilled and intimidated. She was even a bridesmaid in my wedding to Christopher. Laura now lives in England, too, which has brought us to a whole new, more grown-up chapter in our friendship.
One weekend, when I went to visit her country house, she gave me homemade Pear Compote from fruit grown in her orchard. I’d never had Pear Compote before and it sat in my pantry for a few months before I felt inspired to open it. When I finally did, I poured a few spoonfuls of it over sheep’s milk yogurt and Ottolenghi granola and was instantly hooked. At last, I had found something delicious to do with the abundance of pears that ripen in our farmyard each early summer. I now consider Pear Compote a Fairgreen Farm perennial.
INGREDIENTS
Makes six 8-ounce jars
2 pounds pears, peeled, cored, and diced
(weight measured after chopping)
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
HOW TO
Bring everything to a boil for 10 minutes and then simmer slowly for 60–90 minutes, until the pears are soft. Blast them with a hand blender until the texture is smooth. Pour the mixture into sterilized jars and seal. Simmer in a pan of water for 30 minutes.

1 Easy Tip That Keeps All My House Plants Alive
I am a firm believer in plants.  House plants in particular – the more the better!  Years ago I felt like my house was missing something, some life…  I had plenty of color, but was lacking plants.  As soon as I started adding house plants, my spaces just felt more home-y, more welcoming, more fresh (imagine that!).
I’m also a huge fan of flowers, but I don’t splurge on them often because they feel like a luxury to me – they are so beautiful, but don’t last for too long, and are kinda pricey.  So house plants fill that void for me and provide a less expensive, longer lasting option.
But how do you/I have a ton of house plants and not kill them?  I have a secret for you that has kept my plants alive and well, some for several years!
It’s not a special fertilizer or repotting (although I really need to do that on many of my plants outgrowing their homes), or playing calming music for them (ha!).
Its way easier…
Ice.  Yep, ice.
A friend mentioned this tip to me years ago because I was tired of moving all my plants to my sink to water (and drain), or ruining my furniture because I was too lazy/forgetful to put a tray under the plants to catch drips.
This makes watering the plants (we call it icing the plants) super easy for the kids to do, also.
Depending on the size of the plant, they get 3-7 or so ice cubes.  The best part: the ice melts so slowly that the water doesn’t drip through.  Now I will say that most of my plants have liners under them (I often wrap foil on the bottom of the plastic pot plants come in) or some sort of drip tray just in case, but I never have the issue of overflow like I used to when the kids or I would water the plants before.
The smaller plants get about 3 cubes, and the big ones, like the fiddle leaf figs, get 7 or more.  I should also note that our ice cubes are kind of big.
A lot of my plants have moss on top (I was tired of looking at the dirt), so the ice goes under the moss, otherwise too much of it evaporates before getting to the soil.
We also try to put the ice just on the soil and not leaning against the stem of the plant.  I have no basis for why I do this, other than I feel like the frozen ice cube might do some damage to a more fragile plant?
This ice technique hasn’t worked well with succulents for me.  I tend to just water them lightly occasionally – I’m still learning.  I can keep succulents growing for years outside, but they are more fickle inside for me.
I also find really delicate plants, like maiden hair ferns, to be really hard to keep alive.  I over water or under water… I don’t know!  But all my other plants have done really really well using this technique!
Every once in awhile I will put my plants in the sink (like once a year) and give them a “bath” – spraying them to get dust off.  And every couple months I’ll take a barely damp rag and wipe down my fiddle leaf fig leaves because they catch a lot of dust.
But other than that, just using ice has kept them alive!  My guess is that its partly due to the slow drip of the ice melting.  Whatever the reason, I know it works, I’m going to keep doing it!
Have you ever tried “icing” your plants?
