what is something niche you are opinionated about?
if you wanted the absolute most niche topic I can talk about for hours, you could say that I have very strong opinions on how people are refusing to learn from the game design innovations that have been made in eroge in the past 30 years
sometimes you see a game come up with an absolutely unhinged system and it just never comes up in anything because there's an entire lineage of independent rpg design that nobody takes seriously because the game also has sex in it. it drives me a little insane.

Years and years ago, I read a book on cryptography that I picked up because it looked interesting--and it was!
But there was a side anecdote in there that stayed with me for more general purposes.
The author was describing a cryptography class that they had taken back in college where the professor was demonstrating the process of "reversibility", which is a principle that most codes depend on. Specifically, it should be easy to encode, and very hard to decode without the key--it is hard to reverse the process.
So he had an example code that he used for his class to demonstrate this, a variation on the Book Code, where the encoded text would be a series of phone numbers.
The key to the code was that phone books are sorted alphabetically, so you could encode the text easily--picking phone numbers from the appropriate alphabetical sections to use ahead of time would be easy. But since phone books were sorted alphabetically, not numerically, it would be nearly impossible to reverse the code without exhaustively searching the phone book for each string of numbers and seeing what name it was tied to.
Nowadays, defeating this would be child's play, given computerized databases, but back in the 80s and 90s, this would have been a good code... at least, until one of the students raised their hand and asked, "Why not just call the phone numbers and ask who lives there?"
The professor apparently was dumbfounded.
He had never considered that question. As a result, his cipher, which seemed to be nearly unbreakable to him, had such an obvious flaw, because he was the sort of person who could never coldcall someone to ask that sort of thing!
In the crypto book, the author went on to use this story as an example of why security systems should not be tested by the designer (because of course the security system is ready for everything they thought of, by definition), but for me, as a writer, it stuck with me for a different reason.
It's worth talking out your story plot with other people just to see if there's a "Why not just call the phone numbers?" obvious plot hole that you've missed, because of your singular perspective as a person. Especially if you're writing the sort of plot where you have people trying to outsmart each other.

i need to speak my truth. keiichi's house is so fucking ugly i cannot stand looking at it. why is it a three story triangle. this shit looks like something i made in the sims. the siding is three foot tall vinyl slats. this shit looks like a compound a trad-mormon household would make in rural minnesota and get raided by police for containing unlicensed firearms. thank you higurashi for saying in text that this was fresh construction designed by keiichi's dad to fit his studio so i can place the blame on an individual for this japanese mcmansion

Toska of the Rin, since the version of FSN we're getting in English is the Realta Nua release, is there anything especially important that is lost between RN and the Original?
besides some preferences along the lines of the music (I like a few of the original release tracks more than the remakes), it can mostly be bullet-pointed
shirou and rin have mediocre sex because they're bad at communicating. their sex scenes are, canonically, disappointing to both of them. this comes up in hollow ataraxia, but is mostly important to know because it's characterising
while it's not sex in the realta nua version, it's worth noting that the movies, manga adaptation, and general periphery canon more or less confirm that the removed scenes from heaven's feel are closer to current canon than their replacements
in general, I'd say heaven's feel is the only route which unambiguously has to be understood as censored, which makes sense because it's explicitly about abuse. you can pretty safely pick and choose if you want to believe certain scenes happened otherwise

what percentage of your followers have ever played even one single eroge. if you had to guess.
well, we're on tumblr, and that means I have a lot of followers who are furries (I'd say about 25% of them, maybe?) and eroge are pretty common in that space
I'd say 20-40% of my followers would consider themselves to have played an eroge with that prompting, and if you explained what counts as an eroge, that number would probably approach just over half
this is also kind of relying on a definition of eroge as "games which are focused on sex and advertised as such" because the alternative is that we use the actual definition and acknowledge that nearly all of my followers have played at least one eroge
