Mycroft Holmes Drabble: Him being stunned by your casual kindness

Just recently you had moved into the flat below the one John and his brother lived in. You seemed superficially informed about what they were up to, but that might just be playing pretend in order to gain information.

Living in this close proximity to his brother Mycroft had your background checked without any suspicious results that would catch his attention. For now, he would accept you to be the clueless new neighbor without even meeting you. He didn’t need to with the government’s resources.

He never would have thought that despite the background check he would find himself surprised by you.

He didn’t intend to run into you, he just happened to enter the house the same time you had stepped out into the hallway as you were about to leave.

Your eyes had widened, and without any big thought or intend you said-

„Good morning. That’s a nice suit, it looks good on you.“ Before flashing him a curious smile and walking past him out of the door.

He stood there for a moment, his hands trailing over the fabric of his suit as he comprehended this unforeseen compliment. Whenever he was about to get a compliment it was as obvious as the strategic intend behind it, often coming from coworkers or people who wished to influence his decisions on their matters.

You didn’t have any idea who he was nor what power he held, he was a complete stranger to you in the moment you just followed your brief impression of him and complimented him.

It.. was surprising indeed, and it had something so authentic to it that he appreciated. Maybe he should look into these files of yours himself after all- not because you were suspicious but because he felt the urge to understand more about the person he just met.

Next time he saw you wouldn‘t be incidental.
