I was confused about this before but it turns out there is a SECOND Hekja in the game! Also a Norn, but this one is a Lionguard and has a last name: Ravensbeak. Though interestingly the image file as saved on the GW2 Wiki says "Lionguard Hester".
This of course got me thinking about naming conventions among the different races and which names would be common and/or which historical/religious names would be favoured. How many Norn girls get named Jora? Are there a bunch of little Snaffs running around Rata Sum? Baby Ruriks in Queensdale?
At one point in my life I literally knew six different Amandas (Amandae? Amandii?) and like I wonder how that sort of thing would manifest in Tyria.
How does Sylvari naming work? Do they choose their own names? Does the Pale Tree name them? Do they know their own names before they're born?
I like to think Charr have an official name registry like they do in Hungary, and cub names have to be picked from it, new names being added by petition. It would actually make a certain sort of sense given the communal child rearing in the fahrar.
Anyway I'm a nerd but for some reason I'm kinda tickled by the idea that Hekja might actually be a common Norn name and my girl is like the Amanda of the Norns.

I think often about the fact that I, an asura, have a whole body mass that is approximately equivalent to one of my charr friend's forelimbs.
Imagine twelve or thirteen asura standing on each other's heads, wearing furs and a trenchcoat attempting to pass themselves off as a single charr. I'm sure they'd have a good reason.

I don’t mean to alarm anyone but Midona’s entire hairdo is pretty much half a whole Trahearne in size, if not a bit more.
…. that’s all I really had to say.

the fact that sylvari have belly buttons is so strange like do they have some umbilical cord-like vine in their pods that somehow connects them to the pale tree as their physical body grows like an unborn baby is connected to their mom? if so, does it come off by itself like when a ripe apple falls from a tree or do the menders in the grove actually have to cut it for each and every sapling that awakens and emerges from their pod? or does it actually have no functionality and is just there cuz the pale tree saw that’s something humans have and thought it was an important detail for the aesthetic? anet i have questions pls

it's not the first time! The Seraph captured by the White Mantle in Lake Doric use the same animation back in Season 3!

A short story about hilariously reused assets:
Early in the first episode of the Icebrood Saga, a character is tied to a post. Dark story, serious themes, spooky music.
Except.
This is the same animation used in the Super Adventure Box when you run out of tokens and wind up in Moto’s game over dungeon.
Enjoy that.

I need to find this guy and see how he reacts to the other races... particularly asura (first contact they had with asura was with the Inquest, which went about as well as you can imagine, so newborn sylvari were afraid of them for a while)

I forgot about this, when Kionna went to the Grove. I love Sylvari they are so open and adorable.

Did I ever share these?
One time in Dragon Stand the wyverns that spread acid-death on the islands actually…landed? No one else could see it but me…and then it could see me too. It didn’t attack it just…looked at me.

Vizier’s Tower - Guild Wars 2 The first image is apparently how the tower looked during the war with the charr, as shown during the shattered reality in Jahai Bluffs. The second image is off the ruins of the tower in the Straights of Devastation.

Izzit Rinspark, asura engineer, here. I've run the numbers, and I can assure you the waypoint network is currently almost exactly certainly probably safe. Please compare your risk of death by waypoint mishap (practically zero) to the hazards inherent to walking; a decidedly non-zero percentage, increasing proportionally with distance traveled...
...
Okay, if you really want to walk it, come on; we'll make an escort mission of it.
Maguuma Jungle - Brisban Wildlands - Fort Vandal Seraph Soldier Amria: Seems the waypoints are working again. Seraph Soldier Jene: That’s what I’ve heard. Seraph Soldier Amria: You haven’t tried to use one either, huh? Seraph Soldier Jene: I can’t. When I remember how those vines were so focused on them… Are they really safe? Seraph Soldier Amria: I know what you mean.

This is really interesting; if you're curious about the unquenchable bamboo fires in Dry Top or the recent Festival of the Four Winds, give this a look!
I might add that, as a holosmith, I make frequent use of a photon forge powered by a lattice configuration of Sun Aspect Zephyrite crystals!

For anyone looking for colours for a Whisper uniform, these were taken directly from the hero point NPC in front of the Chantry of Secrets in Bloodtide Coast. This is not the only colour combination seen in game, however my opinion is that it has the nicest contrast of the combinations I’ve seen. Feel free to use it if you’d like!
Dark Red = Wrath Dye: ~6 Silver
Light Red = Cherry Dye: ~17 Silver
Brown = Oil Slick Dye: ~45 Silver
Yellow = Lemon Zest Dye: ~12 Silver
Grey = Night Shade Dye: ~27 Silver
Black = Shadow Abyss Dye: ~366 Gold
Shadow Abyss dye will by far be the most expensive here, however Shadow Violet Dye and Shadow Blue Dye also look decent for that slot. Using one of these two will also save you a lot of gold if you don’t have the dye already. They are still mildly expensive.
Shadow Violet Dye: ~29 Gold
Shadow Blue Dye: ~45 Gold
If you don’t have that much gold to spare, using the brown and yellow colours on the hood looks nice as well, and in my opinion matches the uniform nicer than the grey and black do. (See second picture!)
These colours also match the Order of Whispers backpack you can acquire from :GW2:HoT really well!
If you guys would like more of these, let me know! Or feel free to reblog with other dye combinations of NPCs found in game. It’s always fun to dress up characters as NPCs!

I just noticed this norn engineer and his entirely unique turret model just the other day.
My theory is that it was an alternate art asset for the standard rifle turret, or a different turret completely that was cut before release... maybe the skill was broken.
Either way, it hasn't appeared anywhere else in the game, as far as I know.
I want that turret.
I'll fix it it'll be fine
Shiverpeak Mountains - Hoelbrak - Snow Leopard Lodge Iogaer Syllvang: Bear curse it! Useless turret, sitting there like a spark-shooting toy!

I take about every chance I get to gush about the Guild Wars novels, so I won’t let Book Lovers Day go by quietly! 📚( ღ’ᴗ’ღ ) I absolutely love these books and I can really recommend them to people who enjoy Guild Wars lore. The first two, Ghosts of Ascalon and Edge of Destiny were released prior to Guild Wars 2. They introduced readers to big events that made an impact on Tyria in Guild Wars 2. Ghosts of Ascalon was about the Foefire, and Edge of Destiny about the origins of Destiny’s Edge. For me, they were a big reason in deciding to getting the game. At that time, I was so busy, I loved the original Guild Wars but I didn’t think I’d have enough time for a new MMO. The third, and sadly the final book, Sea of Sorrows, was released in 2013, which focuses on the flood of Lion’s Arch and Zhaitan’s awakening.
Of all three, Ghosts of Ascalon is my favourite! I reread it many times, the last time only being a few months ago. When GW2 was released, one day I stumbled upon Dougal Keane in game, I was so excited! And after Lion’s Arch attack, the first thing I did was seeking him out to see if he was okay. Ahh I still hope we’ll get more of these novels one day. I suppose the chances are small, but I’m really grateful for these books we got! (❁´◡`❁)
