Comfort Crowd

Writing about how bad my mental health used to be kind of takes me back to that place and it’s really scary. That’s the thing about writing what you know. I’m writing somewhat closely to my life and when I write at night it scares me a little just because of how scary my mental health used to be. The scary images and trauma and how it would keep me awake for days but I think it’s important to talk about. It definitely got better. But it really is hard reliving those moments. To realize how reliant I was on another person who pulled me out of it that I don’t have the same way anymore is a harsh reality to tackle but I think this novel will be good. I hope it’s therapeutic.

I think it’s also especially scary because my mind has creeped back in that direction. I’ve been out of a job since COVID-19 and the last time I was this depressed it was because I had just graduated high school and was trying to figure my life out. Right now is very similar it’s a reinventing period. I’m making more money than I did working 50,60,70 and even the time I worked 80 hour weeks. All I’m doing is creating and learning and I should be thankful. In so many ways I am. I truly am. It’s so shitty how essential workers aren’t getting paid an additional hazard pay. We’d be fucked without them. The thing is I love being a bartender and working in the kitchen and being at work. It’s always been a distraction but now I have to decide what’s actually my future and that’s terrifying. Too much time to think is really bad for me because all I do is overthink and analyze. I am thankful to be with family though and honestly I wish everything would shut down in Texas again because it’s really concerning to see the numbers spike. The U.S and I think the world in general is going through a revolting Change right now. We’re all deciding on who we’re going to be. We’re holding people accountable we’re demanding change. Anti racism, anti homophobia and fighting for a better and safer future.

I don’t think the world will ever be the same. We’ve realized the value of human life over capitalism. Jobs won’t be the same, we won’t allow our country to be the same or the people who govern it. I’m changing and unsure of my future but so is the world. So much failed leadership, so many pointless deaths that could’ve been prevented if we had acted sooner on lockdown. Too many people have ignored the severity of this virus too often. Disobeying quarantine and forcing people to work in unsafe conditions spreading this virus like wildfire. So much senseless murdering by the people who are supposed to protect us and a part of me wishes this horrific disaster year never occurred. The other half of me knows that this is rock bottom and we only have up to go and we’re witnessing history and a future being built.
