The fact that someone decided to market this book as YA and not just a sci-fi thriller is insane to me. Anyway, here's my thought process while reading.

Consider
Kodiusk but modern au
YES. i frogor about this ask for a hot secound but but have some ideas
x) I’m putting them in modern our time because I don’t know enough about their timeline and honestly? Not the biggest fan of dystopias
x) kodiak still just as shy and reserved as he is canonically, defintiely meets ambrose on accident and amb is just persistant enough to worm under kodiak’s skin
x) I could see ambrose persuing his passion of violin, maybe teaching or performing with an orchestra? or on the other hand, working at a plant nursery. dont ask me why I’m just getting the vibes hard.
x) less sure on what kodiak would do, he doesn’t mention much of his passions that i can personally remember. i could see him working with exotic animals though, maybe reptiles? snake man
x) kodiak is hopelessly smittin the second he sees ambrose but he lets that rough exterior try and hide it (spoiler ambrose can see right through it) kodiak seems like the man to try and force them to be enemies so he has a reason not to be close with ambrose. he has mental illnesses he needs therapy.
will add on more as my brain buzzes thank u for the ask friend

// the darkness outside us spoilers
thinking about the ending where kodiak has a mind break and unknowingly kills them both.
the made for war upbringing is finally shown in this section when he fights ambrose for trying to stop him from destroying supplies. ambrose admits he isnt built to fight kodiak, and while he doesnt like it, ends up letting OS knock kodiak out mid-outburst.
even after that, ambrose still tries his damndest to help kodiak so they can work through it together like the other clones had. but something mustve happened with This kodiak that didnt to the previous or future ones, because he just /cant/ accept it.
hes convinced himself that its all an elaborate trick, because he cant accept that his life as a clone is inherently false and a lie. i would love to know what interactions kodiak went through before his break just to see exactly how this one divulged so heavily from every other ideration we see of kodiak.
the other idea is that even changing slightly how ambrose goes about telling kodiak after the initial pair figure out could /so easily/ lead to kodiak giving into fear and fighting the truth. which is arguably more terrifying, that the potential was there all along and the others just got lucky.
his trauma with his upbringing is undoubtably why this happened, but i still find it interesting to look at and analyze it compared to the other lives we see.

"You love Kodiak. That is the hidden miracle of all of this: you might be loving each other deeper than any humans have ever loved, have ever needed to love, have ever had the occasion to love. Well, maybe Adam and Eve did, but you and I both know we don't think they ever existed. "
