Does Yuri even have a single friend in the afterlife? I mean besides ENA, who from what I can tell still thinks of Yuri as one.

Now I’m imagining Yuri being gloomy about the fact she’s alone and is heavily jealous of Natsuki’s and Jesse’s friendship ( she definitely haunts Jesse for it )

It's hard to really say anyone would forgive Yuri for what she did. I don't think even Walter and Hiroshi would favour her after hearing about her plans to try and get everyone killed. I see Ena as this special exception as I like to think morality is a more flexible concept to them. The same way they would forgive Natsuki for killing them, they sort of just brush off Yuri's behaviour as well. Sure, they sometimes found her scary, but they also think there's a little more beyond the surface.

At this point, Yuri just wants to see Natsuki make it out alive. And, while she is a little jealous that Natsuki's spending all this time with Jesse, she'd rather see her happy than not at all. So really, Yuri would only haunt Jesse to make sure he keeps her protected 👍

I wondering what would DR69 be like if Meg and Stewie replaced Peter and Brian

I like to think you got this idea from the cast swap post here. If not, funny coincidence.

The overall vulgarity Peter and Brian brought to the cast would drop exceedingly, although I do think Stewie and Meg would still provide their own, uh, not so family-friendly perspectives towards the killing game. I did portray Stewie outside of the killing game in UDG69, but it's interesting to think about how he'd suffice inside it.

I think like in the 'fake-out' killing game, Stewie would try to keep a level head, although would question the capabilities behind everything (e.g. how they were all brought here, how the executions were built, etc.). He'd be helpful in the trials, which would be funny considering Luigi would be very confused and hesitant to rely on a toddler for complex logical aid.

Meg on the other hand would probably react more in line with the other teenagers in DR69: fearful and angry towards the situation. I think she'd try to isolate herself from the others out of distrust and self-esteem issues at first, but I could see characters like Miku, Teto and Fluttershy trying to approach and befriend her. I could see her committing a murder out of desperation honestly.

However I'm unsure how Stewie and Meg's dynamic would work, since I don't think even Family Guy pairs them up that often. That, and everyone in the family apart from Brian can't understand Stewie (at least in the earlier seasons). So, I'd either keep gags in where Meg has no idea what Stewie is saying, or because it'd be kinda weird for everyone but her to understand him, I'd get rid of the concept altogether. Then, I could see Meg trying to at least protect her baby brother considering the deadly circumstances, which could even be her murder motive.

#I wouldn't know what her execution would be #mainly because I haven't watched FG in ages and I don't really know anything for how Meg could get killed #and yes maybe there could be at least one shut up Meg gag for funsies lol

I still agree with all three points I made in that post. However, a think a big retcon I didn't touch upon is the chapter 4 case. Now, it's not the murder case itself I would change, but Sans' motivation towards killing Peter is something that would benefit from a re-write.

For context, I originally had planned, very early on, for Sans' reason for dealing the final blow on Peter with the bat would be due to provocation about his brother. You must be wondering, "right, like in canon." Well... it was a little bit different. You see, Peter, in this scenario, would reveal he killed Papyrus, which would have set Sans off the edge.

Now, why would Peter have killed Papyrus? How would he have even done so? I literally do not know. Back then, a lot of the questions surrounding the multi-verse plot thread hadn't been answered, so my mind was more free to create scenarios like that. I guess I thought I could somehow make it work later on, but since it never did, I ended up keeping the scenario the same, but without any of the heavy implications needed to really explain why Sans got to worked up over what Peter said. So, I think that's why people usually criticise that part of the fic often.

Of course this isn't me giving an excuse, this is just me explaining why things ended up this way. I really could have come up with something else that could've provoked Sans as much as the initial plan, but I just didn't lol

What would I do to change things, then? Well, either bring back the possibility of pre-DR69 lore where Peter did end up killing Papyrus for some reason. However if I did do that, UDG69 couldn't exist the way it is. Or, I could have Peter threaten someone else close to Sans that was physically there in the school, aka Nagito. In that case, Sans would be more justified in his reasoning to attack Peter in order to protect him. Extra tragic sansmaeda for the soul

Yay the blog turned a year old today 🥳

Honestly it’s funny how long it’s been since I first started this blog. A whole full year. Where both chapter 4 and 5 were seen completed. So that’s pretty cool.

Now then, about chapter 6. I know it might be a bit early to start the discussion on it, but I do want to mention it.

Firstly, however, I have about 7 more asks in the inbox I’m going to answer before I open it up again. I’m not sure how long it’ll take me, since a few are art-related, but hopefully it will be sometime in the coming week.

Back onto topic, chapter 6 production might end up being a little different from the previous two. Instead of working on everything in bulk, we may go back to doing what we did for the early chapters and post whatever we finish before moving onto the next part. This is mostly because I want to be able to share the next chapter segment without a huge time gap in between.

Like I said before for chapter 5, I’m still planning out all the little details for chapter 6, but again, that doesn’t mean I don’t know what’ll happen because oh boy it’s all I can think about haha

I won’t be able to provide an estimate for anything at the moment, purely because I do want to finish all the planning before moving onto any proper writing. But I think that’s okay because I also want to give you all time to take in the trial and all that

For DR69, what would happen if Mario didn’t kill Mr Krabs would Ashley have been the first murderer, how would that change the course of the story? Same for DR96 if Hiroshi didn’t kill Walter or more likely never heard Jesse and Walter, would they have taken the boat or would have Monotora blew them up as soon as they got in the water? Who would have died first?

For the first scenario, considering Ashley had the idea to murder from the beginning, she probably would’ve taken the opportunity eventually if no one stepped in. If we go off the scenario that Mario never contemplated murder during the first blood perk motive, I could see Ashley trying to capitalise on it instead. Her target would be someone weak and easy to kill on her own, as she wouldn’t have Red in this case.

If she murdered in the time frame, and managed to have the body discovered before the time limit was up, there could be an interesting scenario where she’s let out of the school freely. However, everyone would feel pretty betrayed, trust in each other down over the whole thing. And not to mention the injustice of whoever the victim was. I could see the next killer trying to do achieve something similar to Ashley, although this time having to fight their way through the trial for the first time.

As for the second scenario, if Walter managed to finish the boat without any deadly complications, I feel like he’d play dumb about the size of the boat. He’d then ‘suggest’ that him and Jesse use it so it doesn’t go to waste, as they ‘look to find help’. Would Nesos stop them from leaving, however? Well, it’s sorta 50/50. I could see both scenarios where they either let them go or punish them for it. Or, there could potentially be a third scenario where Monotora takes the boat hostage and uses it as an extra motive: claiming that whoever murders can have the boat back.

In that case, I could see Walter planning out 50 murders in his mind. Although I’d think he’d be less willing to commit the act itself, himself becoming a prime suspect just by proxy of being the one to design the boat. So, he’d either force Jesse to do it or maybe blackmail someone else (I’m not sure who though, but if he somehow got a hold of another person’s letter I could see that being the source of the threat). Who he would want to kill specifically? Again, like in Ashley’s case, probably someone easy and weak. Or, maybe he’d try to target L, to get rid of a potential foe in terms of the trial.

Also, on topic of the 3rd killing game hypothetical, I’m just going to throw a random idea out there. I’ve been playing some Papa Louie games as of recent, and while I’m not sure if any of the characters have lore, it would be kinda funny to think about adding one of them, since there seems to be a lot of reoccurring customers with cool designs.

You know, the funniest thing that doesn't ever get brought up in the fic itself, is how painfully obvious from an outsider's perspective that there's something going between Hayasaka and Kurumada. Like, you see these two dudes locked side by side practically everyday: at the restaurant in the mornings, investigating the new islands, and just hanging out in general. At that point you either assume they're best friends or already married.

Jesse even hints to this when the two show up together for the standup event in chapter 3. So yeah, I'm convinced both Natsuki and Jesse are in agreement that those two may be... a little fruity. 🏳️‍🌈

The only character I think doesn't fully get this is Brian. Not that he can't see it, but he doesn't know how the social cues line up to suggest he should give them some privacy. You know, like coming to the doorway in chapter 4 daily, and him assuming the two were simply making plans for the day in chapter 5 daily. Brian tries his best and that's all that matters (even if Kurumada wants to rip his hair out every time it happens)

How would the DR69 survivors handle being thrown into another killing game, Future Arc-style?

They’ve already been through enough, this is just overkill. An Overkilling game!!!!!!!! Mwahahaha (please hold your tomatoes I just got this shirt dry cleaned)

I don’t think any of them would particularly enjoy it, but I’ll go into the specifics of each character:

Luigi -> At this point, poor Luigi is just sick and tired. His top priority however would be to protect the others and himself to keep alive their promise to have no one else die to a killing game

Parappa -> Being thrown into another potential death trap is not healthy for this young dude. Although I’d imagine this time around he’d take in the advice he got from Luigi and try to act more braver about things right off the bat, and would encourage the others to do the same

Ayano -> Even she would be quite frankly annoyed at the circumstances. If there were other participants of this killing game, I don’t think she’d be very communicative towards them, keeping her guard up after knowing anyone could be faking who they really are (cough cough the voice synth girlies)

Nagito -> I won’t lie, I feel like Nagito would be in a mixture of absolute agony being put into his third killing game, but at the same time, he’d wonder if there was some sort of fate or bigger reason behind it. He’d be a bit more reckless with his life (which is not saying much to be honest), trying to figure out the mysteries behind what was going on, and communicating with the other participants

The Conductor -> The Conductor would end up tossing a few profanities and kicks at a wall before calming down, only to start swearing like a sailor again asking what he did to deserve this. This time around however, he’d try to be less hot headed and focus more on making sure the group sticked together safely (and hoping no one would lose their sanity again)

TLDR, I think the group would act more closely to not repeat the same mistakes they made in the previous killing game. Of course depending on whatever’s thrown at them, it’s only natural to slip back into bad habits.

I'm always endlessly impressed by how the murder mysteries are written each chapter. Do you have any tips, advice, or general info on writing murder mysteries for someone looking to write their own fangans?

Aww, thank you so much!! Honestly I wouldn't think I'd ever be that good at writing murder cases (I mean, just look at the first case from DR69), but with practice comes experience, I suppose haha.

In fact, I have given tips about putting together a murder case before, which you can find in this post here!

My extra advice on top of that? Do things you find interesting or fun to write, or something that could really spice the trial up as everything unfolds piece by piece. The more insane it is, the better.

#of course there is nothing wrong with taking aspects from pre-existing cases as inspiration #whether it's from canon DR or another fangan #for instance SDRA 2's first case gave me inspiration for a particular location for DR96's third case

I am just curious about what if Saiki can hear other people’s thoughts. Other than how easy some of the trials might go for him. How would he react to other characters thoughts specifically someone who literally have a whole speech in his head multiple times.
