angst but happy ending (have i ever written anything without angst??) anyways! as always, this is all made up!! jb is a little mean in this one, and in real life i am so sure she would never act like this

After a horrifically unproductive day at the studio, all Julien wants to do when she gets back to her house is sleep for approximately 17 hours. The clock on the wall reads 6:13 when she drops her jacket on the couch, completely forgetting about the dirty breakfast dishes she had promised you she would clean up that morning. You had an obnoxiously early start that morning, but wanting to see you before you left for work, Julien had woken up and you two had made breakfast together.

“I’m so sorry I don’t have time to clean everything up,” you had whispered apologetically, perched atop the counter while Julien stood between your legs. “If you could put everything away before you go to the studio for me please baby? And I can make us dinner tonight? I shouldn’t be too late? I think they were saying 7:00 wrap tonight? So I’ll be home by 7:45 at the latest.” Julien had agreed, if mostly to quiet her excited girlfriend so she could get a few kisses in before you left, but had gone back upstairs and fallen asleep after you were gone. She had slept through her alarm, and in her panic to get to the studio on time had forgotten to clean the kitchen.

Julien walked up the stairs, pushing the door to their bedroom open and falling face-first onto the large, unmade bed, and immediately passing out. She sleeps peacefully for about an hour and a half, until the slamming of the front door startles her awake. Rubbing her eyes irritatedly, Julien sits up in the darkened bedroom, a headache growing behind her eyes. 

“Babe?” She hears you call from downstairs. “Where are you?” Grumbling to herself, Julien sits up and stretches, her back popping from the movements. You pad up the stairs, and poke your head into the bedroom, smiling at the sight of your tired girlfriend. “Good nap?” you ask softly, walking towards the bed and sitting down next to Julien, who wraps her arms around her girlfriend’s waist, resting her head in your lap.

“Yeah, baby.” Julien hums. “Really good nap.”

You laugh softly, stroking Julien’s hair in your lap. “I’m glad, babe. You’ve been working yourself to death recently. How was the studio today?”

Julien rolls her eyes, sitting up abruptly. “I really don’t want to talk about work right now.” She says, irritated. Your eyes widen slightly, shocked by your girlfriend’s sharp tone, but ultimately chalking it up to her exhaustion. “Oh, okay. I’m sorry, Jules. I can go start dinner, if you want to nap a little longer?”

Julien looks at you guiltily. “I’m sorry, princess.” She pulls you into her lap, kissing your forehead repeatedly. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. I love you.” You laugh quietly, relishing in the comfort of Julien’s arms, the kisses being pressed to your face. 

“It’s okay baby. I get it. Want to come start on dinner with me?” 

Julien nods, and follows like a puppy after you, down the stairs and into the kitchen. Julien is so lost in thought that when you stop abruptly in front of her at the sight of the kitchen, Julien smacks directly into you, knocking you forward a couple of steps. 

“Whoa princess, what’re you doin’?” She asks, reaching out to steady you. You swat her hands away, turning to face Julien with an unamused expression on your face. “Hey,” Julien takes a step back. “I’m sorry baby, I didn’t mean to bump into you, I swear, I just wasn’t expecting you to stop there…” she trails off at the look on your face. “What?”

“The kitchen, JB.” You say, gesturing to the dirty dishes behind you. “You promised you would clean up this morning, remember? I specifically asked if you could take care of it this morning so it wouldn’t be a problem tonight, and you told me not to worry, that you would clean up before you left.”

Julien rolls her eyes, her girlfriend’s irritation only adding to her bad mood. “Seriously, babe? You barely see me all day, and now you’re getting mad because I didn’t do the dishes? So I wanted to get some extra sleep this morning? Don’t you think I fuckin’ deserve it? I work so damn hard, I deserve a break, and having you flipping out on me isn’t helpful, baby.” Her tone is biting, her words harsh, and she barely notices the tears glazing over her girlfriend’s eyes. 

“I work hard too, Julien!” You grit out. “Just because I’m not some incredible singer doesn’t mean I don’t work hard, doesn’t mean I’m not exhausted when I get home. You told me you would clean up and you didn’t, I don’t understand why you’re getting so defensive-”

“Exactly!” Julien yells. “You don’t understand. You have no idea what it’s like to have this pressure on your shoulders every goddamn second, the eyes of so many people, waiting for you to fuck up. But guess fucking what, princess? The world doesn’t revolve around you.” She stalks closer to you, her voice loud. “You have no idea what I’m dealing with, how exhausted I am constantly, how hard I’m working. So I forgot to do the dishes once? So what? Look at everything I do for you, everything I bring to the table, versus you, and then try to tell me off again, princessI.” As soon as the words leave her mouth, Julien wishes she could take them back. You look like you’ve been slapped across the face, and the unshed tears in your eyes finally begin to fall. You let out a choked sob, backing away from Julien who, in her anger, had cornered you against the table. 

“Wait, baby…I didn’t…” but it’s too late. The damage is done. 

“You’re right, Julien,” You manage. “I don’t know what it’s like. Maybe you should find someone who understands you, because obviously I never could.”

“No, princess, please-” Julien starts, before you cut her off.

“Don’t fucking call me that.” You snap. “I’m not your ‘princess’, I’m not your ‘baby’, I’m not your ‘doll’, I’m not anything to you, apparently.”

“No, please. You’re everything to me, I swear, I was just being mean because I’m tired, please, I didn’t mean it” Julien’s eyes fill with tears. You turn away from her. “I think you should leave, Julien. Before you say something else you ‘don’t mean’”. 

“No, please, you know I can’t leave when we’re fighting, we have to fix things, please let me fix things.”

You turn to her, tears streaming down your face. “I don’t know if you can fix this, Julien. I’ve put up with a lot of your shit, when you snap at me because you’ve had long days at the studio and I let it slide, when you chainsmoke because you’re stressed and I hold my tongue because I don’t want to make you more upset, when you make my problems feel small because I’m not part of some huge band. I don’t know if I can do this anymore. It’s not fair to me.”

Julien drops to her knees in front of you, reaching gently for your hands. “Please let me fix this” she cries softly. “Please, my love. I will do anything to make it up to you. Anything.” You pull your hands from Julien’s grasp. 

“I’m going to bed” you say, brokenly. “Just, wash the dishes, please.” 

“I love you” Julien calls out after you, watching you retreat up the stairs. “Baby, I-I love you.” You say nothing, and as soon as you disappear up the stairs, Julien breaks down in tears. She sits on the kitchen floor and cries, cries because she thinks she might have just ruined the best thing in her life. Julien cries for what feels like either ten minutes or ten hours, until she has no tears left and her sobs turn into pathetic sniffles. Eventually, she stands up and finds her phone, calling the only two people she trusts to help her fix her relationship. Phoebe and Lucy both pick up almost immediately, and listen dutifully as Julien fills them in on the fight while she tries to tidy up the kitchen. 

“Wow” Phoebe manages when Julien finishes the story. “Julien, fuck, I don’t know what to say.”

“I do,” Lucy chimes in. “You fucked up. Big time. Like, I don’t even know how you fucked up this badly.”

“That’s really helpful, Luce.” Julien retorts. “Now, how do I fix things? She’s the best thing in my life, and I can’t do this without her.”

“I think you and her need to have a really serious conversation about your relationship and what she expects of you” Phoebe says seriously. “It sounds like you’ve been neglecting her, however unintentionally, taking her for granted. She’s put up with it for long enough, JB, and honestly, she deserves better. I love you and I’m here for you no matter what, but you’re in the wrong here, babe.”

“You guys will work it out, but just try to understand where she’s coming from. You’ve got a pretty short fuse when you’re stressed,” Lucy adds. “I know you both and I know how much love you have for each other. Just, talk things through with her, see it from her point of view.”

“Okay. I’ll try. And you’re right, she deserves better. I’ll do my best to try harder for her, to be more attentive and more patient for her. I love her so much.”

“We know,” Lucy says. “We love you both so much, and I know you two will work it out. It’s hard right now, but you’re going to come out on the other side of this so much stronger as a couple.”

“Tell her we say hi, and call us tomorrow with updates, okay JB. We love you.” Phoebe says, bringing a small smile to Julien’s face.

“I will. Thank you guys, I love you both so much.” Julien disconnects the call and wipes down the counter, before turning off the kitchen lights and heading upstairs. Her footsteps grow soft as she reaches the door to your shared bedroom, and she pushes the door open softly, her heart breaking at the sight of you curled up on the bed, eyes red and puffy. 

“I don’t want to talk right now, Julien.” You say quietly, your voice raspy. 

“Will you listen then, baby? Just, I have a few things I want to say to you, to apologize for, and then you can kick me out, okay?” Julien asks hopefully, walking slowly towards the bed. You sit up wordlessly, gesturing for Julien to go ahead.

“Um, okay. Here goes. Baby, I’m so, so fucking sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I’ve been so tired and stressed lately. And I know that’s not an excuse. I just want to tell you where I’m coming from. That gives me zero right to take it out on you, though. And I’m so sorry because through everything, you’ve been here for me. You’ve stuck with me, through good and bad, no matter what. And I’ve been taking you for granted, which is so unfair to you, and you deserve so much better than me. You deserve someone who listens to you and values your opinions, someone who loves you so much they can’t stand the thought of life without you. Someone who knows how hard you work, someone who is always there for you, someone who is patient and protective and treats you like a queen. I want to be that person for you, if you’ll let me. I want to show you how incredible you are and tell you every day for the rest of our lives how much I adore you. I can’t imagine my life without you. I don’t want to imagine my life without you. I know I don’t deserve you, but please, give me another chance. You make my life worth living, you make everything better. I love you more than I can ever say, but if you want me, I will spend the rest of our lives proving how much I love you.” By the end of her speech, you're sobbing. 

“Oh, fuck, baby, doll, I’m so sorry, I-”

“Shut up and kiss me” You cut her off, and Julien’s eyes widen at your statement. “I, what?”

“You heard me,” you laughed, your throat still choked with tears. “Kiss me, Julien.” Without hesitating, Julien surges forward and connects your lips in a searing kiss. She can taste the salt of your tears mixing with her own, and when she finally breaks away, she rests her forehead against yours, gently wiping your tears away.  “I love you” she whispers. “And I don’t deserve you. But I love you so much. And I’m sorry.”

“I know you are,” you say. “But I don’t want to talk about that right now. I’m tired. Let’s go to sleep, we can talk more in the morning.”

Julien presses her lips to yours once more. “You’re the boss, princess. I’ll start making it up to you first thing tomorrow.”

“You better.” You say, letting out a watery chuckle, cuddling into her. “And I have a few ideas for how you can start.”

You drew stars around my scars

It was a lazy evening after a long day, lying with my girlfriend in the comfort of our home is the only thing I thought about all day. I lie on her chest as she reads and gently trace the tattoos on her arm, over the tooth, the little antenna and the outline of the cicada, the tiny details on the flower, the lettering over the casket, and over the snake and bird. I didn’t want to bother her, trying to stay quiet as she read, all of me was itching to get to her hand tattoos though.

I contemplated asking her to put down the book, maybe I could? Maybe she’d be mad. But she wouldn’t, it’s Julien, she couldn’t be mad at me for this. Plus she’s read “The Myth Of Sisyphus” plenty of times. I went back and forth in my head like this for a while, but ultimately decided to ask her to put the book down.

“Hey j?”

“Yeah baby?”

She replied, her eyes still fully locked on the book. I felt bad, it really wasn’t important, and she does love to read…fuck it. I won’t ask, I’ll just take it back.

“Uhm never mind. Sorry.” I laughed nervously, trying to cover up that I had something to say. It was no use though, Julien knew me all too well. Putting down the book, she turned gave me her full attention “what’s up, honey?” She asked. “It’s gonna sound silly…I just wanted your hand..that’s all” I replied, almost timidly. She smiled and put her hands in mine, “well you got ‘em now baby” I smiled too, working my fingers over the lettering on the knuckles of her left hand. My fingers softly traced the lettering and the flowers before moving on to her right hand and repeating the action.

“Sorry I pulled you away from your reading for that” I apologized. “Don’t be sorry honey, I really enjoyed it. You wanna do my back too?” She asked and my face brightened up at the option. “Really?” I asked with starry eyes. She just chucked and sat up, taking off her shirt and laying on her tummy “have at it baby”

I tried to cover up how happy I was, I didn’t want to seem foolish, but Julien’s back tattoos were so damn beautiful. I almost forgot she had them sometimes, something about getting to be one of the only people who gets to see them made me feel special. I sat up and looked down at Juliens back, running a hand down it. I take my pointer finger and run it over each detail, every flower, every scale, and the little details on the animals heads. “This is making me wanna get tattoos” I said as I finished tracing. She laughed a little and sat up, putting her shirt on and reaching into the drawer of her nightstand, pulling out a pen.

“Give me your hands baby, I can give you tattoos too” I smiled and placed my hands in hers, she drew an i on my right pinkie and than an l on my ring finger, an o on my middle, a v on my pointer and than an e in my thumb before moving to the next hand. She drew a y on my pointer, an o on my middle, and a u on my ring finger. I giggled as I read my fingers and leaned in to give a sweet kiss to her lips “I love you, jb. Thank you I love the tattoos” she smiled and said “you’re welcome baby, I love you most.”

Ugh this could’ve been cuter, and longer, but wtv. I hope this suffices.

okay i feel like phoebe would be the reason for the karaoke machine at all, like phoebe definitely bought the machine and gifted it to jb and soft!gf as a housewarming present. i like to think that their house becomes "the house" for get-togethers and stuff like its a very entertainment-forward house but it's just so cozy and centralized to everyone's locations.

everyone is doing karaoke and its all fun and silly and then maybe katie does a slower song, and then phoebe, and then lucy and a mutual friend do a duet and kelli finally convinces soft!gf to sing something with her.

"do a taylor song baby!" julien is encouraging soft!gf from where she stands on the wall next to jo and some other friends.

i feel like kelli is looking for slower songs and soft!gf picks lover. (i just feel like maybe soft!gf wouldn't do a song on her own?? maybe if it was just the boys in the house)

“we can leave the christmas lights up til january” and julien can tell soft!gf is nervous but her voice is so small and sweet, juliens heart just melts.

“have i known you 20 seconds, or 20 years?” soft!gf canonically giggles at inappropriate times but especially when she's nervous or anxious so she and kelli are giggling between lines.

but somewhere before the bridge soft!gf makes eye contact with julien and it's like they're the only two in the room and soft!gf loves how soft and tender julien looks underneath Christmas decorations, wearing a cute christmas tie.

and julien's cheeks are pink, eyes slightly teary as she watches soft!gf on the makeshift stage in their living room, loving the way her hips subtly move with the beat, her arm wrapped around kelli's waist as they both sing.

“with every guitar string scar on my hand, i take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” soft!gf sings finally getting into it as she lifts her hand to show a small scar, maybe from helping julien hang the guitars in her office or something, giggling as she sings it because julien is the one with scars and calluses underneath her tattooed fingers.

and once soft!gf hands the mic to someone else, maybe jo and a mutual friend, she all but skips to julien, jb wrapping her up, kissing her firmly as they sway back and forth, juliens hands splayed on the back of her neck and sliding down to her butt.

"ya did so good gorgeous," julien's murmuring against her lips, hand running through the ends of her hair, readjusting the Christmas tree head band on her head (she wears this bc i wore this on Christmas teehee).

as a fellow julien and feminine artsy girl, i had waaay too much fun brainstorming for this idea. i will say though that i didn’t really touch on the body language/music part just cause i don’t think being more feminine or masculine can truly determine those things so i didn’t know what to write for those. but here’s some headcanons i stirred up (: RPF UNDER THE CUT

okay so we know that one of the many forms of art artist!gf partakes in is makeup. and i said it when i was responding to an ask, but i’ll reiterate that artist!gf puts in just as much patience and effort into her makeup as she does when she picks up a literal painting canvas

and julien doesn’t really have a lot of experience in the visual arts other than drawing, which she does do sporadically. but she does lack experience in the cosmetic department, not that it interests her a lot.

but she absolutely loves how you take your time doing your makeup. especially when you two are going out because all she needs is ten minutes MAXIMUM to get ready and then she gets to sit down on the toilet seat in your shared bathroom where you’re doing your makeup and just watch you in admiration

but she does hate when you try and leave her by herself to start getting ready HOURS before you guys even have to leave

“where’re you goin’, baby?” she asks when you get up from your spot on the couch next to her

“i’ve gotta get ready.” you reply, giggling at julien because she uses a frown and her big brown (👶🐮) eyes as an offering in hopes that you’ll stay with her a little longer

“we got a couple hours,” and now she’s scooting on the couch to reach where you’re standing before she gently grabs your hand, rubbing and kissing your knuckles, “you can give me just a couple more minutes. .?”

she inevitably ends up winning you over, and when you do leave to get ready, she just follows you

and on the days where she’s tired and she feels like staying at home and having a lazy day but you two made plans with friends prior to that day and it’s too late to back out, she’s extra clingy. once she quickly finishes getting ready, she’s walking into your shared bathroom, lazily wrapping her arms around your waist and resting her head on your back while you’re literally in the middle of doing your makeup. so now you’re incredibly stiff because you’re unable to lean forward to look into the mirror but you put up with it for her.

doing your hair is a whole other story. it can either take you thirty minutes or an hour depending on the day and what you decide to do with it (curl it, straighten it, etc)

but julien actually loves the anticipation of how you’ll wear your hair when you go out (bonus: especially if your hair’s naturally curly and you decided to wear it natural, she’s like ☹️☹️☹️, and if she’s seen baby photos of you with your natural hair, she probably just wants to tackle you lovingly and kiss all over your face)

but she just whole-heartedly loves your hair and it doesn’t matter what hair-type you have. like if your hair’s straight? she loves how it’s so soft and easy for her fingers to glide through. if your hair’s curly? she loves getting to play with the springy curls. and if it were anyone else, you’d scorn them for making your curls lose definition. but when it’s her? your perspective completely changes.

another thing is that she always has your banana clips and scrunchies in her car. so if you last minute decide that you wanna put your hair up, all you gotta do is open the glove compartment and there’s a variety for you to choose from

she’d also keep one of your scrunchies around her wrist when you guys go out in case you wore your hair down and changed your mind throughout the night. or maybe you didn’t wanna use it at that exact moment but you didn’t want the scrunchie on your wrist to ruin your outfit so she’ll wear it for you (lucy and phoebe always snap the scrunchie on her wrist to tease her)

speaking of outfits, you and julien’s fashion styles are completely different

julien’s day-to-day style consists of graphic-tees, plain colored t-shirts, skinny jeans or dickies, and a pair of converse or really any tennis shoes. your day-to-day style consists of babydoll crop tops/tees, washed low-rise jeans, and a pair of sambas.

but i think that occasionally you’d both incorporate the other’s style into your own. like when julien wore that sparkly mesh black crop top when she sung phoebe’s verse in silk chiffon, that was definitely yours. and there’ve been days where you spot a graphic tee in julien’s closet that you know you’re capable of styling in a way that’s suiting to you. and when julien sees you wearing her clothes, she 100% teases you about where you got them from knowing damn well she’s fuzzy on the inside just seeing you wear her things

random (but non-random) bonus: seeing as though she’s always with you when you’re getting ready, she’s picked up on a lot of makeup terminology and what most products do. so when you told her that setting spray makes your makeup last through EVERYTHING, she’ll leave it to herself to be the tester of that. cause is it really 100 wet kisses-proof?

Artist!bff is also skilled with makeup artistry. ( I just imagine that artist!bff is more fem but has that beautiful balance of both masc and fem in day to day life.) As an artist, she works on multiple surfaces, one being her face.

Anyways can you just imagine Artist!bff doing their makeup ( whether it’s for a show, event, or they’re just hanging out. Again artist!bff is a ‘ there doesn’t need to be a reason’ person, they will beat their face as they please!/ v much a ‘ i got dressed up just to stay in the house’ person/ I just had another scenarios about that omg my mind is going at it)

Anyways she’s doing her makeup and Munagenius is just staring at her with heart eyes and admiration.

Like babes it doesn’t matter if you’re going all out or just some simple makeup, they are mesmerized and complimenting you!!!!

And let’s say you did your makeup ( makeup artistry on 10, let’s say she did some creative shit like the butterfly eyeliner or the flowers drawn on the side of their eyes) but the group wasn’t there to witness, you’ll either send a picture ( I imagine that they texted you what you were doing and you said “ finished my makeup”, now they’re spamming you asking for pics, cuz hello? ) or call them to show them and they’re just like “ OMG, BUG!!!!!” * que the millions of facetime screenshots*

I can also see them asking you to do their makeup, and as you’re doing it they’re just smiling at you the whole time and you get flustered when you snap out of focus mode and realize. You can barely get through their makeup cuz they’re starring at you BUT YOURE SO CUTE AND TALENTED AND CONCENTRATED how are they NOT gonna stare ☹️ ( that or they’re fucking around and doing the chad face or sum shit, or randomly pecking you when you least expect it)

Sometimes you get ready before they can, and they see you all finished and they’re like “We missed it?☹️” THEY WANTED TO SEE!!!

FAMOUS CREATOR OF ARTIST!BFF ANON HIII 💘 i love your signature emojis i think it’s iconic. also may i just say that artist!bff / artist!gf is progressively becoming famous around here???!!!! i’ve gotten a couple of ideas/requests regarding them and i loooove it. and what’s even funnier is that a couple hours before you submitted this idea to me, somebody else submitted almost this exact idea about artist!bff being femme and artsy in the makeup department as well EXCEPT it’s artist!gf x jb and their relationship dynamic regarding artist!gf’s more feminine interests (which, by the way, i’ve had the time of my life writing!!!!). anyways, as a fellow artsy makeup girl, i’ve had so much fun brainstorming for this idea.

following the ‘getting ready to stay in the house’ idea, i feel like artist!bff would absolutely be the kind of person to experiment with their makeup before showering. and by experimenting, i mean bold and colorful pigments. and 99% of the time, there’s not a specific goal in mind. it’s whatever they feel like. they could choose to achieve a certain look that they may’ve seen on pinterest, or maybe they just saw an aesthetic picture on tumblr and decided they wanted to encapsulate that image in a makeup look. when it comes to pre-shower makeup, artist!bff is unpredictable!!

and artist!bff puts just as much patience and effort into their makeup as they do their literal art projects, because makeup is a form of art. so i think munagenius is just so impressed anytime they see you doing your makeup because they see your concentration and your technique.

also, keep in mind that half of the munagenius members (julien, naomi, jo) are not nearly as interested in makeup as artist!bff is, and they typically only wear light makeup for photoshoots and occasionally interviews and shows but even then, they typically have makeup artists doing their makeup. so them three in specific are absolutely enamored by your makeup knowledge and technique. and it’s not that their completely ignorant to any knowledge about makeup, they can tell the difference between blush and highlighter, but the variety and amount of products you had laid out that took over the entire bathroom counter has them questioning everything they know about makeup. so then i imagine naomi walks over and is being a tad bit nosy, when they find your contour and bronzer, holding them up like 💁‍♀️ “what’s the difference?” and so you’re explaining how one sculpts your face and the other gives it warmth, and then you’re explaining primer and what it does, and then julien walks over and suddenly you’re giving a makeup lesson. and you wanna continue doing your makeup desperately, but naomi and julien are listening so intently (they really just love listening to you talking about something so passionately)

and of course when you finish your makeup, the compliments come rolling in (specifically from naomi and julien because even after having received the ultimate makeup lesson by you, they cannot wrap their minds around the fact that you not only have all of that knowledge engraved into your brain, but your technique and what you do with that knowledge is so out of this world to them)

and i think while you’re doing your makeup, all of munagenius do their minutely mirror glances just to see the makeup progress. they loooove to keep up with your makeup steps and see the art come together.

i am such a firm believer that there’s a munagenius gc, and it works out PERFECTLY for this idea. imagine artist!bff sends a couple of pictures of their graphic eye-makeup looks, some selfies and some close-ups. and so then somebody ends up facetiming and notifying the entire gc which then eventually leads to everyone joining the call and munagenius + artist!bff facetime calls is a recipe for chaos because there’s gonna be so many different conversations happening at once. like there’d be a conversation surrounding your makeup, a conversation surrounding why certain people joined late, it would just be CHAOS (which we absolutely love).

AND YES YES YES, occasionally, some of them would 100% ask you to do their makeup. i’m not really gonna be touching on this because i’m gonna further elaborate on the upcoming fem artist!gf x jb hcs wink wink

this is me declaring that munagenius is artist!bff’s #1 protector. like there’s not a single member that loves them less than the others. they all love artist!bff with every fiber of their being.

for this particular thought, i wanna say that artist!bff is an opener for boygenius alongside muna. their setlist consists of mostly the fan-favorites but also some of munagenius’ and their own favorites out of their discography. but let’s say that there’s a special occasion, maybe it’s somebody’s birthday and artist!bff has a song dedicated to them on a past album.

i’m gonna be self-indulgent and say that it’s julien’s birthday, and artist!bff wrote Leaning On You (which is a song made by HAIM that i 100% recommend looking up the lyrics and listening to it for this) and dedicated it to julien but had muna feature on it. for julien’s birthday, artist!bff decides to add Leaning On You to the setlist that day to celebrate the special yearly occasion. artist!bff obviously plans this ahead of time and lets all of munagenius in on their plan except for julien.

well artist!bff’s time to open comes rolling around, and all of munagenius is watching them from the side-stage. then, muna, phoebe, and lucy hear what would usually be their closing song, but today, that was their cue to join them.

so muna, phoebe, and lucy are all sprinting to the stage and the crowd is going absolutely feral and meanwhile julien’s like ????? but nonetheless she follows them. she’s probably tapping lucy’s shoulder persistently like 🫵🫵🫵 “lucy?! where the fuck are we going???” and lucy’s just like 😇😇. and then julien hears the song’s tune and her head perks up, her eyes are glimmering, and her heart starts beating two times faster because it’s her song. every word in that song you wrote just for her. and for her favorite people to sing it right in front of her for the first time on her birthday was the best gift she could’ve asked for.

i also have a proposal: maybe artist!bff was also background vocals on graceland too? so later when artist!bff comes out to sing graceland too during boygenius’ set, it’s a lot more intimate, and at that point julien’s definitely emotional. i imagine she’s able to hide it once they’re all huddled and hugging afterwards and she has her face shoved in artist!bff’s neck.

because you two both listened to each other’s work way before you guys even started talking, julien definitely brought one of your albums up in the Records In My Life interview and even spends some time analyzing it as well before she’s subtly cut off given the time limit and their remaining questions

And since you’ve asked for our thoughts, I thought I’d share this with you.

Whether or not it’s just boygenius, muna, or both bands are on stage at the same time. You are not safe backstage. They have so much love to give, why would you be?

Let me paint the scene for you.

You, the bestfriend of munagenius, a solo artist who does write songs and poetry, but especially loves being crafty. Paintings, drawings, origami, etc. ( I’m saying this because of a different scenario I’ve thought of with Munagenius having an artist!friend, maybe I’ll drop that thought here later 👀)

While you are known for your solo work, you’re also known for the shenanigans you, the boys, and muna get up to.

So since you tend to tag along on tours and gigs, it’s not uncommon for you to be side stage or backstage at their shows. You’re just there being so proud of your bestfriends and how hard they’ve worked to get to where they are.

The crowd doesn’t always know you’re there until they accidentally see you, hear you, or you get pulled on stage, which is not uncommon.

Now imagine both groups are on stage just preforming and rocking their little hearts out as usual. And then the shenanigans start.

The dancing on each other, the kissing, they’re running around the stage, etc, etc.

You’re just there watching them, not really being phased cuz the behavior is normal to you, hell a good chunk of the time you join in, or you gay panic, either or.

So maybe you just stay right there at the side of the stage and watch, maybe you go backstage for whatever reason.

Then… one or two of the people on stage remembers, in the midst of their adrenaline high, that you’re there. Just seeing all this unfold, now all of them have much love to give, obviously they show it to you time and time again, so why not show their love for you, their dear bestfriend, on stage?

Either one of them, two of them, maybe a few more of them just suddenly run backstage to get you.

For this I’m gonna say that the two who decided to go after you was Julien and Jo right, it was not long after they had their little moment ( the one where Jules did the knee thing to Jo? yeah) and all of a sudden they just give each other a look.

Next thing you know they’re running to the side of the stage, confusing the crowd and the rest of the members of their bands cuz why tf did they just bolt like that?

The band members are just looking in confusion, until they slowly smile as they see you being borderline manhandled and dragged onto the stage.

Maybe you tried to run once you saw the two rush towards you, knowing what was about to happen. That wasn’t gonna work cuz regardless of which friend it is they always end up catching you.

Which they did, now you, being shorter than Jo but just a bit taller than julien, is currently being tussled on stage by the both of them(When I tell you, you get caught in seconds when you try to run, idk why you still try)

the crowd is in an uproar of laughs and screams, cuz it’s not like their fans don’t know who you are, you have your own fanbase and Munagenius is almost always talking about you, and if they’re not talking about you, they’re posting you on their social media and vice versa. It’s no secret that you’re very close with both of the groups. Hell they may or may not have written songs about you.

Not only is the group and the crowd glad to see you, you’re literally being dragged on stage by a golden retriever and the little one, who wouldn’t laugh?! (Jo gives off such golden retriever energy I can’t,…… I’ll pitch that Idea to someone’s inbox soon) (also they way I just struggled to type ‘inbox’ is embarrassing but anyways 💀)

Anyways all three of you are laughing and shit, maybe they’re tickling you so it’s harder for you to run.

Eventually you get set down and the storm starts, maybe Jo kissed you first? maybe Lucy? Julien??? who knows, all you know is that your friends are showing you so much love, you can barely breath before another one picks up where the last one started.

They’re kissing you cheeks, forehead, nose, chin, neck, lips. And boooooy do you get shy.

It’s not like you’re afraid to show your love to them, you’ve kissed them, cuddled, wrote songs about them, made art about them more times than you can count, and talked about them in interviews. (I also imagine that their bestfriend is the person to send paragraphs of appreciation for them at random, and post appreciation posts on instagram for any of Munagenius’ birthday ( or again, at random, artist! bff is a very sentimental and grateful being that does stuff out of kindness at random, no special occasion needed!!!) and their words are so genuine and poetic it moves people.

AND they just send photos like “ this made me think of you” to let Munagenius know that they’re on their mind, aw, let me get back on track hold on 😭)

Artist bff is also not shy on stage, when they HAVE preformed….. let’s just say people now demand you pay for emotional damages.

YOU’RE SUCH A FUCKING TEASE ON STAGE, facial expressions, winking, motioning you finger in the ‘come here’ motion, biting your lip, dancing. Artist bff is a damn charisma fairy

Yet here you are, on stage with Muna and Boygenius, Blushing at some kisses???? Unbelievable.

Maybe artist!bff isn’t that used to their love being reciprocated, especially publicly so they’re just a bit surprised and flustered.

So you’re just getting bombarded with kisses and hugs and little tickles from both groups, and they’re teasing and cooing at you for hiding your face cuz the fucking audacity that you have to have insane amounts of charisma and be a tease when you’re preforming but the moment you’re not the one preforming, you’re shy?

BUT LIKE you’re overwhelmed with love ( in a good way) and beautiful people that just so happen to be your best friends are kissing you, live, infront of hundreds of people. Sit here and tell me you wouldn’t gay panic YOU CANT

I also imagine that maybe they all have a nickname for you, like ‘love bug’ or ‘little love’ cuz you’re the youngest out of the 6 of them and one of the shortest, and while you’re being brought on stage Katie’s just like “ Oh, they got bug.” while smiling cuz they all just love you so much and AHHHH

Eventually you end up hiding your face in someone’s neck afterwards and they’re just rocking you side to side chucking at how cute you are. Mind you the show must go on so they’re STILL PREFORMING throughout the whole thing but you’re a bit too overwhelmed to walk off the stage rn so into the escape of someone’s arms you go.

and in this scenario, i 100% see muna being responsible for the tickling and boygenius being in a rush to get their lips on you. like you’re being manhandled by julien and jo whilst everyone is running over to you and they set you down but naomi’s in tickle monster mode and so is jo so you can’t even attempt to get up. meanwhile lucy’s hovering on top of you kissing all over your face and julien’s hands are in your hair and she kisses your head and phoebe and katie are standing above you guys like “☹️☹️i wanna pucker my lips on them too????!”

and may i just say that i am loving the similarities between me and artist!bff. i as well get incredibly overwhelmed by affection (not that it’s a bad thing) and i physically do not know how to respond to it so as a result i get shy. ALSO ARTIST!BFF BEING A POET/WRITER 🤝 WORDS OF AFFIRMATION AS OUR LOVE LANGUAGE!!! it only makes sense!
