bottom line is I shouldn’t have to feel crazy for recognizing something that literally, textually happened. we shouldn’t have been made to feel crazy for recognizing the subtext either but! whatever. but it’s so fucking insidious that it literally happened, Cas confessed his love to Dean, and no one will talk about it. no one will say a word. you would think it hadn’t happened, the way everyone so completely refuses to talk about it, talk about the fact that it did happen. and that’s not conspiracy, that’s not us being “those crazy fans” that’s acknowledging that it’s weird! it’s weird that they finally had Cas confess his love for Dean, after years and years of fans recognizing that relationship and even powers that be - such as Misha deliberately playing it that way for years and not being allowed to say anything, knowing he was playing it that way every time a destiel question slipped in at a con and people either hemmed and hawed around it or outright denied it, every time he made a joking reference to destiel - to introduce that confession into the narrative and then ignore that it ever happened in the first place. both within the show itself and everything outside of it. it’s weird. and we’re not crazy for recognizing that, just like we weren’t crazy for recognizing what was going on with Dean and Cas’ relationship
im so tired of the same old fucking queerbaiting cycle happening over and over again.. like, The New Thing comes out, fandom attaches themselves to a ship and it’s not the played-out milquetoast het pair that the writers were going for, gay ship gets more popular than the main pairing and eventually someone asks A Writer if it could ever happen, writer laughs at the idea and says maybe to cover their no, writes in four or five different qb moments for the next season/sequel/w/e but makes sure everyone knows it’s just a wink and a nudge and that they never gave and never will give serious thought to their characters being nonstraight, fans eat it up anyway because they’re starving and write articles about how It’s Different This Time and We Have A Chance and they keep waiting, Thing keeps qb’ing but saying “~you never know~” or “~we’re going to explore the relationship~” or whatever way they come up with to say “we’re going to keep taking your money and giving you nothing you’re asking for” politely, and then eventually everyone gets bitter and tired and realizes that there never was a chance to begin with and they move on, find another new Thing, another new pairing, and it begins again
it’s just so fuckin exhausting to see how voracious people are for this and how far they’re willing to go to try and help something happen. and then to just watch them get exploited and shit on over and over and over again. it’s so awful. everyone deserves so much better
Season 1 Dean: Charismatic, slightly broody, and aggressively straight. Could literally be a YA love interest.
Dean now: Grumpy, awkward bisexual nerd who fanboys over male wrestlers, is usually wearing a fuzzy bathrobe, and spends most of his time sad about the bae.
Season 1 Sam: Overachieving yuppie lawyer with no time for Dean's bullshit.
Sam now: Long suffering, traumatized moose person with no time for Dean's bullshit.
Season 4 Cas: Morally ambiguous, slightly bitchy, and generally terrifying force of nature to be treated with the utmost fear and respect.
Cas now: Cinnamon bun legit sweeter than a thousand sugar cubes. Spends most of his time being bullied and shoved around by literally everyone else. Less intimidating than an actual kitten.
