saw another post saying colin wud be sad and tell debling that he won't interfere w their love but debling better treat pen right or else, and i had to laugh again bc once he does figure his feelings out, Colin would do anything in his power to snatch pen to his side. This man would NOT wait in the sidelines. Once he realizes, it's game over for literally any other man.

Yes!!! Let’s not act like teens are the only option in the show’s universe. Benedict goes after older women/ women his age. Anthony marries 26 year old Kate. Jack Featherington is clearly attracted to the grown and sexy Portia. Debling is choosing a teen bride on purpose, and it’s even weirder when you think about how he’s being promoted as an outsider who doesn’t care about what society thinks or does. If that’s so, how is “it was socially acceptable to have a 20 year age gap with a teen” a suitable excuse? Wallflower status aside, picking a 19 year old virgin bride is like the MOST obvious thing to do.

And if looking at it through 2024 eyes is off limits, let’s look at age gaps through the in-universe writing shall we? Part of how they establish Berbrooke’s creepiness is by telling us he doesn’t care about his and Daphne’s age gap. Trying to get Marina with an old suitor is used to explain why she goes for Colin. Jack Featherington has a large age gap with Cressida, but he’s trying to scam her out of money. So even if these matches are considered socially acceptable within the regency universe, the show has made a pattern of showing the exploitative nature of men going after naive young women. This is, to a lesser extent, even present with Simon and Daphne, Anthony and Edwina, and Lady Danbury in the Queen Charlotte spin-off.

And all else aside- We are allowed to watch the show with some 2024 sensibilities, because the show is intended to appeal to a 2024 audience!!! That’s literally the point of the entire show and all the changes they’ve made to it.

sooooooo anyone going to talk about how Debling and Anderson are being styled exactly the same and are very clearly the same age (late 30s to mid 40s) but one of them is going for a MILF (respectable and good, also big mood) and the other is going for a teenager (get away from her or I'll slaughter you where you stand)? no? just me?

The plotline for Violet that I just made up based on that promo- Anderson is a relative from Lady Danbury’s past that she can’t stand, he sets his eye on Violet to antagonize Danbury, and Danbury doesn’t approve because she thinks he sucks. Violet gets her garden plowed and Anderson catches feelings HARD and wants to lock her down, but Violet was serious that she just wanted sex. She could only love Edmund, but it’s the lust she needed a new man for, and she doesn’t want to remarry, so she sends Anderson packing. Lady Danbury and Violet both have a laugh about the whole thing like the baddies they are.

I can’t stand people saying Penelope should be with Debling because he’s a Lord meanwhile Colin is titleless. Ah yes, Penelope, the character who famously wants lots of responsibility and a lack of free time /s. She straight up says she wants a husband who will leave her alone so she can focus on Whistledown. If she had a title, she’d have more eyes on her and it would make her job harder.

And as for Colin caring about titles and feeling inferior to Debling, when the hell has he ever cared about stuff like that??? He’s a rule breaker, he doesn’t care about propriety, and he’s in a super rich family who will always be there for him even though he’s a third son.

I feel like a lot of you are going to be disappointed when S3 ends up not being the revenge story fanfiction you’re fantasizing about.

some of you are so obsessed with wanting Colin to suffer that it's blinded you to the core principles of what love is. Polin isn't about one of or both of them suffering to "atone for each others sins" to deserve the other, or whatever other iterations of that argument there is. More Penelope discourse

On the topic of female rage. Here’s something you may not want to hear: Penelope can be vicious. And I personally love her for it.

What I love about show Penelope is that she is a good person, she had a wonderful friendship with Eloise in s1 and trough most of s2, she cares about her family even when they are so dismissive of her, she likes dogs, she is is sweet and intuitive and funny and so terribly cute.

But she’s vicious. 

And I’m sorry if that intimidates the crowd who likes their female characters to fit into the Mother, Witch, Harlot stereotype. But the truth is that women can be quite vicious creatures when we want to be, no matter how nice, no matter how good hearted, we are. If you push the wrong button we are willing to ruin lives, without remorse and without apology. 

I find it really funny how so many people are intimidated by that aspect of show Penelope under the guise of ‘oh she’s not a good person’.  Oh please what intimidates that crowd is that show Penelope IS a good person, that she does have good intentions. That she still has the capacity to be the villain of someone else’s story when she’s 100% the protagonist of her own.

Daphne sort of glossed over the concept of how women are expected to fit themselves into a box to survive in this world where they are punished for everything, but Penelope is a better example of what happens when a woman in Daphne’s situation of ‘sit still, be smart, and never get angry’ situation, has power.

Power to hurt back, if someone hurts her. And I personally think this makes Penelope’s character more interesting. The concept that good women can be monsters and still be the absolute most wonderful people you will ever meet, that’s just something you don’t see in media a lot. It may feel contradicting, but it is appealing to me. 

It’s usually more understandable if the character starts out as a bad guy and then does does something unexpectedly good. But the whole “ how can a person be so good and yet….do something bad?”. Well that, that is what I call good writing. 

That’s an aspect of Penelope I look forward to seeing in S3. I want to see Penelope show that just as she is good, she can be vicious and unapologetic if you cross her.

 And that’s the tea.
