Drake Elves 2021 - Taco Belle
Saturday 12/11/21 - Day 1
Apparently fruit trees do not prevent elf infestations, because Holly, Snow, and Mistletoe are back.
And we also know that the elves subscribe to BuzzFeeds, #1 Embarrassing Husband list. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10226014182131866&id=1555370938
Every girl dreams of her chance to dress up like a princess. And what boy doesn't wanna be encased in a Mexican entree? First thing they did on entering our house was to put on Dena's Belle dress and my Taco costume.
I'm never gonna live down Taco Belle am I?

Drake Elves 2021 - Christmas Tree Day
Friday 12/10/21 - Day 0
It never fails... December 10th rolls around and we get a tree, then those pesky elves show up the next day. As we searched the lot for the perfect tree we just didn't feel any sparks.
While wandering around the garden center Dena pulled out a papaya tree and asked what I thought. Seemed unorthodox for holiday decorations but then I realized that getting a nontraditional tree might confuse the elves. I might get a year with no elves!聽
Pack up the papaya! Papa's got some mischievous elves to thwart!
P.S. We also wound up with a side-kick buddy plant. And Kane bought a brick. We really shouldn't be left alone in a store.
P.P.S. We started naming our Christmas trees a few years back. This one is named Mary Jane. Go figure.

12/11/12 We woke up and found Mistletoe in front of the Christmas tree with a water mister attached to our hose...
... And Holly with the other end of the hose inside the toilet! Apparently Dena and I forgot to put water in the tree after setting it up last night. So the elves took it upon themselves to siphon water from the toilet into the tree. Ewww!

Ugh, they are back! And the kids are soooo excited. Did they forget all the problems these elves cause?

Help! I've got an Elf!
So, you've got an elf problem too? Well, here are some of the things I've learned over the years to help make living with a Christmas elf a little more bearable.聽 WHAT IS AN ELF? Elves are the special helpers that work with Santa in the North Pole. They've always helped him make toys, but in the recent years they've been sent to families during the month of December to help Santa keep an eye on boys and girls. And annoy their parents. WHAT DO ELVES DO? After talking with friends I've found that there are many types of elves with differing levels of activity, so if you are looking at adopting an elf you should find the one that will fit best with your family. Basic spying elves:聽The most basic elf will sit on a shelf and watch the kids. Each night he reports the kids' activity to Santa so Santa can properly place the kids on the Naughty vs Nice list. When the elf returns from reporting to Santa he will sit on a different shelf or be in a new location. When the kids wake up each morning they will have to search the room to find where the elf is now. These elves are reported to lose their magic powers if someone touches them. Playful Elves:聽Some elves are a little more hands on. In addition to spying for Santa the kids can touch and play with them. They will often do silly things like hang from the chandelier or play with the other toys in the house. Helpful Elves:聽These elves like to help your family get ready for Christmas. In addition to spying and being playful, they will sometimes do things like decorate your tree or bring you gifts like candy canes. Crazy, caffeine infused, high-octane, mischievous elves:聽Our elves are definitely this variety. In addition to spying, being playful and helpful, they are up for anything. These adrenaline-junkie elves like to do high flying activities like bungee jumping, zip-lining, and kayaking. They often get so excited they cause big messes, like pouring sugar all over the table to make snow angels Our elves even like to pull pranks, like the time they replaced the cat's food with marshmallows. ***Warning this level of elf involvement isn't for everyone*** WHY WOULD YOU WANT AN ELF? I don't know! Our elves cause lots of mischief. I have grown to tolerate their presence but the kids LOVE them and wake up each morning so excited to see what chaos the elves have caused during the night. WHERE TO GET YOUR ELF You can find your elf in many different places. If you are unlucky, like me, you will find that an elf just shows up at your house. I still haven't figured out how to get them to stop coming. I even moved to a new house and they still found us. You can buy your elf from a Elf on a Shelf kit, however, be aware that those elves all look the same so you might get your elf confused with all the others out there. I've been told that you can purchase a "sleigh ride ticket" to invite an elf into your house from www.Elf-magic.com. These elves are cuter and even have different hair colors and skin tones. Beware, they also have additional outfits. WHEN DOES YOUR ELF SHOW UP? Some elves show up the day after Thanksgiving and perform their elf magic each night all the way up to Christmas Eve. In my family, our annual tradition is to get our Christmas Tree on December 10th. We've found that the elves show up the day after we get our tree. This gives them a good two weeks to hang out with us. Two weeks of elf craziness is about all I can handle! WHEN DO YOU GET TO GET RID OF YOUR ELF? The elf will usually stay with your family until Christmas Eve. When you set out your milk and cookies for Santa and your carrots for the reindeer, don't forget to set out your elves too. They get a free ride back to the North Pole. If you can figure out how to get rid of your elf earlier please let me know!
