Note
drstonetrivia you are my favourite blog i love all the things u find abt this manga
That's high praise! Thank you very much :) Honestly, a lot of my trivia is just from rereading the chapters and taking the time to appreciate each panel. There's a lot of small details that Boichi includes in them that might get missed amongst all the action!

Happy Stone Day, everyone!
On this day, when celebrating the onion man is what most people indulge on, let's also turn our eyes to the fascinating civilization that is Ishigami village, in this mini post (compared to what I usually do anyway).
Starting with the reason I am doing this in the first place, Stone Day. It is a celebration from Ishigami Village that takes place in January 4th, which happens to be Senku's birthday, likely an easter egg left by Byakuya in the hundred tales. Unfortunately we weren't shown anything regarding what this celebration involves.
As the manga itself points out, Stone day is significant in several ways, for one, 1/4 is i-shi in japanese, which also means Stone. It is Senku's birthday (and if you've been following me you'll know that the day Senku was born in, January 4th 2004, was the day that Nasa's Spirit rover landed on Mars).
Tumblr media
Another tradition is of course the grand bout, which there isn't much left to say about since it was explained in detail in the series, even down to its specific rules
Tumblr media
Rule 6 is the only one that wasn't relevant in the series as far as I can tell.
It's been also vaguely implied that there are other fighting tournaments that take place in the village, which makes sense, since why would you keep an open arena just to use it once very 20 years or so?
Tumblr media
(Sideways to save vertical space, Suika will pray for your neck)
However it's never explained how this tradition started to begin with; did it exist in treasure island and disappeared after the Ishigami branched off, or did it start with them in the mainland?
The society structure of contemporary treasure island is substantially different, with a number of small villages that are all (at least in theory) managed by a centralized government composed of the master (or "head" much to our amusement) and the prime minister, where most power is held by the master, who also serves as the main religious figure, being the one who largely keeps the hundred tales, which are passed from generation to generation along his lineage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Ishigami village things kinda flipped and thus spawned a system that is at least half matriarchal so to speak. Now political power is split between the chief and the priestess, where the chief holds most executive authority while the priestess holds most of the religious power, and it is the lineage of the priestess that keeps the tales and that power in-family, with the chief being some allegedly suited rando from the village.
Even though it's the obligation of the priestess to marry the chief, she is rarely if ever shown as a subordinate to him and both can be seen directing the village, which I think it's very interesting. The anime went as far as expanding on this, by implying that it was Ruri who told Kokuyo to abdicate his position to Senku.
Tumblr media
Sneakily she gets to keep being the priestess without having to be engaged, and we see her taking leading roles from then on.
Now I've talked about religious figures but what is their religion to begin with? Hard to tell, we know that they believe in multiple gods who control the forces of nature such as lightning. Similarly it's also been shown that prior to Senku's arrival, they believed themselves to be the only humans on earth, at least some of them believed the earth was flat, and most bizarrely, they believed the moon was something akin to a floating lake, owning to its small apparent size, however that works.
Tumblr media
Perhaps they took note of how water tends to form spheres due to surface tension? This reminds me of how some scientist a few centuries ago (but idr who at this moment) believed the moon to be a solid mass of congealed air.
The last thing I want to bring up is the Ishigami village rope, reportedly made with a special technique that's unique to them.
It is also said that the rope reflects rank and profession somehow, but this is not reflected in any noticeable way on the series itself. Boichi probably hadn't been told about this when he designed all 40 known villagers in the span of one week.
The rope is worn somewhere around the body, and it contains a single red thread spun into it, serving as a symbol of kinship among them.
Tumblr media
For now I'll leave it at that, as it's getting pretty late in the day, and pretty much all of this is written on the wiki article to begin with. Hope you enjoyed it, I'll see you all some other day.

Chapter 232 Trivia (Part 1)
This is it… The final chapter.
Tumblr media
The Perseus and American planes get one final appearance, in color!
They must have landed a ways away from shore since Senku caught a fish, but the new Perseus isn't an aircraft carrier so how far did the plane fly?
I wonder if Charlotte is piloting it…
Tumblr media
The choice of a land vs water return has historically depended on the geography of the country sending the rocket up: Russia has a lot of land, so the Soyuz capsules are made for land, and the US is surrounded by water so they've traditionally used that instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since Treasure Island is an island, they opted for a water landing. Both types of landing have advantages and disadvantages, it just depends on which risks you'd rather take.
The Soyuz capsules Byakuya's team came down on are designed for both water and land, but because they don't have the same flotation devices that the Apollo ones have, they can't right themselves after landing. The capsules naturally float anyways.
Tumblr media
In Senku's case, the top flotation devices weren't needed, but it's odd that the buoyancy ring was already inflated upon touchdown— wouldn't the impact make them burst, or flip the capsule upside down? It's also unusual that they'd exit before the recovery vehicle reached them.
Maybe they were worried about Ryusui-the-stowaway using up all the air inside so they decided to open it early?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can't be sure of where they touched down since there's not enough landmass shown to identify anything, but given the celebration was held in Japan and the Perseus came to pick them up, it's a fair assumption that they landed in a similar area to the original Soyuz Six.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sure most people have noticed how Kohaku has fallen asleep on the stage and Stanley is going through a nicotine withdrawal/acting as if it was a proper military medal ceremony, but I doubt most people noticed that Ryusui is actually meant to be 7 cm taller than Stanley…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone's asking who this girl is, but I genuinely think she's just a random extra person, unless Boichi decided to recolor Kohaku with brown hair just to throw us off one last time. Another guess is that she's the girl with glasses from the 1st light novel, but without glasses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It appears the villager criteria has expanded even further past simply allowing outsiders— outer space is now fair game! Their new friend is officially a member of Ishigami Village!
Tumblr media
The bar in the middle of the E is also missing in E=mc², which I guess is a pretty E-Z mistake to make haha!
(Since it's now c=mc² does that mean we can simplify to m=1/c? 🤔 )
Tumblr media
The area reminds me of the DARPA expo in the national park rather than Corn City, so it may be a new town based around where the Americans had originally revived. It has a defensive wall which is unusual, so it may be a military research base or to protect against wolf attacks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm also a little disappointed they opted for cars and roads rather than trains, especially leaving the town, since America is very well suited for a rail network.
Tumblr media
This plane is unlikely to be the piston-type propeller plane that we saw earlier, but rather a turboprop: a propeller in front of a jet engine, Xeno's specialty. These types of engines are better for short flights (<480 km) because they're more efficient over short distances.
Tumblr media
Because of the slower travel, they can handle shorter runways better, but I'm not sure that's much of a problem when landing on the ocean.
Traditional jets are better for long distances like, say, the 8,500 km journey Gen took to get from America to Japan.
Did Francois and Gen leave Suika at the airport!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gen could be talking about the old outfit design, or, because the leather didn't fully deteriorate in the 7.5 year time skip (we can see this from some of the other outfits), it could literally be the same outfit from the Stone Wars, but patched up a little.
Tumblr media
I assume this was because Francois is a more important character, but they could have gotten Carlos, the driver by trade, to bring Gen to the wedding.
Though he probably didn't want to leave miss Luna alone…
Tumblr media
Hair grows ~6in/15cm per year, and the average women's head size is 8.6in/21cm, so assuming Yuzuriha didn't cut too much off, her hair grew around 10.9 in/27.7cm, therefore 2 years have passed.
This isn't perfect because Mirai's hair didn't grow as long, but it's an estimate!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These people are Yuzuriha's parents (despite the father's striking resemblance to Taiju), since Taiju's parents are long dead.
Tumblr media
Another shooting stance comparison! Stanley is obviously cool and using only one hand, but Yo is using two hands. The number of hands doesn't affect accuracy, but cops are generally trained to use two hands since it's more stable when firing consecutive bullets.

Chapter 232 Trivia (Part 2)
(Previous part)
Spot the difference!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chelsea can apparently rival the villager ladies in terms of strength, hauling a basket larger than she is full of rocks!
I wonder if Soyuz also polishes his head like that…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chrome saying he wants to marry Ruri after they finish some mystery project: fair enough, means he wants to be able to focus on his wife. Chrome saying he wants to marry Ruri after they finish a time machine, which Gen says "could take millennia"...
Tumblr media
I found Tsukasa's words here odd, since to an extent it implies that no one will be greedy or seek out power over others ever again. Given the importance of the revived scientists now, you have to wonder if the new world is a technocracy, which was exactly what Xeno wanted.
Tumblr media
So I don't think SAL 9000's house has suddenly grown twentyfold since this looks like it's on one of the other sides of Roppongi Hills, but that doesn't make it any less incredibly huge. Why is it so big!?
Tumblr media
With the small heels, this Senku-twin seems to also be of a similar height to actual Senku since she's slightly shorter than Gen.
Tumblr media
Extremely simplified, what the scientists are saying is that the Medusas float by negating their mass, and petrification is the reverse effect where extra mass is given instead.
Tumblr media
The problem? It would be against everything we currently know about physics, potentially destroying everything since atoms wouldn't act as atoms anymore. I can't speculate on whether or not this would work if it happened, because fundamentally things aren't acting as expected.
You'll also notice that the changing mass/Higgs field explanation won't answer anything about the petrification's healing properties, but I suppose this is a science-fiction story, emphasis on the fiction!
There's a biohazard symbol on the door where Senku is working, which means there's something causing a risk to human/environmental health. Since Senku isn't wearing any special PPE and the time machine doesn't work, I can only assume the risk is from the Medusa being in there!
Tumblr media
I also think it's neat that the biohazard symbol and the Medusa are both trefoils.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is obviously a reference to chapter 1, specifically the first two pages. The dialog is almost the same and Senku's working on a similar device.
How far they've come!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite being in modern clothes (and shoes!) again, Senku's is still wearing Suika's cloak 🥺
Not sure about the safety of wearing a cloak like that in a lab environment though…
Tumblr media
I wonder if Yuzuriha made the cake toppers! They look similar to the dolls she made of herself, Taiju, and Senku.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't have confirmation either way, but I wonder if this project was what Senku proposed in the previous chapter to the rest of Whyman. It makes sense because time travel follows on from being able to float as the devices do, as well as from the Medusa's comment this chapter.
Tumblr media
(If you're confused about how time travel and floating are related, it's because of E=mc². Extremely simplified again, if the Medusas can float by reducing their mass to 0, then the E=mc² equation applies differently—
—allowing objects with 0 mass to behave like light, and travel at that speed. (E=mc² is not the full equation, notice how there's no velocity component!) Once you're traveling at the speed of light… Who knows what'll happen. No one's done it before! Maybe it'll be time travel!)
Can't have a time machine without referencing the time machine from "The Time Machine" (1960) based on the book "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the beginning, Senku's goal has been about saving all 7 billion people. Given the number of broken statues, Senku was unlikely to be able to save everyone from the start. But with time travel, he may be able to do it, and save countless petrification devices in the process.
Tumblr media
You're probably wondering how that's even possible when there's thousands of people who were born in stone world who would be erased from existence if the last 3,700 years didn't happen, and my answer to that is: Senku will find a way to save everyone.
Tumblr media
(I'm also of the opinion that the time machine is meant to represent intent rather than be literal: it shows the KoS is still trying to push the boundaries of science, that Senku's desire to save everyone isn't over yet, and also time travel is usually the ultimate sci-fi goal.)
This picture of Rei doesn't make the events of the Reboot canon, Rei is only here to represent Xeno's idea of transmitting advanced technological data into the past rather than a whole person.
Tumblr media
A quick summary of the things listed in this roadmap:
Higgs field controller: this is what the Medusas use to float/petrify, thus it's hypertech.
Helium: used for superconductors/particle accelerators since liquid helium is very good at cooling.
Superconductor & magnet: as labelled, has 0 electrical resistance. A current through a SC wire can persist indefinitely without a power source. Therefore you can have a super powerful magnet without needing to add more electricity.
Cyclotron: particle accelerator, think CERN.
Particle beam: in this case, think of the cathode ray tubes (CRT screens) on steroids.
Ion getter pump: a type of vacuum pump, for making ultra-high vacuums.
Semiconductor: used to make computer chips, much better than parametrons.
CW generator: converts low-voltage AC to high DC voltage.
Maraging steel: strong, tough steel that stretches rather than snaps.
Light-speed cyclotron motor: gives you 0 mass and allows you to reach light-speed, I assume.
(There's a few bits I skipped but I think they're fairly self-explanatory.)
Tumblr media
A fun fact: both the first and last issues of Dr. STONE happened to be issue #14 in WSJ, which you may remember is a recurring number in the series since it can be read as "i-shi" meaning "stone".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a similar vein, the Higgs boson (a particle related to the petrification devices' explanation) was discovered at CERN on July 4th 2012. Exactly five years later, the first volume of Dr. STONE was released in Japan.
Tumblr media
There's a few questions left unanswered by the series, like "what did Gen tell Francois to say to Whyman in chapter 201?" and whether or not Senku's new friend took a name: Whyman? Medusa? Tamagotchi-kun? Senku Jr.? Byakuya?
End of trivia!
Tumblr media
Don't forget that the series ending doesn't mean the fandom has to die! If you enjoyed the series, I recommend joining community servers, taking on projects like cosplays or building things, or writing your own ending!
If you're really cool, you'll help complete the wiki...

Chapter 231 Trivia
"Aaaaaaaah primitive technology noooooooooooo!"
Tumblr media
This is definitely worth looking at closely: we have post-America-arc Chrome shedding a tear, young Suika again, Ishigami Village, the Soyuz capsule…
Oddly, Senku's chest piece is missing and Byakuya's name may be incorrectly spelled in Cyrillic (Б НШНГАМН vs Б ИШИГАМИ)
Tumblr media
We get some insight into how the Medusas see things: we already know they can sense EM waves from chapter 229, and especially radio waves, but they may be able to selectively filter which wavelengths they see.
Tumblr media
If they could only see radio, then it'd be impossible to see bones as the waves pass right through us. Given the image, it's very likely they're using x-rays to examine the people, but if that's true then the gun would appear as a bright white rather than partially transparent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's possible that they can see all wavelengths at once, and they're able to parse what would be "pure white" to us in such a way that they can selectively see the "layer" they want, but even picking a specific wavelength to view would result in the gun blocking the bones.
Tumblr media
Alternatively, they only emit a specific range of waves at once and see what gets returned (like radar), but they'd have to know which wavelengths to use without knowing anything first. This echolocation seems slightly more likely since we have panels of them emitting waves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's possible that that's why they interpreted the humans as skeletons: they chose to see in x-rays rather than in the visible spectrum (=our vision) and thus only saw bones.
Maybe they assumed both the space suit and "meat suit" (skin, muscle, organs) were the same thing?
It's amusing how the Medusas scanned Senku, but then didn't bother making a perfect copy: the skull is more realistic/less manga, and his hair is upright, despite it being flattened against his head because of the helmet.
Not even they can make his hair look good though…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By mimicking Senku here, the Medusas effectively fulfilled all the previous depictions of Whyman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Senku uses "me" and "us" here, but he does only mean "me"— the time between his revival in April 5738 and this date* is 10 years, not counting the 7.5 years he spent petrified. Apart from maybe Xeno, no one else shares the same timeline.
*(~Sept 5755, if it's exactly 10.)
Tumblr media
List of weapons on the moon:
Grenade-net launcher.
Stone axe.
And the latter was the one that drove them away, haha!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xeno was one of the ones most excited about what the Medusa tech could mean for humanity, which is why he looks especially grim when they decided to call humans pea-brained one last time before fleeing the solar system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have no idea how they retrieved the capsule since it and the Medusa inside seemed to disappear into the swarm, and the one that chose to stay didn't bring it back. It's also definitely the same capsule (with a few new additions) because the broken string is the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The capsule got a little upgrade to make it easier for the Medusa to communicate: the speaker was moved to the outside, and was replaced with a tiny Yagi–Uda antenna!
The antenna type is mostly for clarity, because at that range a monopole would have worked, or even none at all.
Tumblr media
I'd like to think this Medusa has an affinity for Kohaku, since it chose to give itself up to her. They also had a nice conversation together! :)
(I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact the other two were holding things at the time & Kohaku is the least busy one onboard…)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This piece coming off the main rocket is the ascent stage of the lunar lander. Similar to how parts of the rocket come off when leaving Earth, the ascent stage only gets the astronauts back to the rocket before it is discarded, destined to fall back to the surface of the moon.
Tumblr media
The moon bunnies have a little 'x' for a mouth, and the capsule's face has a mouth shaped like that too… Coincidence?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder who drew the face:
Senku, because he had a marker and likes drawing faces on things?
Kohaku, for fun?
Stanley, for the gap moe/Xeno 'x' (and because it seems like something he'd do somehow)?
Ryusui, to welcome his new crewmate?
Tumblr media
If we'd gotten a name/species as an answer, then fans would inevitably be disappointed by not meeting them after they'd been hinted at, or been angry at how "unrealistic" whatever they got was.
This may not be a satisfying answer for some, but the alternatives are much less so.
Tumblr media
I love this admission of Kohaku's, does she not have anything to think about!?

Chapter 230 Trivia
We've had 3 chapters of nothing but Medusa backstory and content and I am living for it.
Tumblr media
Oak trees are symbols of strength, endurance and heritage, and bring the idea of mighty growth from tiny, humble beginnings in the West. But in Japan, this relation doesn't seem to exist. If anything, Japanese oak would make you think of bokken (wooden practice swords).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oxygen rusts the devices' components, which is why the pile in Manaus was full of duds that didn't work, even with a new battery.
Modern components are stored in plastic/epoxy, ceramics, or even glass. Glass can last for thousands of years… Problem solved?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(If the solution ends up being to put the Medusas in glass bubbles (~chapter 29) that hold a vacuum (~chapter 53/58 depending on which vacuum pump they use), the fact the devices wanted a technologically advanced civilization in order to live forever will be pretty funny…)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New angle for the pyramid! This time we don't see any of the "petrified trees" or whatever they were, unless we only see the tops of the "trees" and not the "roots"?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This cover page is reminiscent of one of the illustrations from way back in volume 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is another example of the Medusas on the moon having no idea what's happening on Earth: they believe that by copying what Senku did (what they'd heard over the radio), they'd activate a device. What they didn't realize was that the signal was getting converted to sound.
Tumblr media
The oxygen does more than decay the devices' components: it prevents them moving. Whether or not they can still think in this state is unknown, but it makes you wonder if they understand the fear of being petrified…
Tumblr media
The Medusas make it sound like they're familiar with other species that are much more mentally developed than humans, but I wonder how much quicker they were expecting humanity to wake up because of that. A hundred years? Ten? Only a few months?
Tumblr media
There was no hesitation in the Medusas' actions here, and it makes me wonder about Senku's goals: are we going to have to wait chapters to find out what Senku wants to do, like we did with Xeno's blinking (Araxá) or what Gen asked Francois to tell Whyman (we still don't know)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doing this may also have cost him the trust of everyone on Earth: this is objectively a very concerning move to make when the fate of every living human is in your hands, and most of them don't know you very well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stanley aiming his tiny grenade net launcher at the huge swarming mass of Medusas is pretty silly looking, but I can appreciate the effort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Medusas made a living Faraday cage to block all of the radio waves, but because of the apparent density of the ball, I'm not sure there's any light getting in there either.
Tumblr media
I thought this chapter was clearer than the other chapters so I didn't include as much explanation.
If you are confused, I highly recommend rereading and focusing on Gen's simplifications.

Chapter 229 Trivia (Part 2)
(Previous part)
Another image from the (non-canon) spinoff, Dr. STONE Reboot: Byakuya! This time, they merged two panels to include the children.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since this is about 3,000 years after the petrification, it means Matsukaze came from some time around 5000 AD, and he was petrified for ~700 years before the KoS woke him up.
Tumblr media
Electric sparks can produce radio waves, especially when traveling though a large conductive thing, like an antenna.
In this case, the antenna are feathers, but the person's arms would work just as well if not better, unless the feathers are soaked with sea water.
Tumblr media
By this logic, Chrome with his polished ball of sulfur could have summoned a third wave of Medusas down to Ishigami Village, and Shovel's twin pigtails could have meant she'd be the one getting spoken to by Whyman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's interesting to note that the devices on the moon seem to have no idea what's happening on Earth. They detect the waves and start phase 2 of their plan even though they're not sure who the people down there really are.
Tumblr media
This "phase 2" I assume was to prove to humanity that this incredible power could be theirs, but it backfired entirely when humanity decided to destroy itself and the devices too. The fact that the Medusas are said to have doubts is interesting as well, they knew they messed up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's 2 ways of interpreting this: either the Medusas were getting anxious because the still-petrified humans weren't taking action (I'm not sure how they thought that would work?), or the Medusas wanted the Islanders to help them since they thought they were humanity's best.
Tumblr media
Senku gets abs, Stanley gets abs, but Xeno doesn't even get nipples.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this explains the "Why", but it doesn't explain why they chose Morse code, and definitely doesn't help explain whose voice or what code they used to tell that young Treasure Island girl how to work the devices. Maybe it was simply the main communication styles they overheard?
Tumblr media
Where did they come from? Why would someone design a parasite? To find and later take over other worlds? How many worlds have the Medusas parasitized?

Chapter 229 Trivia (Part 1)
How can a chapter that is nothing but answers create so many questions?
Tumblr media
This is a very narrator-heavy chapter. All of the square word boxes (which is, frankly, most of them) are not directly the Medusa's words, but the narrator. This is also why the speech is normal.
If you're bored, reread the chapter but use Mecha Senku's voice for the narration.
Tumblr media
This is a silly statement because EM waves include so many types of wave: visible light, infrared, microwave, and of course radio. Even if you filter by regularity, I still think this is a huge number of planets (and stars!) to check.
Tumblr media
By narrowing it to radio waves, you lessen the number of false positives, but it won't be reduced to 0. We receive radio waves from other planets, but none indicate life. Most of our "alien broadcasts" come from pulsars, fast radio bursts, and whatever caused the Wow! signal.
Tumblr media
Radio waves from our planet have only reached about 100 light years away, which means the Medusas came from somewhere within the area.
It's a very big area.
Tumblr media
The birds are back and their identities are still unknown…
I won't go into details since I already wrote an essay, but now I'm wondering if they're actually a hybrid of two swallow species, which makes the Medusa DNA targeting questionable…
Tumblr media
The Medusa claims it was an arbitrary species, but it's suspiciously perfect that they chose a species that stays near humans and is nearly global rather than an almost-extinct beetle on some remote island, or something microscopic.
I suppose humans did have to find it…
Tumblr media
We have confirmation that the petri-beam did in fact use DNA-based targeting, but what's more is that the beam is only visible to the targets, rather than being invisible or on a wavelength the birds could see but the humans couldn't.
Tumblr media
The other point of interest is that the beam isn't light, but appears as light to the targets. What the "stuff" is that we see as light is still unknown. Does this mean the black mass on the moon is only visible to humans right now, or is it something else? Is the same mechanic that makes the Medusas invisible on radar responsible for this? Is that why no one saw any Medusas on the ground, because they were invisible to our eyes?
In a complete non-answer, we get that the petri-beam triggers an elemental phase change.
This is a fancy way of saying "turns you solid/to stone".
I wonder if we'll get more than this about how it works…
Tumblr media
This is some next-level YouTube prank.
Tumblr media
The narrator claims that the most intelligent species will recognize that the device grants eternal life, but Xeno seemed to be the only one in the world who noticed the statues were even still alive.
The Medusas sort of jumped the gun with the first petrification, haha!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This location is actually Manaus, specifically the Teatro Amazonas (Amazon Theatre) with the Rio Negro in the far background.
If you recognize the name, it's because it was the source of the petrification and the location of the big Medusa pile.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Advertisements! Several of these are meta references, as you've probably figured out.
Tumblr media
The usage of "easier" seems to imply that it would be possible to revive without nitric acid entirely, as long as the being thinks for long enough.
I wonder how long it'd take Senku and Xeno to revive without any acid at all; 5,000 years? 10,000? More?
Tumblr media
The Medusas seem to believe that the thinkers of the community would then have the skills & drive to want to live forever, and thus would help them.
They didn't account for Earth's biggest nerds to have access to things like "video games", "anime" and maybe even "a social life".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xeno was definitely the ideal candidate for the Medusas, but unfortunately for them, Senku got to him first.

Chapter 228 Trivia
This was me thinking about all the possibilities this chapter gives us for the finale. What an epic reveal!
Tumblr media
We got to have a better look at the naming on the space suits: it actually says "KOHAKU11" instead of "KOHAKO11", and we can confirm it does in fact say "SENKU11".
Tumblr media
It appears the Medusas can hover at will. While previously it seemed like they only hovered when activated (unconfirmed, given we only have still images), the ability may not be tied to the wave of force the petri-beam gives out as expected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hints of the Medusa's ability to speak may have began as far back as chapter 146, where Matsukaze offhandedly mentions the voice that accompanied the devices potentially explaining how to work them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's unclear if these phrases are spoken in English, or if they're Morse. There's no comment about the voice they're using so it may still be Senku's, but there's also "KZT" which could indicate Morse. The speech bubbles are formatted the same as the original times in chp 95/201.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While in English the Medusas seem to speak with the words slightly out of order, and possibly unusual word choice in the case of the Medusa outside the capsule, in Japanese they're not conjugating properly instead.
Tumblr media
A quick example: here it says "yamero nasai", literally "stop please" in English. The translation I've used here isn't perfect though, because "yamero" is the root form, the equivalent of using "to be" rather than "I am" in a phrase. The proper Japanese would be "yame nasai".
Tumblr media
As you've probably noticed, "(to) stop" is both the root form and conjugated present form in English, so this difference would be missed if left as-is.
If they go forward with fitting the Medusas with new batteries, the value of diamonds may go up a lot. Though, It should be noted that their worth nowadays is inflated via advertising campaigns and artificial scarcity.
There may also be alternative power sources to be found too.
Tumblr media
Speaking of batteries, we have a nice close-up shot of the diamond battery in the Medusa. It appears located on the surface, but it's still not definite if it's part of the structure resembling an LED that was noted way back in chapter 139.
(But really, where else could it be?)
Tumblr media
How did Stanley react to the activation click? It's not like you'd be able to see that, and I doubt the Medusa has a microphone listening to it, only a speaker in the capsule, and they're in space…
Tumblr media
It's hard to be benevolent and parasites simultaneously; it's possible they had multiple motives to petrify people. Parasites specifically derive benefits at the expense of their host, so if the Medusa is agreeing to what Xeno said over the radio, it may not be a good thing.
Tumblr media
For one, it's possible they're only here because they used up all the resources of their previous host, and ultimately they'll destroy humanity and potentially the Earth as well.
It's also unclear whether or not they're still being made and how they appeared on the moon the first place, but Senku seems to conclude that they are unable to self-replicate/breed without a host.
Tumblr media
In the case that the Medusa is agreeing to what Senku said here instead, then the devices may not be as bad as expected, though I'll have to say petrifying all of humanity at once probably wasn't a great idea if they wanted our help.
Tumblr media
It also seems odd how many of the devices effectively sacrificed themselves, resulting in the pyramid in South America. It would have made more sense to do what they did on Treasure Island and have the humans experience the devices without hitting them all with the beam at once.
Tumblr media
If I'm misunderstanding Senku's words here, and activating the beam extends their life somehow, the relationship formed may be more symbiotic than parasitic.
Maybe they decay while unused, but firing drains their batteries?
Tumblr media
I can't wait!! Do they know their creator? Will they explain how the beam works? Why South America? How do the birds come into play? Does each device have their own personality? Do they share information, or are they individuals? Are they inert in an atmosphere?
Tumblr media
(I'm also really curious if the "Rendezvous with Rama" book Senku was reading in one of the WSJ banners will come up more, given that the book's plot now has several points in common with Dr. Stone. Maybe the Medusas are biots?)

Chapter 227 Trivia (Part 2)
(Previous part)
People seemed to be muddling the events of the last few pages, so I'll share my observations here. They're by no means the complete, definitive answer and my conclusions can obviously be flawed, but here we go:
The Medusa activates, and all three astronauts watch as it goes off. I believe Senku and Stanley then turn back to start righting the rover, but Kohaku notices something about the beam, prompting them to stop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She then confirms that what she had seen on the monitors on Earth matches the resulting haze left by the activation.
Tumblr media
The point of view then switches to Senku who, upon viewing the haze and hearing Kohaku's comment, puts the pieces together and declares that he knows who Whyman was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note that the reactions of the people on Earth are because Senku has said this, not necessarily because they see and recognize someone. We don't even know if the astronauts have live video feeds, only that they have radio communication.
Tumblr media
Now obviously this has been translated to English so there could be slight misunderstandings happening, but I believe Senku hasn't actually seen anyone at this point. He uses "was" rather than "is" when accusing.
Tumblr media
He's only added another piece to what Kohaku had said: that a Medusa had been activated on the moon previously, and it was visible from Earth.
Tumblr media
If this is the case, then Whyman is most likely using the device (possibly frequently) to depetrify and repetrify themselves as needed. The other option is that they used it once around the original petrification, and the smog has lasted for 3,700 years.
It's speculation, but it could also explain why Senku says "closer than we knew": everyone on Earth at this point has experienced petrification. If Senku is simply assuming they're looking for a stone statue, it makes sense to say they were always close by.
Tumblr media
It doesn't entirely answer why Senku says Whyman was "you", unless he's talking directly to the Medusa or it's sensationalist.
Note also that the speech bubbles for "The perpetrator […] thousands of years ago" are different, and probably aren't being said by Senku.
Tumblr media
It's also amusing to consider that if Whyman is in fact a petrified human, then what was basically the very first thought about them was correct.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately I don't have the Japanese raws yet so I can't compare languages, but it does seem that this is the first time Whyman uses Japanese rather than English to communicate.

Dr. Stone chapter 3D trivia post
Hello, um. I hope yall had a pleasant solstice celebration of your choice- I've been pondering whether what we just saw merits a triva post, but let's try to squeeze some for the sake of completion, shall we?
Check out also my trivia posts for chapters 1D and 2D.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're the same picture.
Tumblr media
It took me way too long to notice what was off in this cover, it seems to be nothing but an aesthetic choice. Other than these off colors, this specific suika melon design first appeared during the Treasure island arc, right after Ryusui punted her off the Perseus.
To directly quote what I wrote at one time on the wiki:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Too bad, the ship Chelsea shows up in is not the Perseus D. Monkey from chapter 214 (which itself is a One Piece reference, as Boichi is a big fan).
Interesting that we get a nearly identical shot, instead of Kohaku standing behind her, it's Ruri and Matsukaze.
Tumblr media
This posture done my Matsukaze is called Namaste (with other names such as Namaskar), which is used both as a greeting and as an indication of reverence all over the southern parts of Asia, along with other similar gestures. I know this is familiar to many myself included but I had never looked into the deeper details until now.
Figurines showing this pose have been excavated from the Indus valley civilization dating to between 2700 and 2100 BCE, making this piece of cultural heritage at least 7800 years old by the time of this panel.
Tumblr media
Xeno has clearly had his hand in the architecture of the Japan side of the KoS, with some new constructions resembling his own Evil Disneyland back home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hold back yer tears
Tumblr media
Kaseki has lived well. It's hard to tell how old he is now, he lived longer than the timeline's consistency thats for sure, I blame time travel.
At the time Taiju got wed, he was around 70 years old.
Kaseki and Chrome go back way further than the KoS, the fanbook tells us that Kaseki helped Chrome build his shed when he was just a boy.
Tumblr media
Feel your heart a bit shakey? hang on there, we now get to talk about whyman's sorrow, and a small observation that I've made
Tumblr media
Whyman can have emotions, the circuits that process that can be switched on and off, but the fact that a message can, or needs to be "left" for themselves, as well as his farewell for all eternity, has an interesting implication: once switched off, whyman loses the recollection of any experience they had in the meantime. These circuits allow whyman to feel, and also to then forget. This is useful, as emotions help them survive, but forgetting prevents the emotional baggage from growing infinitely over a virtually immortal life.
"If we remembered every single parting person, it would only be a few generations before the sorrow would pile up to the point it became unbearable. Maybe it is a blessing to forget. Forgetting allows us to get even. Forget sorrows as new ones replace them. Life can go on, if tragically. No accumulating loss that would one day make everyone struggle to survive and eventually pass on; though that last thing does also sound very much like today."
(10B points to the ~2 people who know where this quote is from, I digress)
So that's cool, and heartbreaking, but so what, does it connect to anything we've seen before?
Well...
Tumblr media
In ch. 232 we see that Whyman does not know what created them.
How could that be, if they can remember things over deep time?
Maybe it is that Whyman chose to forget their creators, and everything they felt about them. Beings that they may even have loved in the deep deep past, and could not cope with yearning for.
Tumblr media
The blonde, bangs & ponytail lineage.
Tumblr media
The village graveyard. Last time we saw it, Byakuya's gravestone was opened to reveal the glass record.
A lot of recognizable headstones are still up now, some appear to have moved.
Other headstones might be gone or be different... The one with four dots that was there originally can't be seen in this new shot but it can be seen later in the chapter.
Also, I hate to break this to you, but there's more headstones now than there were before.
I counted 45 in the original shot, 50 in the new one, not including any that Chelsea and Senku may be covering. Granted this is likely just an oversight.
(I should mention that in order for them to match bottom to bottom, the top image is flipped horizontally).
Tumblr media
(omg look at the babiesss)
What Xeno is telling Chrome is that if whyman went and altered their own past, then what they are seeing currently is the result of that, since whatever changes they made, are in the past after all.
They already happened and they are part of the timeline that leads them to where they are now.
Assuming they actually found Byakuya (or a petrified time traveler) means that either whyman created some sort of causal loop that is self sustaining (ie, the ramifications of the changes in the past include whyman going back to do them in the first place), or more in line with the many worlds hypothesis, that going back to the past and changing it creates a new parallel timeline where the repercussions of that happen, with no effect in the first one.
In the latter case it means the timeline we see now was altered by the whyman from a parallel universe.
Tumblr media
The stone axe is a bit dissonant with where they are, technologically speaking, yes? Thing is, that's the one Senku took to the moon with him.
Tumblr media
He's had it since chapter 1.
Tumblr media
A few people I've seen mystified about this structure they unearthed at the cementery:
Tumblr media
This is a collapsed building just like the structures that the Tsukasa empire occupied.
Tumblr media
(shoutout to that guy about to die in the back)
Interestingly, this means that Ishigami Village is established on top of a once urban area.
I am always pumped for any extra bits of village lore I can get.
Tumblr media
Did Suika's handwriting trigger your AI generated image senses? it did for me.
Tumblr media
We were bamboozled again. If it ends up happening it's gonna be like the tale of the wolf. The moment we stop taking it seriously, Inagaki is gonna smack us across the head with it.
We were actually preparing for the poop on a stick to hit the f.a.a.n on discord. What do I make about the ending? I don't know, I got no big analysis this time around but I believe it's very likely we'll see more at some point.

Chapter 227 Trivia (Part 1)
I hope everyone's enjoying wondering who or what Senku saw in that black cloud…
Tumblr media
The Medusa's capsule is a small radio receiver with a speaker to relay commands. This means that all the astronauts can speak to it, and since Whyman could pretend to be Senku, then they could have also activated the device directly.
Tumblr media
Rather than all being on the same frequency, each astronaut has their own. This means they can all talk at the same time without needing to wait if someone else is transmitting, and also means they may have some sort of indicator for who's talking.
This means that Kohaku can hear Senku and Stanley talk, but she can't hear herself because her own frequency is blocked out to avoid echoes. This is why Senku doesn't seem to react to Whyman nor know what's going on, but Stanley reacts strongly. This is confirmed by Ukyo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder if the on/off includes receiving radio transmissions, or if it's just about the seal being on/off.
Tumblr media
The current land speed record on the moon is only 18 km/h (11.2 mph) by the Apollo 17 Lunar Rover.
I feel like even with the reduced gravity, Stanley is driving faster than that.
Tumblr media
The Taurus-Littrow valley was chosen as the destination for the Apollo 17 mission because of its geological value. It is located on the lunar highland (=not one of the dark patches) and has some volcanic material as well.
It's also got "orange soil" (volcanic glass beads).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon, but it was also the longest (<75 hours) and most ambitious. They collected 155kg (253lbs) of rock samples for analysis.
Nothing noteworthy seemed to have happened on this mission that could've pointed to Whyman's involvement.
Tumblr media
An interesting coincidence…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rover I believe was inspired by a very recent collaboration between JAXA and Nissan for an unmanned lunar rover. Notably it has a boxy body and no guards over any of the 4 wheels. It's obviously been redesigned to hold people, with elements taken from the NASA rovers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The astronauts have variants of their names written on their backs: "STANLEE11" and "KOHAKO11". Senku's isn't fully visible but you can see what looks like an "-U11", so his may simply be "SENKU11".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the capsule didn't open fully, going by the little black line drawn on the top, but it opened enough to break the seal, making the atmosphere inside escape.
It's interesting that Whyman chose to put the Medusa in a vacuum rather than simply using the radio/speaker directly: they obviously knew how the Medusa was being stored since they asked Kohaku to open it.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if Stan hit the brakes here or if he drove into a hole because he wasn't looking where he was going. If he hit the brakes, it seemed unhelpful since Kohaku was then spinning midair when she had to throw it.
You can also see Stan landing perfectly and Senku falling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another thing of note is that Kohaku seems to have snapped the string sometime between Stanley grabbing her wrist and her throwing it, which I think is impressive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's hard to tell because we don't know how far Kohaku threw it, but the radius of this one may be the same as the one that happened in chapter 213/214 (~20 meters according to Senku).
On the image it appears a little over 13 meters.

Chapter 226 Trivia
Senku's now been in space longer than Byakuya had. (~70 hours vs. over 3 days)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As predicted, the communication issues were fixed easily.
Tumblr media
I found the timeline here pretty confusing, because Gen seems to know that Ryusui went into space and then suddenly doesn't, and the 5th part of the rocket appears to have gotten connected without us seeing it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe the correct reading is that from the last panel of page 3, it's a flashback to the time between the astronauts finding the electrical issue and telling ground control, and the time before part 4 of the rocket launches.
Tumblr media
Thus, Gen's confusion was about Ryusui going in the first place. Then it immediately switches back to present time again. This is corroborated by the fact Gen is in two completely separate locations, so it's possible the "hm?" happened soon after watching the launch outside.
Tumblr media
Senku's cozy comment is referring to the chamber the astronauts sit in, which was a tight squeeze even before Ryusui got added to the mix.
I wish we got to see how they fit him in haha!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dark patch on the moon looks like Mare Moscoviense, a basaltic plain. It's probably not the Whyman patch Kohaku identified earlier.
The Apollo 13 mission also passed by the same spot on their trip around the dark side of the moon: (1:23)*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sextants: useful since 5739!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Radio waves can't go through the moon, so the astronauts will lose comms with Earth while on the far side. This begs the question of how Whyman's own radio signal reached the earth. If really located on the far side, a separate antenna would be needed on the near side for this.
Tumblr media
Chrome has exactly one setting and it's "baaaaad"!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moz was last shown in chapter 191, with Kirisame a little more recently as one of the old people in chapter 198.
Hopefully these aren't their final appearances…
Tumblr media
A word is missing here, I assume it should be "of course you haven't!"
Tumblr media
New space suits! I'm not entirely sure why they have two sets, but this one is closer to the Apollo mission suits with a softer body. You can also see Senku still has that same belt from before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The more interesting parts of this outfit are the revival watch worn on the outside (how will that work?) and the protrusions on his chest and helmet. Normally the chest part is for life support systems, but this one looks like it could be something else. A camera perhaps?
Tumblr media
This panel feels weird because the earth looks like the moon usually does…
Tumblr media
*Sadly this link no longer exists but if you can find the footage then you'll know what I'm talking about haha

Chapter 225 Trivia
POV: you are baby Ryusui and you're about to get fed mushed peas and caviar on a silver spoon. "Here comes the rocket! Nyoom!"
Tumblr media
The other half of the SSVP docking system! Look at that little probe, doing its job.
(I guess Stanley is doing his job too, but the probe helps him do those final tiny adjustments.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We already knew some English survived through the Hundred Tales. They mostly seem to be interjections of sorts, like "freeze!" or "congratulations!", and of course, numbers, as was shown in Kohaku's introduction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So ground control (Xeno and the others) can hear what's happening on the rocket, but the rocket can't hear anyone from ground control.
This shouldn't be permanent since the lunar lander Ryusui is on has a radio, and possibly the space suits have them as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's also still a fifth part of the rocket to be sent up, so if ground control doesn't attach the spare circuit board that they know the astronauts need from overhearing them over the radios, it'll be a bit silly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kohaku is on a space walk to remove the shielding from part 2 of the rocket. She props all the panels up, then it detaches & takes off away from the main rocket so there's space to attach part 3.
The cylindrical shielding was necessary to protect it on the way up (aerodynamics!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stanley succeeding to dock the spacecraft with only half a screen is nothing short of incredible, especially since he'd only done it for real once before.
If you want to try docking like Stanley, play this simulator with a piece of paper over your screen!
It's unusual for all the astronauts to be out at the same time, even if there's a lot of work to do outside the rocket. Normally astronauts only leave in pairs for safety reasons, like what they did at the sulfur lake almost 200 chapters ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the petrification stone is mostly made of iron & gold, it seems that it's also conductive, which is why this problem only appeared after the hair was petrified. It connected two capacitors (2 legs) to a transistor (3 legs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Normally I'd expect one of the capacitors to overload and explode, but in this case it looks like the hair exploded instead. This could be because one of the capacitors unloaded its stored charge into the hair, causing it to explode, like this.
Even though they look undamaged, the unexpected current passing though could have killed the components, so putting them back together may not work. Another problem is that there are conductive pieces now floating around the rocket, ready to do the same to other circuits.
Tumblr media
None of these labels seem to be real transistor/capacitor part numbers.
There also seems to be a little inconsistency with where the hair passes between the transistor's legs at the bottom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Senku's comment here is that they should have been petrified away from the rocket, and then brought onboard as statues to avoid random pieces of person getting petrified exactly like this.
Hindsight is 20/1.8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A condenser is the same thing as a capacitor, it's just an older word for it.
The reason Senku can't just replace the capacitor is because other parts may have been damaged, and they don't have the time (and maybe not even the tools) to know what's broken.
Tumblr media
So Ryusui made it to space with no space suit and without being petrified, and then almost immediately had to do some never-before-done maneuvers to reconvene with his fellow astronauts.
He probably weighs only 1/100th of the lunar lander he's piloting, so I suppose it's good he only needs delicate movements.
Well done Ryusui!
Tumblr media
Instead of those awful space suits the others had, Ryusui is wearing a completely new outfit based on the titular Space Pirate Captain Harlock, a manga series from the late 1970s which was later animated.
He's also got a revival watch on his left wrist.
Tumblr media
I'm sure most of you have heard of Newton's third law, "every action has an equal and opposite reaction". This is exactly what's happening here:
Ryusui is spinning himself around the craft to adjust the trajectory, though it may also be that he gave himself an impulse and is actually just starting and stopping the spin by grabbing on or not. Doing this manually is very difficult since a person's movement isn't balanced.
Tumblr media
Senku's E=mc^2 is back again!
He obviously missed and poked himself a few times trying to draw it, I wonder if the ink bled through the fabric onto his skin too haha!
Tumblr media
I hope the irony of Ryusui's actions here isn't lost on him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rocket not being able to hear what's happening on Earth sounds like a really good reason to have something bad happen down there… 👀

Chapter 224 Trivia
Happy birthday Senku! He's finally in space! 🎉🚀
Tumblr media
We can see the approximate distance to Treasure Island from the mainland in this shot, the only other indication of where the island is is in the (non-canon) Reboot side story. My guess is the exact island used is Aogashima.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another summary of the journey, this time including prehistory. We have depictions from the most recent ice age (though could be later, mammoths and sinomegaceros were around for a while afterwards, even in Japan), early civilization similar to Ishigami Village, and ancient Rome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the parts present in the manga itself, I've added the chapter numbers to each of the panels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The books Senku has here are "General Chemistry" and "たのしい 科学" ("Fun Science"). The latter may be a reference to a children's science education book series named "たのしい! 科学のふしぎ なぜ?どうして?" ("Fun! The Mysteries of Science: Why? How?").
Tumblr media
We get a glimpse of the docking system here. Possibly based off the SSVP, as it was used with almost all the Soyuz craft and Russian space stations to connect modules.
This docking area then opens up, becoming the transfer tunnel so astronauts can enter/exit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I suppose the astronauts were completely naked in their space suits so that when the revival fluid is released, their skin will definitely get touched?
I can't think of any other reason for it, but it does make the previous chapter funnier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Senku's petrification scars are now fully healed!
(Stanley's are too, poor Xeno is the only one with them now.)
Tumblr media
The mystery of how Stanley is meant to use these "cigarettes" remains.
Tumblr media
These belts are the middle part of the external space suit, so it's probably how the top and bottom parts are locked in. After they change, they tighten the fabric inside so that it stays attached to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not entirely sure why they need it, since current space suits usually just attach the top to the bottom directly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're using both CRT and LCD screens. My guess is the LCDs are more convenient (it's easier to display things from computer->LCD than it is to a CRT, also text is more legible due to the pixels), but they still have several CRTs from earlier so they may as well use them too.
Tumblr media
Stanley asks about their oxygen supply, meaning they may be limited until the rocket is assembled. Normally, there's recycling systems onboard to collect waste products and convert it into clean air or water, but Stanley and Xeno's discussion makes me think they don't have one.
Tumblr media
Obviously, the astronauts have new outfits, but they don't seem to follow any previous astronaut outfits depicted in the series.
Senku's popped collar is still present, but now he lacks his signature equation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stanley's outfit changed the least, it remains form-fitting and solid black, with white gloves.
Oddly, Kohaku is still wearing a dress in space, but it's a lot neater and more modern than her previous roughly-hemmed one. She's also got both long socks and boots without a heel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The spray dryer does a similar preservation process to what they did when freeze-drying ramen, however this process is better for foods (and pharmaceuticals) that are sensitive to temperature.
Here, they dry a liquid (like ramen broth) using a hot gas, turning it into a powder.
Tumblr media
In true Francois fashion, the ramen packets made by them contain more meat and garnishes than the ones Byakuya ate. They're also visibly more delicious-looking.
Tumblr media
Without regular boosts, the ISS would fall to Earth in around 6 months, however this number can vary a lot depending on atmospheric conditions and the relative angle/position of the ISS to the direction of travel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically, unless someone/something continued to control it almost immediately, the ISS is definitely gone.
(Rei didn't, the Reboot isn't canon.)

Chapter 223 Trivia (Part 1)
The final chapter of 2021! This time last year, Senku and the others were crossing the Andes and Suika almost died falling into a canyon.
How time flies!
(...Unlike Suika.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The astronauts are training underwater to simulate space's weightlessness. You'll notice they have frames around them. This is to ensure neutral buoyancy: they'll neither float to the surface nor sink to the bottom.
This is harder than it sounds, with a quarter of astronauts returning with injuries to their hands and their shoulders especially due to pressure against the rigid space suit. Because of Earth's gravity, doing the underwater tasks can actually be harder than doing them in space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think they gave up on giving us accurate calendars after the "10 year time skip" situation in chapter 215…
Tumblr media
This tube is to prevent contaminating the astronauts so they don't bring anything to the moon. It's more important for missions to extraterrestrial bodies than, say, missions to the ISS since the ISS is already contaminated by people and it's fairly self-contained.
Tumblr media
These space suits look more similar to atmospheric diving suits, especially JIM suits, than the softer-looking space suits we're used to. This might be because they lack the ideal materials, or possibly to avoid the problem of decompression sickness:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hard-shell suits can withstand more pressure, so there's no need to adjust to the lower-pressure limits of the soft suits moving to/from the rocket. The other advantage to these suits is that there's no counter-force: the astronauts don't have to exert force to hold a position.
The suits are probably inspired by the RX series by Litton Industries, in particular the RX-2 (which had aluminum joints) and the RX-3, both from the 1960s.
Other space suits can be found here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The udder-like valves at the front of the suit are for the various hose connections needed, such as breathable air and water cooling. You may notice that they're at similar positions to Stanley's revival outfit (probably a coincidence).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're probably laughing at how awkwardly everyone's standing, and that's because the suits don't have a full range of movement. To make working with their hands easier, the suits are biased towards the front.
Shoulders are really complicated joints!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember last week when I said the gloves need to be fitted well so the wearers can use their hands properly?
I'm not even sure anyone can form a fist, let alone shoot a gun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's no visual difference between the suits, so once everyone has their helmets on it might be hard to tell who's who.
Unless the black and white manga is preventing us from seeing that they're bright red, blue, and green or something.
The transition from Stanley and Xeno being an inseparable pair, chasing their other half around the world, to Stanley admitting that "it ain't just the two of us anymore" really shows character development.
Xeno following it up with "we" makes me feel something though… 🥺
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xeno gives Stanley a pack of chewing tobacco because he can't smoke in space, but chewing tobacco needs to be spat out afterwards unless Stan intends to eat the cigarette, paper and all.
I really hope we see Stanley use one because I don't know how they're meant to work.
Tumblr media
As of March 2021, in-flight accidents have killed 15 astronauts and 4 cosmonauts, making the fatality rate 3.2%. However, if you include the Apollo 1 launch pad fire that happened on the ground, this brings the total to 22/439 astronaut fatalities, which is the 5% Senku mentions.

Chapter 223 Trivia (Part 2)
(Previous part)
Gen is 10 billion percent fine.
(He's also borrowing Tsukasa's motto.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joel's been waiting to toast Kaseki since chapter 190, I'm so happy they finally met!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where did Senku's hair go? :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see where on the rocket the astronauts are, and an approximate measurement of 10m based on the petrification beam, making the rocket about 70m tall.
The Saturn V was 110m tall and 10m wide.
Tumblr media
If anyone can figure out what these little hook rings are for I'd be delighted. They might have something to do with how the helmets attach but normal space suits don't have them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy to have at least some payoff from what happened in chapter 213, even if the result is simply "we don't know what happened". The good news is, the presence of a vacuum alone probably isn't what did it since they couldn't replicate the cause.
Tumblr media
The dolls are from chapter 10, after Senku, Taiju and Yuzuriha sent the SENKUU 3 rocket to space. It's interesting how Senku's hair split similarly to the doll, with one thick strand and one thin one.

This statement is a bit confusing but I think Senku is implying that they've returned to the modern era in terms of technology, but maybe haven't revived 100% of humanity yet. As in, they've reversed the Stone World rather than petrified people.
