Like many before me, Bad Buddy hit me hard when I first watched it a little over a year ago and I haven't looked back since!

Have you ever created, contributed to, or otherwise participated in a fanzine before?

This is my first time taking part in a fanzine.

Why did you want to participate in a fanzine raising money and awareness for Palestinian liberation?

I'm all for harnessing Bad Buddy fandom fervor to bring further awareness to the ongoing genocide in Palestine and to raise money for young Palestinian writers; if I could similarly mobilize every avenue of my life for the liberation of occupied peoples I would. I love to see BBS fandom rally together for more than just a beloved story!! After all, "we can't change the world, but the world can't change us either" is what Pat and Pran have taught us, this beloved story we all carry with us is one of resistance, freedom, and love. 

Can you give us a quick description of your piece(s) in the zine?

It's a 5 +1 fic: 5 times Pat and Pran had their cover blown, and the 1 time they blew it themselves. It's six moments in their relationship that explore the exhilarating highs and claustrophobic lows of their "glass closet" post-episode 12.

What are some of your favorites of the Bad Buddy fanworks you’ve created in the past?

I've written a couple of Bad Buddy fics here and there.

“Don’t Let Them Change Us: A Bad Buddy Fanzine for Palestine” is OUT!

Don’t Let Them Change Us is a digital Bad Buddy fanzine raising money and awareness for Palestinian liberation. Check out our statement of solidarity with Palestinian liberation and actions you can take for Palestine to learn more about why we created this zine.

All zine proceeds go to We Are Not Numbers (WANN), a youth-led organization in Gaza that shares the stories behind the numbers and fights for Palestinians’ human rights, or to direct aid for their writers and their families who are suffering under Israel’s genocide.

The digital fanzine, which is now out, is a full-color PDF with 244 pages and alt text for all images, and includes:

9 fanfics and 1 suite of fan poems

10 full-page works of fanart, plus the cover art featured above

13 smaller spot illustrations, many embedded within fanfics

Our sixteen contributors have been absolutely fantastic! We’ve been spotlighting each of them in our #contributor spotlights tag, but if you missed those, here they all are:

We’ll continue taking zine orders at least through the end of May – potentially longer if there is interest. bad buddy fanzine: fic preview #2!

since i wrote two fics for the @badbuddyfanzine for palestine, here's a preview of the second fic, which is a patpran post-singapore fic called "can't wait to dream in color once again". but first, reminder that you still have time to pre-order before tuesday, april 16, and if you pre-order, you'll be part of the raffle to win a print copy of the zine!

I'm Em! I'm a fic writer and an enjoyer of queer media.

This is my first time participating in a fanzine!

Why did you want to participate in a fanzine raising money and awareness for Palestinian liberation?

I'm participating in this fanzine because I want to support We Are Not Numbers in their mission of telling the stories of Palestinian youth. It's now more important than ever to give them a voice and a chance to share their stories without any restrictions. 

Can you give us a quick description of your piece in the zine?

My fic is called (get me out of) the spotlight. Here's the summary: A year after their fake breakup, a candid picture of Pat and Pran is posted on social media, leading people to believe that Pran is dating a famous actor. Pran tries to deal with the chaos that ensues; in the end, it’s Ink who saves the day.

What are some of your favorites of the Bad Buddy fanworks you’ve created in the past?

I'm fond of my first ever Bad Buddy fic. It's an Only Friends AU where the two quarreling friend groups frequent the same bar and Pat and Pran try to keep their not-quite-friends-with-benefits relationship a secret from those around them. Here's the link!

STRETCH GOAL MET!

We’re just over a week from zine publication, and we’ve got a few more announcements: firstly, we have MET OUR STRETCH GOAL OF $1,200 USD! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you so much to all of you who have donated to We Are Not Numbers already to help get us there! This means that we will be raffling off TWO PRINT COPIES of the zine to people who pre-ordered. If you have not pre-ordered and want to be eligible for the raffle, there’s still time: as long as you submit your pre-order form by 11:59pm U.S. Pacific Time on Tuesday, April 15 (here’s a countdown clock), your name will be in the draw.

Secondly, we wanted to offer another option for donations that count towards a pre-order. Your donations to WANN, a Palestinian youth-led organization, have been going both towards its long-term mission of telling the stories of Palestinians to fight for their human rights, and also to their more immediate aid campaign to provide power kits for their writers and their families in Gaza. However, as this genocide has grown horrifyingly worse, more and more Palestinians are needing other kinds of direct aid. 

Since we have already raised over $1,200 USD for WANN as an organization, we want to encourage folks who have not yet pre-ordered to donate directly to writers and others in the WANN community who need help with food, medical treatment, surviving and rebuilding in Gaza, or escaping Gaza entirely. WANN has a page with links to individual fundraising campaigns. If you would prefer to donate to any of those individual direct aid campaigns rather than to WANN generally, we will count $10 USD (or more) donations to those campaigns as a pre-order. 

We’ve updated our How to Order Your Zine page and our Order Form to reflect those options. You’re also still welcome to donate to WANN if you are unable to donate to any of the individual campaigns. 

Finally, we wanted to let everyone know that one of our contributing writers has had to drop out of the zine because of tough life stuff going on. Her help and guidance has been invaluable in helping us put this zine together, and we’re really glad that she is taking the time and space she needs! And we still have a lot of amazing writing and art to share with you all in the zine.

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi! I'm Tasha, your average queer millennial (Eastern European flavour) and a freelance artist. One day on November 26, 2021 someone I follow reblogged a whole bunch of episode 5 gifsets and meta posts in a row and they piqued my interest. I decided to check it out and ended up absolutely loving this series. It was my introduction to the world of Thai QL shows, and although since then I've watched a lot of them and many have become my comfort shows, Bad Buddy will always have a special place in my heart.

Have you ever created, contributed to, or otherwise participated in a fanzine before?

Why did you want to participate in a fanzine raising money and awareness for Palestinian liberation?

I love that you get to contribute to a very good cause and also create something you're fond of in the process. The project receiving your donations for this zine is dedicated to uplifting individual Palestinian voices and giving them a chance to be more than just statistics listed in the news headlines, to share their own stories. I'm doing my small part in bringing attention to it and I hope you support it too!

Can you give us a quick description of your piece in the zine?

Speaking of telling stories: photos do that as well, and that's why I decided to draw Ink and her love of photography. There's a bunch of guest appearances in the illustration – see if you can recognize them all :)

Where else online can we find you and your fanworks?

I'm afraid these days I'm exclusively a Tumblr dweller! I do have a Twitter under the same username, but I'm not sure when or if I'll ever be active there again.

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi! I'm Billy (99 liner, Canadian) and I'm super excited to be part of this zine! I got into Bad Buddy the same way many of us did: I saw gifs of the rooftop kiss on Tumblr, and the rest is history. Bad Buddy opened up the QL community for me, and I've had the best time meeting new friends, obsessing over blorbos, and making art here for the past 2+ years <3 

Have you ever created, contributed to, or otherwise participated in a fanzine before?

This is my first zine! I have been YEARNING to contribute to a fanzine for ages, so I was over-the-moon excited and grateful when our wonderful mods created this opportunity.

Why did you want to participate in a fanzine raising money and awareness for Palestinian liberation?

I wanted to stand in solidarity with Palestinians as they suffer a genocide that my own government heartlessly aids and abets. I wanted to help raise funds toward preserving and sharing Palestinian stories, as well as spread awareness in fandom spaces of the need for broader change: permanent ceasefire, the abolition of the Israeli state, reparations. Working on the zine is also giving me the chance to reflect and recognize where I can step up and be a much more vocal supporter of Palestine in other areas of my life.

Can you give us a quick description of your piece in the zine?

My offering is a very cozy, very pink InkPaa illustration. Food is a big theme throughout their relationship and a huge inspiration for this drawing. It's been such a delight bringing to life the adoration these two have for each other!

I've also had the chance to work with two incredible authors, Yarrow (@dudeyuri) and seekingmoonscapes (@dimplesandfierceeyes), on spot illustrations. Working with them has been a supremely cool experience, and I hope my drawings will bring even further dimension to the touching PatPran stories they've created.
