The development of Yoshi's Island went through a "baby wizard" phase where the team briefly experimented with replacing Baby Mario as a playable character with a non-Mario baby wearing a wizard hat. Note that Baby Mario was present in development files both before and after the baby wizard, meaning that this was not the "original vision" for the game and merely an idea that the developers decided to not pursue.

The footage above shows the Game Over animation made for the baby wizard, which also features an early concept of the Toadies, Kamek's minions, as flying Snifits instead.
