When Lee said, “hit me with your best shot Gaara-kun!” in the middle of training, he expected one of two things from the kazekage: to be thrown back by sand or, to be thrown back by a punch. He got neither. Instead, there was a thud on his stomach as Gaara hit him? Gaara’s slender knuckles dug into Lee’s abdomen, causing some discomfort,  but apart from that, there was no real pain. But, what did happen was the look on Gaara’s face, one of determination and youth! 

“ That was an amazing shot Gaara-kun! The key to getting stronger is determination and youth, both of which you have tonnes of! Let us continue! ”

Ok so I caught up with “into the badlands” and I would 10/10 recommend! If anyone else has watched it and wants to, I don’t know, make a verse with me, that’d be cool! I’ll leave my thoughts on a possible verse bellow! (May contain spoilers if I reference the TV show!)

All the hidden villages are their own territories (or Baronies) which are ruled over by a Baron (Kage or other noticeable leader). Konoha would probably be in control of Agriculture, Suna would control oil, Iwa mining, Mizu Weapons, Kumo Cogs and Oto opium. All the villages have trade deals with each other but there is always tension as each Kage wants to expand. Missing Nin would be classed as Nomads who traverse the badlands, not belonging to any Baron and generally keeping themselves alive by any means necessary, occasionally being hired if need be.

There is also the Monastery, where people with “the gift” are taken to train. The gift would equate to jinchuuriki but there’s actually quite a few of them, not just nine. The Akatsuki would probably be a group of Nomads, affiliated with various villages who are trying to get jinchuuriki? If you compare this to the TV show, Naruto would be MK & Kakashi would be Sunny, the Akatsuki would be the nomads rounding up jinchuuriki for the widow / the monastery. Heck, the Akatsuki could even be the monastery which would be cool!

If everything went along with the TV show timeline, the Widow (who I can honestly see Mei Terumi being bc badass red haired ladies) plots with other Barons to take down the Opium Baron but she actually wants to destroy the whole Baron system (like Sasuke wanted to bring down all the kages / possible end game?). But with the Naruto characters I can see Oto attacking each Baron individually to try and gain power, framing each Baron for the attacks. Perhaps each ninja is a clipper / clipper in training? So Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura are Kakashi’s new colts because he see’s potential in all of them? But then Sasuke goes to Oto because he wants to defeat Itachi? Idk man I’m just guessing at this point.

In this AU I’d say Lee is a newly trained clipper (trained soldier) of Konoha. He was a Colt of a high ranking Clipper Maito Gai, right hand man of the Regent (who I’d like to say is Kakashi). Lee is generally very fun loving but, is stupidly loyal to Gai, following his orders more than the Regent / Baron. Lee would’ve come from a cog family but joined the clippers wanting to prove himself through hard work. He doesn’t particularly enjoy receiving his tally marks at the end of every mission but he understand what it signifies traditionally. In the grand scheme of the badlands, Lee doesn’t have a particular part to play apart from clipping those he’s told to clip.

"Lee---" Gaara winced subtly, pain knitting his brow as he glanced down at their entwined hands. Whatever show was on the television was seemingly causing a lot of stress for Lee, and all of it was being released in the grasp of the Kazekage's hand. Which in itself isn't a problem, but when Lee's grip was many times stronger than Gaara's own it became... painful. "Your hand..."

HE ALWAYS DID GET A LITTLE TOO EMOTIONALLY INVESTED in these cheesy dating tv shows. Although most people get sucked into the shows on accident, Lee had planned his evening around this show, wanting to sit down and watch two people fall in love (even though half of the time they’re doing it for the money!). But, what made the evening even better was being able to sit down with Gaara, hand in hand, and enjoy the moment! 

Until the contestant sent home the wrong man.

In a fit of displeasure, Lee found himself yelling at the contestant through the TV, telling them that they’ve missed a perfect opportunity for a beautiful romance! But, he was pulled back to the moment when he heard Gaara speaking; His beloved didn’t typically speak when the show was on. Lee glanced to their hands, instantly releasing Gaara’s own realising that he had been squeezing way too hard with a sudden exclamation: “ AH! I AM SORRY! ”

Lee carefully picked Gaara’s hand up again, entwining his fingers with Gaara’s so they were back into the all too familiar and comfortable position. He brought their hands up before gently kissing the back of Gaara’s hand and proclaiming, “ There! All better! ”

THE NOTIFICATION ON HIS PHONE IS WORRYING ENOUGH, Temari never texts him and, Lee isn’t actually sure when he got her number? Regardless, it would’ve been rude to ignore the message, regardless of its content. Now Lee has made many mistakes in his life but, opening the message is arguably the biggest mistake. It doesn’t help that most messaging applications have little “seen notifications”. Lee promptly deleted the photo and typed out a quick apology before anything could happen.

NEJI IS LEE'S ETERNAL RIVAL BUT there are still somethings rivals do not need to see. Sure Lee has seen Neji in very little when going to bath houses and, heck, even on missions yet, their exposure to each other had never gone quite this far. It was also quite a shock because as far as he was aware Neji didn’t take these sorts of pictures… it was too well posed to be an accident too. MAYBE NEJI HAD A SECRET LOVER?

LEE WASN’T QUITE SURE WHAT TO EXPECT when his phone vibrated late at night and this was not it. After promptly deleting the photo from both his phone and his mind, Lee tapped out a quick couple of messages before turning over and going back to sleep.

AS SOON AS HE REALISED WHO AND WHAT THE PICTURE WAS, which was pretty quick, Lee threw his phone across the room, a mantra of “YOU SAW NOTHING” echoing in his head. Looking at the phone, which was now probably broken, he decided he’d wait it out, let the phone die from a lack of battery. Maybe he’d wipe his phones memory, there was nothing important on his phone like pictures of him and his team or important conversations. 

Either way he was never going to speak to Sakura or Sasuke ever again.

SURELY HIS BRAIN WAS MISINTERPRETING THE PICTURE, there is no way in this world or the next that Gaara, Kazekage of the sand, would send a dick pic or a nude in general. But, there it is, staring him in the face as Lee owlishly blinks at the picture on his phone. When it eventually dawned on him that Gaara had sent a nude, the poor boy combusts, his cheeks turn red and his palms get a little sweaty. Lee deletes the photo as soon as he regains a bit of composure before sending a speedy message.
