The idea that the standard of beauty for women is higher than for men is ridiculous.
There is no doubt that women are judged more by their looks, and men more by their status. But if "the standard" is what you are shown as a kid, magazine, movies, etc., as many women claim...
It's a hell of a lot easier for most women to look like Barbie than for most men to look like He-Man.
Have you ever SEEN Dragonball Z? Have you ever actually LOOKED at the Thundercats? Have you READ an X-Men comic?
EVERYONE is jacked and ripped, or fit and ripped. Old men are jacked under their baggy clothes.
We won't even get into fitness magazines or bodybuilding content, because that's a layup. Those people are supposed to look aspirationally good.
Actresses will tell nightmare stories about the director who told them to lose 10 pounds. But actors (male) will be told to lose 35. Or to put on 25 pounds of muscle. Or worse- add 30+ pounds of fat.
Look at Christopher Reeves as Superman vs. Henry Cavill. Superman is a alien with superhuman strength- but he STILL has to be muscular as shit.
Look at Chris Pratt in Community vs. Chris Pratt as Starlord. Starlord isn't even supposed to be a muscular, strength-oriented character.
Tom Holland as Spider-Man is supposed to be a nerdy, relatively underdeveloped HIGH SCHOOLER. He has an 8-pack.
So please, stop with the self-pity.
