[ID: The first image is the art brief of Moash from the Stormlight Archive's premium miniatures Kickstarter. On the left, there is portrait showing Moash's headshot. There's text by the portrait that says: Vyre (formerly known as Moash) is like a dark reflection of Kaladin. He's a key villain and the most hated character in the books. / We like this portrait as the head, but see if you can preserve this look while bringing in more Asian-inspired cheek structure and eye shape. Make sure Vyre's nose is "hawk-like" (at least by Alethi standards). Compared to Kaladin, Vyre's hair is shorter and his features more severe.
On the right of the first image, there are various sketches. The first sketch shows Moash taking a step forward, Honorblade held out at his side. The text says: We like this for the pose… like he's moving forward to slaughter someone. He's fueled by anger, worried about causing harm rather than defending himself.
The other two sketches show Moash, wearing a black uniform, standing in a neutral position. The text says: The uniform is meant to be a mockery of the Bridge Four uniform. Disregard the shoulder patch, which he's not wearing in Rhythm of War. / Vyre uses Jezrien's Honorblade, the same sword Szeth uses in The Way of Kings set. / The uniform should be unbuttoned, so the example above is just reference for its construction.
The second image shows various angles of Moash's miniature--the front, back, and headshots. Moash's miniature looks like he's taking a step forward, holding his Honorblade as if he's about to attack someone.]

on a mistoborn kick
[Image description: A picture of Vin, a character from the Mistborn novels, mid-jump. She crouches in the air, looking up warily. Her mistcloack swirls around her as she hangs in the air. In her hands are two obsidian daggers. The background is dark, with mist slightly obscuring the picture.]

When you have to invite the weird couple to your fancy skyscraper party because they are too rich and too influential to ignore. Let’s hope nothing gets broken, smashed or crashed. (It probably will).
————————–
[image description: two colored, digital drawings of Wax and Steris.  The first one show them standing very stiff and proper, both their right arms are at a ninety degree angle in front of their bodies.Wax is a tall man with black hair at almost-touching-shoulder length, but combed back and long sideburns framing his equally long face. His expression is stern and discerning and he wears his dark tasseled mistcoat over a dark purple vest with a matching cravat, dark dress pants and his gun belt around his hips. On the inside of his right upper arm Steris white gloved fingers are visible. She has a soft, oval face with delicately arching eyebrows and a full mouth. Her hair is an elegant updo with half of it curled on her head and half of it falling down her back. She wears a white dress with a pigeon-breasted silhouette and a wide but still respectable neck-line, with dark details on the short puffy sleeves and the torso. In her hand she holds a dark handbag made from a soft material. Her gaze is hard to read. Somewhere between aloof, neutral and resolute. They stand in front of a backdrop of a cold, light grey. The second drawing has a warmer, light brown as the background colour and shows them smiling each other. Cautiously so – Steris with a questioning look in her eyes and Wax with a lifted eyebrow and a teasing expression.]

[ID: sketches of Kaladin and Dalinar from The Stormlight Archive. In the first, Kaladin is gesturing, saying, "Dalinar, I appreciate what you've done for me and my men, but thousands of my people are still being ruled over by an unjust government that works only to suppress and control people like me, while giving all the power to people like you."
In the second, Kaladin says, "My well being has improved, but living among the people who have tried so hard to break me and my people, has only turned me into a walking target, and I'm still being treated as less than human by my peers and the government I live under. My people have a much higher chance at becoming slaves than they ever will at becoming a citizen with the same rights as you gave to me."
In the third image, an arrow points to Dalinar, labeling him "one of the most important people in the world". Dalinar gives a thumbs up and says, "wow so true, and the only way to fix it, is if you take responsibility for your entire people, and set a good enough example to persuade my people that you all deserve human rights."
In the last image, Kaladin is shocked. He says nothing, and Dalinar turns and walks away.]

I think the problem with Era 2 is it takes these raw ass concepts (fantasy, guns, the Wild West) and executes it in the most buttoned up khakis white bread way imaginable (straight guy manpain, cops, cities that aren't even that distinct or unique)

okay i know they're my url and like i DO love the kholins shirking vorin gender roles but also. it feels worth noting that our only examples of people actively going against the roles laid down for them are nobles (and esp the family of the king). any of the 'scandals' that face the kholin family, jasnah's heresy, dalinar's heresy, renarin's prophecy, they're all viewed as scandal but like....that's it? they as a family exist in a role of enough power that no one can really shut them down.
but at the same time, where are the darkeyed men who learned to read? the women who learn tactics? sure the ardents don't really follow the rules, but they're sorta degendered in a very bizarre way. where are the gender nonconforming people who are just normal people leading their lives. i don't know if it was meant to be a demonstration of the role of class in performance of gender (idk if i really have faith that he's thought about it enough to make a real statement) but it's very telling that our only examples of women learning masculine arts and vice versa are radiants, and ones who were high-ranking nobles beforehand. anyway all this to say let kaladin learn some feminine arts i think he could get funky with gender.

Shallan Davar's entire life feels like one of those AITA posts where the title makes them sound horrible but actually they were the victim all along

I love how Kaladin can just Say things like “You sent him into the sky, assassin, but the sky and the winds are mine. I claim them, as I now claim your life,” and “Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do” off the cuff, not because he’s trying to be dramatic but just because he’s Like That. He can do a superhero landing or cause a glowing glyph to extend behind his glowing form, sometimes both, hitting the ground like a falling star and proceeding to turn the tide of a battle just by being there. Kaladin is literally the walking embodiment of the trope of “the cavalry has arrived”. Whenever he shows up people are certain in that moment that everything is gonna be alright, and the bad guys who’ve been paying attention know they’re fucked, and they’re both right every time. It is an unspoken rule that he must have at least one Dramatic Entrance per book, but sometimes he gets like, two or three depending on your definition. It is also a spoken rule that literally nothing and no one can kill Kaladin Stormblessed. People on both sides are always like “that can’t possibly be true” but then the people who Know are like “oh, but it is.” And they’re right every time. This depressed med school dropout is a force of nature! He can just like, casually drop kick a guy in shardplate so hard that it breaks. He just does shit like that. And then everyone proceeds to be in awe at all the stuff he does and says, as they should, and Kaladin proceeds to continue just being Like That. I’m love him.

what she says: i think moash should be redeemed :)
what she means: moash represents a deep running anger marginalized and oppressed people have against the system that abuses them. while he has admittedly made many mistakes and done bad things, to have him die a villain would send a bad message about what the “right” way to react to institutional violence is. in a series with core themes of growing from mistakes and becoming a better version of yourself, to condemn him outright would not only be a bad message, it would just be lazy bad writing. many other characters have done objectively worse things and been redeemed by the narrative. the amount that this fanbase is so opposed to a moash redemption arc is frankly so ridiculous and baffling. “fuck moash” is a joke that people have taken way too far, and it’s so hard to discern which of you mean it jokingly and which mean it sincerely. i hope people can understand the difference between disliking a character personally and thinking objectively that they are irredeemably evil.
