As a Flynn fan who's seen a lot of hate for the author and his work, some especially coming from 2000s era fans who have actually been bashing on others for liking Flynn's work, it's SO nice to finally see a JP fan who, even if they disagree with how Flynn potrays certain characters, are at least respectful towards others who actually enjoy them! Your artwork and ideas are amazing and are one of the many inspirations for me to try my hand at writing.

Bonus question: did you know that male hedgehogs can attract females by circling around them? Definitely not saying this because i see Sonic and amy realizing that all the times sonic ran circles around her he was basically flirting with her haha what

Thank you! I wouldn't really label myself a purist or anything. I like JP media over Western but there are elements in western media I enjoy! The best of both words, if you will. But of course! It's easy to criticize & enjoy opposing opinions while being nice, people tend to forget that. I hope I can be a safe space to you & all other fans who don't have the same views as me. i like talking about Sonic!

Honestly after all the 💩 the franchise has been through, with sonic boom, the Archie comics, and now Flynn trying to insert his greasy little fingers into the franchise. I honestly think sega should do a Nintendo. And have stricter guidelines for those involved. It’s a major reason why Mario has consistent quality, because they don’t allow someone like Flynn to proclaim a dying comic is canon to the overall franchise. And mangle their established characters.

Fans say "mandates" are too strict.

I think they're not strict enough. And the approval process is far too permissive. I still say that the "mandates" are the fandom's boogeyman. They act like it's a stifling on poor Flynn's and Stanley's "creativity" when in reality, it's the poorest writers who have them in effect considering Barnes has gone on record to claim that he received little to none of them. Which makes sense considering Scrapnik Island was so consistently good that I doubt SEGA/ST saw fit to "interfere" (I say "interfere" in quotes since SEGA and ST have every right to dictate considering its their franchise.)

Actually, I had a different idea. It could play into the emeralds being powered by positivity & pure hearts. Rather than just Elise wishing on the emeralds, everyone collectively wishes on them. And it's their pure hearts & positive emotions that empower the emeralds to bring Sonic back- Just like how the civilians and their belief in Sonic restored the emeralds' powers.

The Chaos Emeralds are enriched by the heart & have been told to fullfill wishes & desires, So a collective, good-hearted desire of bringing back Sonic would actually be so sweet.

Maybe they can all group hug him too, who knows.

If we do them by tiers...

S - Eitaro Toyoda, Shiro Maekawa, and Kiyoko Yoshimura (writer of X & Unleashed): Wrote my favorite era of the franchise! Best stories & characterizations imo.

A - Tyson Hesse: just based off his Tailstube writing sometimes, he understands the characters & i'd love to see his take on everything!

As well as Daniel Barnes, writer of Scrapnik Land (really good story), and Iasmin Omar Ata (writer of Winter Jam)

B - Ian Flynn: He's decent Imo, I loved his archie run and he's the reason I GOT to like archie, but his idw/game run is just ok. He has ideas, but the execution is hit or miss.

C - Evan Stanley: Same as Ian but to a lesser degree, but also the fact that in her writing runs, characters seem to have flaws that contradict their actual personalities (ex: Sonic straining an ankle when he's known to fall from space multiple times unharmed). Sometimes it feels like her & Ian's writing is a little limited creatively as told in this post I liked.

D - Pontac & Graff - Who would've thought? I actually don't hate them as much as I thought! I'll admit, when writing light-hearted stories they excel, but when it comes to serious situation that lightheartedness BLEEDS into the serious stuff and it all falls flat. Their jokes are 90% miss and 10% hit. I admit to having laughed at some point. But, they caused a lot of character misconceptions & plotholes that the creative team has to fix now (when really they could've just made a soft reboot.)

And finally... Ken penders. Should be obvious why.

2. Yes! It would be, and that could make for an interesting plot! I'm not against the idea of Sonic representing freedom, but he also represents being selfishly free. He would always be there to stop Surge & she'd think he's a hypocrite for it, it'd make it hard for her to see things from Sonic's perspective, and Sonic wouldn't be able to just get through to her with just fists. It could make for an interesting plot to explore Surge's background BEYOND her & Kit's past with Starline. It could be the turning wheel to help Sonic adjust his approach, too.
