“Oh darling not even in the least bit.” It was her turn to smile, a soft chuckling leaving her lips as she shook her head and leaned back in the seat she’d taken. “You two were the very last ones I wanted to tell for fear…” her voice hesitated for a moment as she drew her knees to her chest wrapping her arms around them. “Fear you would be as afraid of me as those in the heavens had become. I was the same person, the same Jieun, just physically different you know? And you two were already still so connected to that home in ways I hadn’t been in years. If you hadn’t found me practically dead I think I would have kept it quiet until you saw by fluke like I did.” That had been how many of her friends had found out her secret.
Chae came closer and she reached out to brush a bit of hair from the girls face before she gently patted her cheek. “You chose to be angry just like he chose to not forgive you.” She could completely understand the others anger, she had so much anger in herself still when it came to the changes she had gone through.
Her head gave a shake, eyes rolling to look at the same ceiling Chae had just been studying, it was beautiful, a lie as to what heaven was really like but still beautiful. “We’re angels Chae, we’re not supposed to have livelihood outside of saving souls, bringing those who can be away from the dark and not failing ourselves. We’re told to blend in with the humans in any way possible BUT do not become them and sin like them. We’re told to give grace and yet we’re shown no mercy, told to be compassionate and yet cast aside like dirty rags.”
Pinning her gaze on Chaerin she pursed her lips before asking a question she had to know. “If he were to forgive you right this very second, could you truly return back to that place knowing you’re nothing more than a number amidst millions of others waiting to fill your place?”
It was kind of amazing how strong Jieun was. Or at least how strong she seemed to be. She’d taken control of her life, made it truly her life, lived outside the home she’d known for so long that she hadn’t minded the risk of running back upstairs to grab back her wings. Now that Chaerin was in a similar position, she felt completely able to identify with Jieun in a way she hadn’t thought to try before. She could remember Jieun, lying in the ground with all the blood and broken ribs. Taeyeon worriedly working with herself to get Jieun up to her room to care for her. A comment made in the present brought the memories to a quick end, Chaerin looking over at her partner-in-crime with a somewhat judgy look. “You should have known we wouldn’t care about that. You were always our friend, no matter what.” Chaerin looked away then, her voice dropping slightly. “Then again, I’ve been worried about it too. What would you guys think of me, guardian Chae, going rouge after all that effort to repent? Jieun, you might be the same person, but I’m not sure I am. There’s a darkness inside me, and it washes away my morals like I never had them.”
It was a comforting gesture to feel the dark angel’s warm hand pull through her hair and rest on her cheek for the few seconds that it did. Comforting, but she still felt horribly confused and conflicted. It all came down to choices. She chose to be angry, God chose to be unforgiving, she chose to find love twice...
“It’s an unfair standard. Making us defend humanity without being allowed to participate in it ourselves. And the saddest thing is that most of us will never know any better because we don’t leave heaven too often. We’re all blind.” Chaerin let out a hollow laugh that might have echoed around the little chapel had it been loud enough. “No wonder demons laugh at us. No wonder Ruki tried so hard to force me to see beyond the gate.” The question that Jieun had posed left a bitter taste on the tongue even before she could answer. It was an easy answer, and one that she couldn’t say quick enough. “Of course not. I’ve served Him well, and I don’t have any regrets about that. But I’d never want to return if it meant pretending that I never experienced living. Returning would mean turning my back on you, and people I’ve loved. I never want to be the one who abandons the people I care about, even if they leave me first.”

When she heard someone walk into the library, Faye was under the desk, trying to reach something that rolled under it. Once the steps started to approach, the arachna rose, though not without accidentally bumping her head. Ouch, she sighed, rubbing the spot while she got up, straightening her back to properly greet the…student. Staff? Someone else? It did not matter really. “Donate? Oh, uh…” Well that was a procedure, most of which she could do on her own but she needed some info at first. “What genres are the books? Any specific topic they cover?”
Seeing the woman behind the desk full-on now that she had popped out from beneath the desk, she couldn’t place the face. Maybe it was new staff? Chaerin shrugged it off and ran her hand through her hair as the other hand tapped on the book that was at the top of the pile. “Well, most of them are fashion design, and three are ballet history books.” Chaerin grinned a little sheepishly. “I couldn’t keep them all, unfortunately. The dorms aren’t big enough to keep every book I ever buy.”

Zoe remained silent with a small friendly smile before taking small careful steps to narrow the distance between her and the angel and then sat down on the grassy ground approximately one yard away all while listening attentively to her reply. Zoe knew she was guilty of making things awkward for the angel so she kept her composure intact and act as normal as she could, even after observing the other’s sigh to which she couldn’t pinpoint if it was an act of relief or disappointment.
“You don’t have to apologize for it.” Zoe shook her head while making herself comfortable by crossing her legs. “I initially thought it was a litter until I decided to unfold the paper plane and saw the content.” She inhaled, suddenly becoming silent once more as the subject became sensitive; she didn’t know how to proceed or if it was okay to talk about it in the first place. She felt rushing in her system at this moment were guilt and embarrassment for reading the private letter.
“It is I, who should be apologizing to you. I’m sincerely sorry.” Zoe felt warmth run through her cheeks as she bowed with her black and slightly curled locks covering half of her face,  “Come to think of it. The wind may have blown this to come my way. I don’t know why it suddenly peaked my interest to unfold the paper plane and to find a quite thoughtful content inside…” She opened the paper once more and held the edges carefully.
“Your love is genuine and pure… and he must be your treasured memory. I— I suddenly become fond of that bond you have so I tried searching… though I wasn’t sure why….”
It was probably unnecessary to eye the girl who had happened upon her love-broken letters with such caution, but it was what Chaerin was doing anyway. Too many people out in the world seemed just fine, but then turned out to be something terrible and dangerous in the snap of a finger’s time. The dark angel relaxed when she saw the girl perch herself at a safe distance away on the ground. It seemed she’d gained unexpected conversational company.
“Well,” Chaerin grimaced, “I suppose it is litter. It was a piece of paper folded up prettily and thrown into the wind. I just needed some way to let everything out. Some way to let him know...” Chaerin caught herself mid-sentence and tucked the unfinished letter into a matching stationary envelope that she ended up taking out again. A slightly nervous tick if ever the former angel had displayed one. “Useless words, written on paper that will never reach him. It’s as good as litter.”
Chaerin herself had never been one to worry about the environment and all that eco-friendly stuff. She wasn’t under the perception that the land was something that needed protecting. After all, God would see to all life and preservation. With that sort of mindset, she’d never thought of her letter as having the capability of being misinterpreted as litter. In fact, she’d never met someone who was actually concerned about littering. The blonde heard an apology but shook her head, silently sending a message that she didn’t need an apology. What was there to apologize for, really?
The girl down below seemed sweet, though Chaerin didn’t know her well at all. Her words were soft, almost comforting and warm. They were reaching for Chaerin, but she was unsure. “Maybe it was... and maybe it would still be ‘genuine and pure’ if he had stayed. I don’t know. Most days I try and forget that I ever gave up everything for a boy who didn’t stay.” Chaerin tucked the letter back into the envelope, and looked down at the girl on the grass. “Maybe you searched because you somehow felt the pain.”

Play Along? ••• Chae&Elidyr
It was one thing to be pretty, but another thing entirely to be too pretty for everyone else’s own good. The angel thing that made her naturally charming aside, her dark eyes and tantalizing thighs were usually magnets for unwanted attention. Especially when she was wearing shorts on a warm day like today. Normally, she could ignore cat-calls and the occasional brick-headed male who would follow her for a few paces until she put an effective block on all attempts at an advance. If need be, she could even get violent.
Violence wasn’t always an option though. Too often and she would end up being no better than a hotheaded fist-over-words type person. But these guys were really starting to draw on her last nerve. They had been tailing her for several blocks, yelling out nasty things about sexual preference and sliding close enough to slink their arms around her waist until she pushed them away. They were persistent, and the former angel was loosing her patience. Anything to make them disappear that didn’t involve breaking a few teeth with her fist. Anything.
That’s why she did what she did next upon spotting a man who was standing by a shopwindow display, eyeing the wares inside. Chaerin turned briskly to the men, gave them her best pointed smile, and spoke. “Sorry boys, my boyfriend is waiting for me.” With a whip of her blonde hair, she rushed over to the male and greeted him enthusiastically, lacing her fingers through the male’s while leaning in close enough to his ear to whisper with the same smile still on her face. “Hi, I’m sorry about this but play along? Creeps at 4 o’ clock.” It occurred to Chaerin that it was ironic to use a stranger to get rid of strangers, but hey, if need be she could take them all down if it came down to that.

Dean would’ve been lying to himself if he said that the blonde he’d encountered a few days prior hadn’t ran through his mind a couple of times. The whole encounter was a bit off in his opinion. He had been sure that the ink had transferred onto her hand, but he had also seen her hand without the ink as well. Thinking about it too much made his head hurt and the siren figured it wasn’t as big of a deal as he was making it out to be. Still, Chaerin had piqued his interest.  She was gorgeous with just the right amount of mystery to keep him guessing. It was refreshing.
He was currently reclining on his bed, laptop open with a random movie playing, though he was busy looking at some new app on his phone an acquaintance from home had told him to download. So far, he wasn’t impressed. A bored sigh pushed past his lips and he tossed his phone into the mass of blankets at his feet. “So~ bored.”
His eyes were trained on the ceiling for a few moments before moving to a piece of dust floating in the air. Dean let out a huff and reached down, searching for his phone. The sudden vibration caught him off guard and he scrambled to find it, one brow raising at the unknown number.
“Hello?” he grinned at the voice on the other line. It was Chaerin. “You think I’d just forget about you like that? I’m wounded…and also a little hurt that you tricked me.”
It was an odd thing, the way anyone can more or less tell when someone on the other end of a phone call is either smiling or frowning just by the tone of their voice. In this case, almost immediately it seemed, Chaerin could almost hear a grin forming on Dean’s face. It caused her own small amused one to form as well. “What can I say? I don’t trust the words of men. Too finicky, usually.”
At the last comment, Chaerin let out a little chuckle that sounded more mischievous than anything. So, he had very well been fooled by her illusionary magic. “Oh, you know I couldn’t let you have the satisfaction of walking away so entirely wrapped up in your debonair persona. I needed some shining time, too. Besides, you probably already had a feeling I’d still catch up with you somehow.” In her room, Chaerin spread her great black wings in relaxation and leaned her head against the wall.
“Forgive me for my devious ways?” Chaerin asked, feigning regret about what she’d done. It was obvious she didn't mean it, but the question was a good ice-breaker and had some humor to it.

Immediately, Chaerin felt something a little... off about this one. Maybe it was his blatant politeness. Manners like shaking hands AND saying ‘thank you’ seemed to come by once in a blue moon at Insolitus what with so many different creatures having different customs. Regardless, Chaerin allowed a small smile to form on her face, and reached out to place her hand in his. “Sythaeryn? That’s a unique name. I’m Chaerin.”
@sythaeryn-ia
"Hello", Chaerin said pleasantly to the newcomer. "Welcome to the academy."
Receiving a greeting, Sythaeryn turned to the female, eyeing her for a moment before clearing his throat. “Thank you.” he answered, extending his hand forward. “My name is Sythaeryn.” he introduced himself, wearing his usual blank visage.

Ever since the encounter with that overly-confident new student a couple of days ago, the dark angel had gone about her life without much of a second thought to him. Maybe she had thought about his boldness for a few seconds as she went from class to class, wondering vaguely if she’d run into him before she could call him, but those thoughts were always short-lived. Her hand had been scrubbed clean of the ink he’d rudely used to write his number on, but not before taking a picture of it on her phone. Just in case.
Well, now she was bored and just plain tempted, if she were to be honest. It was eight in the evening, she had nothing to do, so she figured a good way to pass some time would be to make the call. So, hoping to catch Mr. Confident by surprise, she poked out his phone number on her cell phone before lifting it to her ear and listening to the ringtone.
“Hello? Do you like my voice enough to recognize it, like you said?”

It felt more like a miracle that he had not lost his entire head yet considering the amount of times he ran back and forth between the lake and several of the academy’s buildings today. A stifled noise could be heard in response to the sudden touch on his shoulder and Hoseok’s body involuntarily bent away from it, twisting into a comical angle before he looked back at the unknown woman. Brown hues were quick to zero in on the wallet in her hand, causing the diwata to clear his throat and turn around. “Yeah that … tends to be a bad habit, I guess. But hey you didn’t try to steal it, that gives me hope for this place.” Cracking a joke usually seemed like the best way to go when diffusing an awkward situation or so he found, smiling at her. “Thanks.” @hoseok-ia
Sometimes it was easy to forget that some people in the world were easily freaked out. For whatever reason, this was one of those people. Or so it seemed by the way the boy twisted away from her in alarm. Chaerin didn’t do anything, just stood her ground with her arm extended holding the wallet toward the boy. “Try not to let it be too bad of a habit. Not everyone is as honest as me.” As much as she didn’t want to feed this poor boy’s fear, this place was full of terrible people. Regardless, she offered him a friendly smile now and waved the wallet at him. “No problem, but you should really take back your wallet now. I hope you haven’t had any trouble yet, you seem new.”

“I don’t scare too easily,” he replied, his grin widening the tiniest bit. He reached in to his coat pocket and pulled out a pen, removing the cap in a smooth motion. “I’m pretty sure if I asked you for your number, you’d tell me no.” Dean gently reached for the woman’s hand and began write his own number atop of her skin, “That’s why, I’m going to give you mine.” He finished the action with a chaste kiss on the same hand before placing his own into the pockets of his pants. “I will ask that you give me a call sometime though.”
“But you do get scared.” It was a matter of fact response, one where Chaerin took note that he didn’t say he didn’t scare at all. She maintained a calm and cool demeanor when the guy’s hand brought up her own to scrawl a number on her palm. It was very movie-esque. The kind that had a douchebag main character who eventually got his love interest. Just as he put his hand back in his pocket, Chaerin got an idea. She gave him a stunning smile, and lifted the hand he had just written and kissed on. Thanks to her illusion magic, the palm appeared completely normal - no writing and no phone number. “Next time, be sure your writing surface is compatible with the ink. See you around, Dean.” With a wink and a wave, the dark angel tossed her blonde hair over one shoulder and turned to walk away, thinking to herself that maybe she would give him a call. Maybe.

He grinned. She was feisty and he definitely liked feisty. “I’d put your voice on loop if I could. It’s quite lovely,” he replied, moving to walk beside her, ”Besides, I don’t have enough eyes to ‘eye’ everything I like. The more I look at you, the more I find that I like.” Dean bit his lip. He was going to have to pull out the big guns with her. The siren let his power ebb out a bit, as she stopped on her heels and he gave her a charming smile as she spoke. “The pleasure is all mine, Chaerin.”
Maybe someone else would be flattered enough to give him a little more credit, but Chaerin wasn’t one of those people. Her smirk only grew a tiny bit. He had a bizarrely unique way of complimenting, and if the dark angel was honest with herself, she hadn’t heard the voice one before. “Maybe its for the best that you can’t see everything. See too much and I might end up scaring you away, instead.” Staring up at him, she was drawn suddenly. Something about him was intriguing her, though she knew she should just turn on her heels and continue off on her way. Instead she tilted her head slightly, and shifted her weight onto one leg. “Shouldn’t you be asking for my number or something, by now?”

To hear his name, even as barely more than a gasped breath, had a sensation of relief washing over him that Jonghyun did not expect. While quick to blame it on the fact that he wouldn’t have to try and bring her back from the half-drowned, it did nothing to lessen his annoyance for Chaerin’s reckless behavior however. He only let go once his feet touched solid ground again, allowing both of them to get back to the shore where the demon finally turned around; one brow sharply raised. “You wanna tell me what that was?” His question cut through the night, disturbing what used to be a peaceful scenery just minutes ago. “For your own sake I hope you didn’t just try to drown yourself.”
Harsh words masked the concern he very much felt for an old friend, no matter how ruthless or cold he might be these days. To discover the person he had been before and still was underneath all those layers was a part of his recovery, too. And with the way Chaerin stood before him, dripping wet and probably cold, he felt a sigh push past his lips long before he even had the chance to build up proper anger towards her. Lowering his arms from where they’d been crossed in front of his chest, Jonghyun took a step back towards the water and held out one hand to pull her out of the lake completely.
“Not really the hero-type, I know,” he now commented in a calmer yet wry tone. “But if you try to disappear beneath the surface of a lake forever, you might not want to choose the one with a giant kraken at the bottom. From what I hear, angel wings are terrible for your stomach.” It was a slightly cynical joke aimed at lifting the gloomy mood as much as possible, but also to make it feel less like an accusation on his part. People hardly ever opened up if they were crudely pushed into a confession, Jonghyun found.
And so his voice had gone a bit softer by the time he looked into her eyes again, searching for anything that might tell him whether she was being honest with him or not. “So, what were you really doing down there?”
It was easier now to see through the water droplets and bits of hair, now that she could scrape the bottom of the lake’s edge with her feet and awkwardly stand. It also made it easier now without the grip of essential survival-mode clamping down on her. She pushed her hair out of her face, and wiped her eyes free of moisture - with wet hands - so that she could properly see the rather unhappy face of the person she’d thought it was. It was Jonghyun. For a few seconds, the ones that passed between them before Jonghyun spoke, Chaerin couldn’t understand the look of displeasure he was throwing her way.
When his mouth opened, the words came out harsh-sounding with a cold kind of concern that surprised Chaerin. It seemed to come from absolutely nowhere. What was he talking about? Before she could answer the first question, however, another comment was hurled into the open space between them, assaulting Chaerin’s ears like an accusation. “Drown myself?” she repeated, still a little breathless from the extended period of oxygen-denial. “Of course not. You think I would go through so much trouble to keep my wings, and defend myself from avenging angels on my trail, just to drown myself in a lake?”
Chaerin shook her head once, letting dripping bunches of wet hair fall over her shoulder again as a shiver of cold whipped through her body. “I’m sorry, but who do you think I am? I’m not a quitter, you know.” Heaving a soft sigh, the dark angel’s arms came up to wrap around herself for the preservation of her bodily warmth as a breeze rushed past them. “Even if my soul is torn in two contradicting sides, I’m not a quitter.” Chaerin huffed as she reached out and clasped hands with Jonghyun, allowing him to help lead her out of the cold night water. As soon as she was standing on ground, she considered hopping back in the water. It was warmer.
It seemed that Jonghyun had picked up on his own accusing tone and demeanor, and was calming himself down. Easier, she assumed, now that he knew she hadn’t been trying to end her life via watery death or food for the giant squid. Chaerin wrinkled her nose at the mention of a kraken, and gave him a playfully suspicious look. “Do you believe that thing exists down there? Isn’t a lake too small for a kraken?” She ended with a laugh, simple and relaxed now. “Angel wings are terrible for anyone, really. Don’t eat them, don't get near them.”
The dark angel had nothing to hide, nothing to admit to that would confirm whatever conspiracy death theory that Jonghyun had been cooking up in his mind. So, she met his gaze evenly. No jokes, no touch of humor threatening the sincerity of her response. “I was swimming. I got bored at some point and decided to float for a while, and then I just decided to... immerse myself.” Chaerin shrugged simply at the last part. It was true, but sounded lame. “I would have come up as soon as I couldn’t breathe anymore.”

The comment made the former angel crack a smirk and raise an eyebrow as she looked back at him, not pausing as she continued her stride so that he would have to keep up with her. “Would you really listen? Or just pretend to listen, so that you can eye what it is you like?” The introduction was an informal one, and it was a change for Chaerin who always tried her best to be polite and formal with new people at the school. “Dean? That’s a nice name. If I saw you again, I wouldn’t need to call you by anything else.” Sensing that this was a stubborn one, Chaerin came to a halt, turning to give the male her full attention and force of gaze. “I’m Chaerin, it’s nice to meet you.”

Chaerin was in a hurry, so as she passed by an unfamiliar face in the hallway on her way outside, she smiled and offered up a quick and polite "Hello, welcome to the academy, even though I'm sure you've already heard that a thousand times." With a flip of her blonde hair, and clack of her heels, the dark angel began a model-like stride on her way again.
Dean let out a low whistle as his head turned to follow the female. “I’d gladly listen a thousand more times if it’s you talking, Beautiful.” He noticed that she seemed to be in a hurry, but it didn’t deter him as he jogged to catch up to her stride. “I’m Dean, but you can call me whatever you like as long as you tell me your name.”
