Q'S ABOUT BYLETH / @mischiefmodig / no longer accepting ! ↳ ♥ - What does ‘love’ mean to them?

||. Byleth... is still trying to figure that out. At the moment, love is a shape without lines to Byleth; a song with no rhyme, a language without words It's not that it's meaningless... it's that the meaning isn't clear to Byleth. And how could it be? She hasn't had real, full, thriving emotions for most of her life; a lot of her time is spent playing emotional catch-up with everyone else in the room, no matter how young they are.

So, if you were to ask Byleth what "love" means, she would decline to answer, or pivot the question to someone else. She's still learning... and she wouldn't want to assign a meaning to a word she can barely describe. Especially if, after all of that... it turns out that she was wrong, and love actually means something else.

All that she does know is this : love comes in many forms. It can be shared between people who are courting, but it can also be shared between other kinds of family members too, like fathers and sons, brothers and sisters. It can be shared between friends, whether they're close, or they view each other as family. It can used for objects, animals and things that hold significance to a person. You can "love" a place, for instance. Just like you can "love" a job. (Granted, Byleth doesn't quite understand what makes the difference between 'loving' something and 'very much liking' something.)

But she's determined to understand, one day.

↳ ★ - Do they prefer daytime or nighttime and why?

||. Byleth is a night owl, through and through. (A majority of her supports take place wandering Garreg Mach at ... odd ... hours of the night.) But this can come into conflict with Byleth also being something of a habitual early riser. She very rarely gets a full night of sleep, often opting for anywhere between three and five hours on average. She enjoys the peace and quiet of the night. It allows her the room and the time to think, process through her life's events and newfound experiences. It also allows her to plan for the immediate future.

↳ ♔ - Do they value loyalty?

||. Byleth values loyalty and accountability above ALL else. Being able to trust that you will not get back-stabbed on a job is imperative to her former work as a mercenary - at least in terms of the mercenary members, and the group as a whole not getting betrayed by their employers. Of course, professionally, Byleth does understand that loyalty can only go so far when you can be hired by one person one day, and then hired by their enemy on the next day. That is where the utmost honor of having an accountable track record comes in. If you're honest, then you can be trusted within reason, even if your paths clashed not so long ago.

But when it comes to Byleth's personal loyalty, once it is earned, is difficult to break. If Byleth chooses you, she will move mountains for you. She will tie her path with yours, and very little will sway her on that path if she decides that following her chosen person (or their ideal) is her prerogative. This was true of Jeralt, and this is true of her house leaders. Which is why their responses to her during "A Form of Grief / Father's Diary (Blue Lions)" are so indicative of the person she becomes by the end of the route.

In Azure Moon, Dimitri tells Byleth to "live for what she believes in", or in other words : be true to your heart, because what your heart tells you is important will remain no matter what changes, or who leaves your life. She follows this creed with enough devotion not only to boomerang it back to Dimitri in his time of need, but then assist his will to extend a hand of mercy to their enemy at the end of the route.

In Verdant Wind, Claude... doesn't speak much on her loss with Jeralt, but he does encourage Byleth to seek the truth. In part through letting him look through her father's diary in search of answers about her past. She follows this into getting her answers from Seteth and Lady Rhea, enough so that she's able to put a permanent close on Nemesis' chapter once and for all at the end of that route.

In Crimson Flower/Silver Snow, Edelgard tells her - quite firmly - that she believes there is no sense in grieving. The world will move on with or without Byleth, and "all anyone else can offer are the tears of an outsider looking in." (She also makes it a point to note she will continue to move forward with her own life regardless of whether Byleth shares in that.) Obviously, Byleth can take this one of two ways: choosing to cleave her definition of belonging towards, or away from Edelgard's intended walk of life.

Her loyalty towards a person and their ideals is indomitable. And can quite literally be the difference between success and failure, winning and losing, and even life and death.

||. Byleth likes the rain! I don't think there's any sort of weather that Byleth personally dislikes. And if she does "dislike" it, it comes from a practical or survivalist standpoint more than a personal one. (e.g., "disliking" snow because it can cause the ill-prepared traveler bouts of hypothermia or frostbite; food and shelter can be difficult to come by, etc. Or "disliking" rain when traveling by boat, or in battle due to low visibility, or when shelter is a long ways off, for similar reasons as to disliking snow.)

If she is caught in the rain, Byleth will usually seek out shelter. While she is not capable of falling ill easily (bearing the Crest of Flames and her draconic lineage means some measure of immunity to most things.) she is not wholly immune. More than that : she's aware that her companions are fallible to disease. So she's vigilant against it.

She can, when she's on her own, be found enjoying the rain! She might favor an umbrella, but taking a moment to smell the rain and feel the wind never hurt anybody.

Q'S ABOUT BYLETH / @silentaura / no longer accepting ! ↳ ☺ - Do they prefer sour or sweet treats?

||. Between sweet and sour foods, Byleth will always choose the sweeter option! It's something of a running theory in Crestology that Crest Bearers need to eat more sweets (it's an energy thing). So, I'd imagine that Byleth has a sweet tooth just like so many other crest bearers. That doesn't inherently mean that Byleth dislikes bitter, earthy, or spicy foods! I'd actually imagine that, in her travels with Jeralt and the mercenaries, Byleth developed something of a wide palette.

↳ ❄ - Favorite season and why?

||. If Byleth had to pick a season she most preferred, it'd probably be between spring and fall. She's a flower lover, and spring is the perfect time to grow new seeds, watch flowers bloom, trees grow new leaves, you name it. Depending on the region in Fodlán, springtime could either be humid (south; Adrestria) or mild (north; Faerghus). But when it comes to the optimal weather to train, bond with friends and allies, or take a scenic walk around... then there's no better time to do all of those things than the autumn months.

↳ ☮ - Do they have an idol or someone they look up to?

||. There's not a lot of people that Byleth idolizes. But if there is one person that Byleth comes close to idolizing, it's her father, Jeralt. In her eyes, he was her guardian, a skilled fighter, an incredible strategist and a firm leader. And, for the longest time, Jeralt was all that Byleth ever knew. He didn't teach her a lot about the world she lived in, and it's pretty clear from Byleth's spotty memory that she, in some ways, slept-walked through life. The ONLY person that made an impact on her enough for Byleth to remember and base her decisions on (even semi-emotional ones), was Jeralt.

The only other person that Byleth idolizes, at least in Azure Moon and Silver Snow route might be Sothis... out of a hind-sighted reverence and close bond. And even then, not nearly as devoutly as Rhea or Seteth would. She's more in line with Manuela and/or Claude in that respect. Byleth and Sothis share a profound bond... and Sothis was something of a mentor to her just as much as she was her companion. So, it's hard for Byleth not to wish she was here, and hope that in Sothis' absence, she is making her proud as her inheritor. ...And her scion.

⚔️ // maybe he would. but it was difficult to let down her guard when festivities like these were RIFE with corruption in their underbelly. even in fodlán it almost always seemed as though DANGER lurked in every corner. first the goddess' rite of rebirth was ravaged by THOSE WHO LURKED IN THE SHADOWS — hellbent after the remains of the saints. even the millennium festival had been tainted by the ash and soot of WAR ....

then again , byleth thought , looking up at marcellus and the warm smile that he so offered her , maybe i'm just overreacting.

"you have my apologies , then , marcellus." she said , splaying hand outstretched in gesture, "you're right. we should enjoy this chance to wind down a moment. — though ... i suppose that , since you're looking for a suggestion : finding some may flower honey has been on my agenda lately. it'd be a good condiment to have in the pantry."

"It's a nice change of pace with everything else that went on." Seeing the people here enjoying themselves is enough. "You don't have to be so on guard. I would like to think Romanus would also want you to have a good time too." smiling, Marcellus looks at her.

⚔️ // her eyes flitted upright , meeting those of her companion eagerly. then lady seiros spoke , and the color seemed to bloom right across her cheeks. alight with the pleasure of having been chosen , byleth sucked in a breath and held it between heart and ribs. it was faint - hardly more than a blink-and-you'll-miss-it flicker , but the corners of byleth's lips turned upright into a smile most pleased.

"then . . . it seems that there is a similar feeling shared between the two of us," she said. "even if it's a little silly to say : i find myself gladdened by that."

hands clasped together , palm to palm with fingers squeezing slight as though the pressure alone would release the flutter of effervescent joy in her chest. "with ... everything that's happened , i think something light shared between good allies would be a nice change of pace. and , to be honest with you — it's been a while since i last hosted a tea party."

◦ 「 ☆ 」 —— a tea with her in mind ?? " oh , really ?? color me intrigued . "

intended or not , the manner by which byleth pads her request to pass time comes across as if there is something else sitting in the forefront of her mind . almost as if seiros had intimidated the girl . and for what reason ?? seiros intended to do no such thing .

this is why you need to smile more . be more pleasant for company . be more . . . obvious -- she could hear wilhelm barking wine tinted suggestions at her from his seat in the back of her mind , playful with her shortcomings . meanwhile she silently strokes the backing of her tapestry , folded neatly in her arms .

it eases her to do so .

" . . . i hope i have not given you the impression that i would be quick to reject your company , byleth eisner . quite the contrary . i feel as if there are many more conversations in our future . to have them with an accompaniment would be refreshing . "
