Ferrari California: high performance, elegant and fun GT Ferrari
The Ferrari California is an innovative car in which Maranello put a great attention to the versatility, quality, comfort and equipment to its first Ferrari ever produced with a front-mid mounted direct injected V8 engine. The California is a lifestyle Ferrari, of high quality and craftsmanship where architecture and new product content have a positive effect in the driving thrill and versatility in its use. In relation to current Ferrari range of cars, the California is more usable, more versatile and simpler to drive – it is a true sports salon GT with retractable hard top and 8-cylinder front-mid engine. In designing the Ferrari California, Pininfarina stylists opted for an aesthetic concept to obtain a classic style, with a sculptural setup made of sensual and expressive surfaces. The car body panel is characterized by strong, dynamic and inclined lines, rising from the height door handle to outline the profile of the typical powerful and robust Ferrari rear fender. The front incorporates the features of the side and tail modeling, where two iconic elements appear: the grille, with vertical and horizontal louvers, and the thin air intake at the center of the hood reminiscent of classic intake of the “California” and 250 SB. The concave surfaces of the body panel reach the edges of the rear volume, a treatment that helps balancing the volume of the fenders and the boot to naturally become the housing for the LED light clusters. Another relevant stylistic element is the position of the vertically coupled exhaust pipes and the cut of the boot. The California is the first Ferrari model to adopt a three-part modular chassis, front, central and rear, which is made entirely in aluminum in order to reduce weight and maximize efficiency, with subsequent increase of the torsional rigidity and therefore performance and safety. The car aerodynamic was developed in close collaboration with the styling department, with the main goal to reduce drag while maintaining down-force. Development was carried out with wind tunnel testing on 1:3 scale models as well as with the latest Computer Fluid Dynamics software with the objective to guide styling solution and optimize wind noise. The air-intake on the hood is an example of integration between style and functionality: its size and position ensures an effective cooling of the components in the engine compartment.

Ferrari FF: Ferrari patented 4RM, Vehicle Dynamics and Bodywork
The FF is a 4-seater coupe’ with a front-mid mounted 12 cylinders engine that marks a clean break with analogous models of the past in terms of performance and style. The FF is the first car in history of the Prancing Horse to be equipped with an innovative, Ferrari patented 4 wheel drive system which uses a rear transaxle for optimum weight distribution (47% weight on the front axle, 53% on the rear). The engine is located behind the front axle, while the gearbox/differential assembly is positioned behind the rear axle, resulting in a weight distribution typical of sports cars. The operating logic of the 4RM Control system is based on the concept of grip calculation to cover all possible conditions, from ice to a dry track. Grip calculation was first used in motorsports and was later developed for vehicles such as the 599 GTB and California and it is now the basis of the operating logic of the F1-Trac system. The 4RM control ensures maximum traction in all road conditions, as it independently distributes the maximum torque deliverable to each individual wheel. The new suspension geometry strikes an improved balance between comfort (noise and vibration) and perceived sportiness (reduced roll). The Ferrari FF has a height of 54.3 in and a width (excluding mirrors) of 76.9 in. Width including mirrors is 81.3 in, length is 193.2 in, wheelbase is 117.7 in and dry weight is 3946 lbs. The FF has a luggage compartment capacity of 450 liters and a fuel tank capacity of 91 liters. Design and Aerodynamics The shape of the tail has been optimized to keep the air flow constantly in contact with the rear screen, reducing the size of the wake and enhancing the efficacy of the rear spoiler. The rear diffuser, which optimizes air flow extraction from the undertray, has three channels and introduces two original new solutions. One is the wing element that increases both extraction capacity and rear down-force while permitting a less extreme curvature of the central tunnel. The other is the all-new concave curvature of the lateral channels, which creates a uniform low pressure zone across the entire width of the undertray. The tail area has been substantially optimized to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase down-force. A base-bleed effect has been achieved by insuring a communication between the interior of the rear wheelhouse and the area adjacent to the taillight. The two air vents in the bumper separate the air flow along the flank of the car at exactly the point where both the wake and the low pressure zone are smallest, improving efficiency.

Ferrari 458 Italia: Extraordinary performance and innovative technology
The Ferrari 458 Italia is a car boasting extraordinary performance, innovative technology and styling which emphase its sports spirit. Comfort and performance come together in a true Ferrari that revolutionizes the state of the art in sport automobiles. The spirit of the concept is founded on the themes of purity, essentiality, technology, aerodynamics, efficiency and lightness. The aeronautical image suggested by these values led to the choice of a slightly cab-forward layout, like the cockpit of a fighter jet. In addition to the aerodynamic single mouth element, the front also features two large lateral air intakes for cooling the engine’s radiators. The side view is defined by simple, classic and clean lines, with 2 lateral pontoon elements serving as the wheel fenders. The forward sloping lines defining the front of the car are contrasted by line descending toward the rear beginning at the mid-point of the flank. This treatment gives rise to sleeker surfaces in the upper portion of the body and the characteristic concavity of the rear fenders. The rear of the car features two large air outlets for cooling and distinctive aerodynamics ‘nolder’ lip at the top and a diffuser with three tail pipes at the bottom. The space frame chassis of the 458 Italia is made from aluminum casting and extrusions with end plates. The use of aluminum technology derived from the aeronautical industry reduces weight and maximizes the efficiency of the car in terms of performance. Compare with the F430, the torsional rigidity of the chassis has been increased by 15% while bending stiffness has been improved by 5%. Aluminum space frame technology also applied to the all-new body shell and the moving parts of the car. Technical and technologically innovative elements include: the cast door sub frame, made using a high pressure molding process, anti-intrusion beams in aeronautically derived aluminum-lithium, thinner outer skin elements made from stronger new materials for less weight. The style of the car was developed hand in hand with the aerodynamics. The external architecture has a reduced frontal cross section for greater aerodynamic efficiency. The single mouth element at the front channels air towards the coolant radiators and the new flat under tray. It also includes two lateral winglets which generates down-force.

Giacomo Mattioli announcing Maserati Kubang
Maserati makes modern vehicles that express the best elements of the grand touring tradition, offering an Italian alternative within key segments.  With its current well defined line-up of six models, Maserati is carefully positioned and is capable to reflect and please the desires of its clients. Maserati closed 2011 in a very positive way: compared to the previous year, worldwide sales were up 10% in 2011.  United States remains Maserati’s largest market with 2465 cars delivered to final clients in the past twelve months: an increase of 21% over 2010. North America is followed by China (which doubled its sales volume compared to last year), Italy, the UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and Honk Kong. In Detroit Maserati was proud to release the Kubang sport luxury SUV concept in occasion of the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Approximately 50 years ago, Maserati expanded the boundaries of the original GT concept from two to four doors. The resulting Quattroporte is unquestionably the first modern super sedan. It was able to keep not only the brand’s core values of style and luxury, but it was also able to deliver a genuine performance thanks to components and design built from knowledge gained in competition. The Kubang represents a natural evolution and adjustment to the market needs: clients are seeking for vehicles that combine sportiness and luxury, with the capability of getting its passengers through all types of climates over a variety of surfaces on and off the road. The Kubang is a sport luxury vehicle destined to be first Maserati built in North America. According to Giacomo Mattioli, President of Ferrari Maserati Beverly Hills and Ferrari Maserati Silicon Valley, the Kubang concept proves the strength of the Maserati brand, now capable to compete in one of the most challenging segment of the automotive industry and enlarging its product range across the world. Even though entering a completely new segment, the Kubang still maintains the integrity of Maserati’s DNA. Even though the Kubang concept was officially introduced at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, the idea of a sport luxury SUV was not new to Maserati: as a matter of fact the Trident unveiled the first Kubang concept in 2003. The synergy Fiat-Chrysler offered Maserati the ideal catalyst to start designing and producing a sport luxury SUV. Giacomo Mattioli conveys that even though production will be in the United States, the Kubang will be unquestionably be a Maserati: all the components will be 100% representative of the brand’s core values of craftsmanship, performance, sportiness, elegance, luxury and glamour. The Kubang has been designed by the Maserati Style Center headed by Lorenzo Ramaciotti and its new generation high-tech proprietary engine has been developed by Paolo Martinelli (Head of Maserati Powertrain Development) in the Maserati headquarters in Modena. As a matter of fact, the entire production of the Maserati new engines with the new 8-speed automatic transmission will remain in Maranello and performed by Ferrari. Suspension, brakes, steering and electronics will be exclusively developed by Maserati engineers in Modena, Italy. According to Mr. Mattioli, the first Kubang will arrive in the US market in 2013.

Ferrari FF: a car for all seasons
Ferrari is proud of the two models launched in 2011: the Ferrari FF and 458 Spider which respond to the expectations of two specific and different types of Ferrari customers. For an exclusive manufacturer like Ferrari, huge effort is required to create two models based on innovative and sophisticated technologies. The Ferrari FF is so much more than a four wheel drive car. From the system that works on each wheel like full traction control, its 660 HP V12 engine and spectacular comfort, all of which make the FF an authentic piece of technological art. The groundbreaking technology and uniqueness of the FF’s four-wheel drive system guarantee exceptional performance even under heavy snow conditions. Those who thought the words “four by four” would never be spoken at Maranello are wrong, when one considers that all-wheel drive has never really been considered functional to the performance of a Ferrari. Indeed, various innovations over the years and progresses made in modern tire technologies could have made the four-wheel drive pointless, due to the additional weight of mechanical components such as an extra drive shaft and differentials. But if the arrival of the FF has surprised many, the same cannot be said inside the Maranello technical Department. The engineers, who bring the same passion and innovation to every new Ferrari they work on, had never fully abandoned the four-wheel drive concept. Just as they never abandon every opportunity that can make Ferraris incomparable in their performance. In line with Ferrari tradition, the FF structure has one basic advantage, which is a front, mid-mounted engine and a rear transaxle helping optimize weight distribution: 53 on the rear axle, which is a great result for a front-engine car. The challenge was to add the minimum weight even when introducing four-wheel drive. The solution, original yet simple in its concept, is to avoid a double shaft, transfer box and differentials. The FF is a model designed for the entire world: drivable on daily basis, in any situation. Whatever at the golf course or packing for a weekend away, the FF with its adjustable luggage compartment has room enough for every occasion. Skis, golf bags and ample space to fix children’s chairs: as well as four comfortable seats are just some of the possibilities of this surprising Ferrari model.
As every Ferrari, the new Ferrari FF has a truly unique design approach and technology innovations to achieve indisputable performance and driving experience under all weather conditions. Ferrari 458 Spider: the new Prancing Horse V8 beyond any expectations
The acclaimed 458 Spider is the 29th Ferrari in the Company history to wear the celebrated Spider badge, one that means a slightly more hedonistic spirit and it promises to saturate the senses even more thoroughly than the already irresistibly dynamic coupe’. Ferrari’s progress with automated transmissions has been exponential since the system first appeared in nascent form on a Mondial in the early ‘90s, more fully on 1997’s F355. One struggles to see how the system could be any sharper or more interactive than it is on the current 458 Italia, or more authentically racy than on the fabulous 430 Scuderia, but another quantum leap forward is in prospect. The 458 Spider is the latest Ferrari unveiled as at today, a naturally exciting vehicle and the world’s first mid-engine car to feature a retractable hard-top roof, a remarkable innovation if you think about the packaging challenges involved. The 458 Spider nevertheless still hits 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and has a maximum speed of 320 km/h, all while using less fuel (11.8 l/100km) and emitting impressively little CO2 (275g / km). Ferrari now has an emission level almost 60 per cent lower than the one dictated by European regulations for the sector and it has achieved an exemplary level of energy independence. Furthermore, maximum efficiency is conquered in its engines’ combustion, reducing CO2 emissions by 30 per cent and undertaking projects that focus on the future, such as the 599  hybrid and KERS. The 458 Spider is a very reactive car, with fantastic handling: it is a little bit softer but it kept all the characteristics of a Ferrari including the engine noise, handling, performance and driving experience. Powered by a Ferrari’s 570 HP 4,499 cc V8 engine, the 458 Spider features a dual clutch F1 paddles-shift transmission which leads its class, whether its engine was named International Engine of the Year when launched in 2011. The car’s innovative new hard-top is 25 kg lighter than a traditional soft-top, but is also quitter and more efficient when rose: it takes only 14 seconds to open or close and occupies a small space when stored allowing the 458 Spider designers to include a rear bench for luggage behind the car’s seats.
As every Ferrari, the new 458 Spider and its coupe version the 458 Italia have a truly unique design approach and technology innovations to achieve indisputable performance and driving experience under all weather conditions. Giacomo Mattioli, President of Ferrari Maserati Beverly Hills and Ferrari Maserati Silicon Valley, is glad to announce that Maserati introduced a couple of important additions for the 2012 to the renowned Master Maserati Driving Courses: the Master Italian Lifestyle Experience and the Maserati St. Moritz Snow Drive. The Master Maserati is a unique opportunity that offers clients and potential customers to experience the thrill of being behind the wheel of Maserati models with the support of a highly professional staff and the latest equipment. Mr. Mattioli is convinced that the Master Maserati Driving Courses are a terrific way to experience the race track in a controlled and supervised environment. Most of the courses take place at the Varano de’ Melegari Circuit located near Parma in Italy, located few miles from the Maserati Factory in Modena. The 2012 Master Maserati courses include the Master GT Driving Course, the Master High Performance and the Master MC Trofeo. The Master GT Driving Course is an intense one or two-day program that allows participants to learn how to drive safely in a 400 BHP vehicle. The aim of this course is to maintain control of the car even in the most critical situations: to learn that, students are subject to a training that involves drills using different procedures (lining up for a corner with an on-board instructor, acquiring and analyzing telemetry data, driving with a pace car) and exercises where the driver has to control the car on a variety of simulated surfaces (rapid changes of direction, controlled skids, braking techniques). In this course students get to drive the Maserati GranTurismo, GranTurismo S, Quattroporte S and Quattroporte Sport GT S. The Master High performance focusesinstead on a more professional and technically advanced driving experience. This is exclusively reserved for Maserati customers; the entire course can be personalized to the participant’s specific needs and expectations. Lastly, the Master MC Trofeo is dedicated for the Maserati driver who is ready to go beyond Club level competition. According to Mr. Mattioli, this course provides a thrilling, unforgettable experience; it completely involves students into the Maserati competitive driving world. In addition to the above listed courses, new for 2012, Maserati introduces the Master Italian Lifestyle Experience, which includes special cultural activities and events to enjoy the finest Italy has to offer, and the Maserati St. Moritz Snow Drive. The St. Moritz Snow Drive offers a unique opportunity to experience Maserati in a show & ice environment, under the control and supervision of a professional driver. This experience is exclusively reserved for Maserati owners and it is considered an extension of the “Maserati High Performance Driving Course”. It takes place in a very exclusive ski resort in St. Moritz, Switzerland and it is available for one week only, in February. The St. Moritz Snow Drive allows participants to experience the entire Maserati fleet (Quattroporte, GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible) in a controlled environment, improving their skills in handling unexpected situations when grip is compromised by the weather.

Ferrari unveiled the new 458 Spider at the Art Basel Show in Miami, one of the most important contemporary art show in the Americas. Ferrari clients, collectors and their guests joined Ferrari and Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo for an exclusive event celebrating the US arrival of the latest V8 Ferrari model. The event was held at the modern building designed by Swiss architect de Meuron & Herzog whether an impressive 3D video by artist Marco Brambilla was premiered during the evening. The cocktail reception concluded with music performed by American singer Janelle Monàe. As the first V8 mid-rear engine car with retractable hard top, the new 458 Spider has already received over 35 awards since its official unveiling at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, including the title “Best Imported Cabrio 2011” by leading German magazine Auto Zeitung. Powered by Ferrari’s 562 hp 4499 cc V8, named International Engine of the Year 2011, the 458 Spider features Ferrari’s class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission, has a max speed of 199 mph and sprints 0-62 mph in less than 3.4 seconds. The 458 Spider’s new chassis technical innovations guarantee identical levels of structural rigidity with the roof up or down. The car is consequently truly exciting to drive and blend extreme performance with the amazing responsiveness. Class-leading fuel consumption and emissions levels are contained thanks to the optional HELE system (High Emotion Low Emission). Ferrari 458 Spider is the convertible version of its predecessor model: the acclaimed 458 Italia which represented a genuine evolution of Maranello’s mid-rear engine V8 sports cars since its debut in 2010. The 4,499 cc V8 engine punches 570 hp, with a weight-power ratio of 2.42 kg, has a maximum speed of 202 mph and can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.4 seconds. Giacomo Mattioli at the Ferrari Challenge Finals
After two years in Spain, for the World Finals that would close out the 2011 season, Ferrari decided to return to Italy to the AutodromoInternazionaledelMugello in the Tuscany region. The AutodromoInternazionaledelMugello was purchased by Ferrari many years ago; in 1974 the track was transformed into a world-class facility that welcomes series like MotoGP and DTM. It is located in an area calledScarperia, between Florence and Bologna. Mugello is as well conveniently located close to the Ferrari factory in Maranello. The Ferrari Challenge World Finals, part of the 19th running of the Ferrari FinaliMondiali, took place on Nov 4-7: all drivers from the Italian, European, North American and Asia Pacific 430’s and 458’s series competed for the World Title. The North American contenders raced simultaneously with the Italian ones. Luca di Montezemolohosted a spectacular party to honor the return of the FinaliMondiali to his homeland and to say adieu to the F430 Challenge cars, and offered every kind of Italian delicacy to his guests. The entire paddock was a mix of red and white, surrounded by a showroom at one end, and a helipad at the other. The spectacular 458 Spider was the crown jewel of the event. The rest of the paddock was dedicated to the over fifty Ferrari Challenge vehicles that represented the European, Italian, Asian, and North American series, who all race individually in their respective parts of the world through the year, but co-mingle during this final event. Giacomo Mattioli, principle of Ferrari Beverly Hills and Ferrari of Silicon Valley flew from Los Angeles to Italy for the occasion and attended both races, supporting his drivers and the rest of the team, who achieved great results in both series. About the 430 Series, Christopher Ruud (Ferrari of Silicon Valley) took the final 430 championship with 270 points, after two tremendous races, followed by Juan Hinestrosa (Ferrari of Ft. Lauderdale) with 254 and Damon Ockey (Ferrari of Ontario) with 234. At the beginning of the weekend, the point spread was very close for North America, only 36 points were separating Christopher Ruud (Ferrari of Silicon Valley), Juan Hinestrosa (Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale), and Damon Ockey (Ferrari of Ontario). Each had a chance to win, and after Ruud's fourth-place finish during the first race, it looked like either of the other two might sneak and snatch the trofeo away. During Race 2, though, Christopher Ruud put all the instruction & suggestions from his coach, crew chief, and mechanics together, and was able to secure a second place: this finish was good enough to maintain Ruud atop the standings as the season came to a close. This is Ruud's first championship in the Ferrari Challenge series and Mr. Mattioli couldn’t be any happier to be there and be able to congratulate with him in person. Ferrari Silicon Valley reached great achievement also in the 458 Series, with Harry Cheung securing a second place with 252 points, anticipated by Potolicchio (Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale), and followed by Mark McKenzie (Ferrari of Houston) whofinishedThirdwith 226 points.Potolicchio arrived first on both final races for the North American series and finished the 2011 season with eight overall race wins and 324 points. Giacomo Mattioli is proud of the Ferrari Silicon Valley driver Harry Cheung, who capped off a season of learning and improvement as a driver by coming in second in series points. The FinaliMondiali concludes the 2011 Ferrari Challenge season. Drivers, Team and spectators are already looking forward to a competitive 2012 season, when the Challenge will visit another set of world class tracks.
