i mean to be fair i feel that capitalism has desensitized the USA to mass death a little, if we look at the way covid has been treated. it averages anywhere from 2,000 to 500 death a week (in the US) which would’ve been a big deal 5 years ago, and 95% of people won’t wear a mask about it! but obviously this is a purposeful change in perspective directed by the government & media, since it benefits them for us to not care
Of course Netenyahu’s not gonna run the strikes by the US. But we’re gonna find a way to excuse them, because we always fucking do.
Forgive my cynicism, but all this proves is that, in addition to getting more adept at killing each other, we’ve also become so desensitized that we’ll conjure up any excuse to do it. Humanity is a joke that gets less and less funny by the minute.
What's this 'we'?
Also, I have to gently tell you that the world is not getting desensitized to violence or killing. There used to be public executions, and they were the hot ticket for entertainment: people from miles around would come to watch petty thieves get hanged. Humanity isn't becoming anything, and if you're sinking into hopelessness and despair, which it sounds like you are, then may I strongly suggest logging off and doing some kind of concrete volunteer work in your community? Like, pick up a piece of trash, today. Just one piece of trash. Put it in the garbage. That will have done more for the good of the world than howling about the supposed fall of humanity.
Here's some positivity towards people with medical devices that others view as "gross", or "shouldn't be seen in public". It's bullshit the way this gets treated and I want more positivity about it, so I'm making it myself.
People with catheters. People with stoma bags. People with feeding tubes. People who have tubing or medical alterations they can't hide. People who otherwise have medical devices which are deemed "not socially acceptable" and "gross".
Your medical devices deserve to take up space. We should not be made to feel ashamed for devices which keep us alive. We should not be made to feel insecure for the ways our bodies function and the assistance we need to live. You deserve to be yourself, you deserve to exist in public as a disabled person, and you deserve to be accepted and celebrated as yourself, medical devices included.
Let me preface this by saying that I love each and every one of your sweet faces regardless of what you put on my dash but I have known so much peace since I blocked the Taylor Swift tag.
(for the purposes of this poll, there is no monkey's paw situation: the chore you pick stays the same level of difficulty/grossness/etc. as it normally is for you, and you only have to do it as often as you want to. the chores you don't pick are magically done for you exactly the way you'd want them to be, just with zero effort on your part.)
This isn't aimed at any one person, more of a general observation from my comments/inbox over the last few years, but the number of people who say things like "but that's normal" when I describe hypermobility compared to the number of times healthcare providers look at me like I'm a glitch in the matrix is a Ven diagram made up of a single circle at this point.
Like I feel like some people just aren't envisioning the things I'm describing properly and are imagining a normal range of motion, but I also think some of you might want to consider getting evaulated.
Especially when you send me messages like, "There's nothing wrong with me except for my debilitating joint pain, crippling exhaustion, and the fact that blood shoots out of my eyes once a month, but isn't it normal to be able to do X?"
I'm not an Eurovision fan myself, but since the time of the year is aproaching, just a lil' reminder:
Eurovision declared they would not stop Israel from participating this year because "Eurovision is an apolitical music festival" (but for some reason it took them the blink of an eye to ban Russia when the war with Ukraine started)
Just a few days ago, as the song Israel pretended to submit was revealed and it proved to be nothing but political propaganda, Eurovision asked Israel to change to another song since it would contradict their "apolitical status". Israel aparently has threatened with not participating if they are not allowed to play their song "October Rain" (the fucking audacity)
No matter what, I would recomend to boycott Eurovision by contacting your countries respective radio-television organizations to tell them you are against your country participating if Israel is not kicked out, and not watch the show at all
