A Love of the Past ll Self Prompt
Tell me what's the definition of love. It seems like everybody thinks they done figured it out, but every time they fall up in it, they fall out, in and out it again.
Truth be told, this grumpy man had once been happy. He had once been the top of it all. Crew team, class president, honor roll student, Figaro was a blessing towards his parents. Of course, in the early years of life, he was more of a pain. Though, as an only child, it was all everyone expected. Figaro was spoiled, there was no hiding that. To an extent, the boy took advantage of it. His parents always saw pass his rebellious ways and honored the boy as if he was a hero. To a point, it felt suffocating. The fact that his parents were always on his tail, trying to make sure their little boy had everything he needed. Figaro wanted space, he needed it. However, his parents had him on a tight leash. They feared letting to little boy run free, knowing he was the only one they had. This grew hard, yet he had always admired the fact that they were rather patient. Whatever Figaro blurted out to them, they never struck him in the face. They never pulled out the wooden spoon. Threats were never thrown and it took much patience and will power to not punish Figaro.
His life had all changed when he turned the age of fifteen. A big number in his mind, though the girls had always spooned over turning sixteen. The boy could never fully understand the reasoning, despite the fact it was a halfway point in becoming an adult. However, he had waited years to be the age of fifteen. Why? Well, it was because he was finally the age in which he was able to properly take a girl out on a date. For months, he had admired a young girl from afar. Julie was her name and she had been in most of his classes Sophomore year. While his friends had always tensed him over the fact, Figaro never stopped. It was a crush, a deep crush in which he couldn't shake. The two were friends to an extent. In class, they would exchange a few words towards one another. "Did you ever name your dog?" She would ask with the brightest of smiles. It was one of those smiles that made Figaro weak at the knees. Embarrassing thought, one that he never let his friends find out. Though, when he was finally able to speak he would respond, "Augusta or Gus for short. We named him after a great uncle. Kinda ridiculous." She would giggle at this, shaking her head. "No, why would you think that? Augusta is a cute name for a dog." Than the bell would ring and that brief moment in which his arm brushed against hers as he reached for his books took him into a new world. His heart raced and the boy instantly knew that he had to retreat from the room. As he dashed out, he could hear the calls from his friends and more importantly, the call from Julie. But his face would be red and if anyone found him, they would instantly laugh.
Now the proper age of fifteen, Figaro had a different mind set. He was mature enough, he wasn't scared to back away. Because of this, Figaro would approach the lunch table in which Julie sat. As he spoke out a word, each head twisted around. Everyone was curious on who approached the table. A few giggles could be heard and one girl shoved Julie. Though, before anyone could speak out, Julie had darted out of her chair and was now pulling the boy by his sleeve. "Sorry about my friends." She said, shyly. Figaro could see her face getting red, which only made the boy giggle. The boy would only shake his head and respond with the simple words, "Are you free?" Once those words escaped his lips, they could never be taken back. But, maybe that is what Figaro wanted. He vowed not to back down and this was him honoring his wishes. As the girl took in the word, a small smile appeared on her face. Her face was now completely red and she stumbled to respond to his question. "O-Of course." Than she regained her normal breath and was able to speak normally. "I'd love to." And after that, it all felt like a dream. Day after day, the love that the two shared seemed to grow. Whenever they went out on a date, it felt as if it was the first time they had been together.
Within a few months, Figaro had admitted he was in love. The girl in return said the same. Both fifteen year-old's, never truly understanding the meaning of love. However, they were and nothing could pull them apart. Surrounding couples had always envied the love these two shared. Their relationship seemed too perfect as they never had any reason to fight. And whenever something silly came afloat, one would instantly say "I am sorry, forgive and forget?" That was it. Whatever happened was forgiven and forgotten. However, their happiness was soon stripped away. In a blink of an eye, they went from being in love to being a thousand miles away from each other. Even with the distance, they tried to make it work. Though at some point, Figaro gave up. He loved the girl with his heart, but he was told that it would never last. As much as the boy wished to protest against this, he knew it was true. And when he revealed the fate towards Julie, she was instantly heartbroken. After that moment, his felt his happiness take a spiral downwards. His friends tried to set him up with other girls, but nothing seemed to work. Figaro had changed. He was no longer the boy they once knew. He was lost in the forever pit of loneliness. It was the turning point in his life. The point in which Figaro believed that he was never a person for a happy ending. He was cursed and that was what he truly lived to believe.
