What's your usual chapter number goal?

And how long does it usually take to write it?

Do you have a daily counter that reminds you how many words to write a day?

I may not be the best person to ask this because there is no consistency. I've had chapters that were 1000, I've had chapters that were 20,000. The only important thing to me is that all the meaningful story beats, conversations, character development, and events that were necessary happened. I will not cut a chapter short (i also work with alternating POV so want to finish that POV before starting new chapter) or fill it with things I dont care about because of an arbitrary minimum i feel i must have. it's about what happens, not how many words it took to happen

although anything less than 1000 words I do feel a little bit bad for considering people would have had to wait for such a small chapter to be posted. I usually try to compensate by getting the next chapter out earlier than normal.

Once I have the ideas all noted down, a chapter can generally take me 2-7 days (depending on length). But then again, if i don't write for an entire week because im sleepy, i wouldn't count those days in the time it took to finish the chapter. so really, 2-7 writing sessions where I sit down and focus (outlines are a lifesaver!)

and as for the daily number of words, i am definitely not someone you want to emulate. Last year when I was writing consistently every single day, I told myself 2k a day, which i know can be a lot. i often times didn't even make that goal, but when i did, i was like... hell yeah 😎👍 i don't currently have that goal, but it's always there for me to start back up again

the much healthier way is to not have a very specific number in mind but rather just thinking that anything is progress. Then again, it's up to you. If you do feel like having a goal will push you to work harder and motivate you, then all the power to you. You just gotta make sure any disappointment you feel for not meeting that goal doesn't affect you or doesn't negatively affect you. but consistency is the key, much like how every other person on planet earth that writes would tell you

Follows Simon into the depth of depravity and further still, hand in hand as they march forward and exchange pieces of each other. Their limbs torn off and exchanged, sewn onto the other with sinew from their own body until neither is without the other, until they’re one in the same. Not Simon and not Johnny but something wholly and utterly new, they’ve melted together into one being, where one goes the other will follow without hesitation.

it dipped below my window frame

it didn't bounce back up

the poor tree! the beautiful birch tree has been halved! now I can't see it from my window anymore! I witnessed a massacre!
