For the first sentence prompt:
“Please tell me that’s a joke.”
"It's really, really not."
The last time Evan told him something so absolutely unbelievable Jared had barked out a laugh for a true lack of anything else. Now all he could do was stare, wide-eyed, still sorta hoping for some sort of cruel fucking punchline, because.. well, the alternative sort of made his stomach turn.
He can’t tell if Evan’s trembling from having bared the nighttime December temperature in only a hoodie prior to clamoring in through Jared’s window, or from the weight of what he’d just admitted happened. Probably both given the way Evan half turns to shakily shut the window while he chokes on what sounds like a barely concealed sob.
“Just.. can you— Jared, can you just take it down, it’s—”
“You just forged his fucking suicide note?!”

She’s sitting on her bed cross-legged, holding an old stuffed animal. It’s a duck, the one that Connor won at the Oktoberfest carnival when he was eleven and she was ten. They’d run off from their parents down the midway with the five dollars that Larry had given each of them clenched tightly in their fists. Connor hadn’t thought of the duck for years. The memory of it comes back now, as bright as the sun had been that day. Connor had just started his first of many growth spurts, and Zoe was still too small to win at the ring toss. Connor had been able to get enough rings over the bottles to win her that stupid duck.
He didn’t know she had kept it all these years.

yes folks, i’m thinking about zoe again
specifically..
i headcanon that the biggest reasons Zoe (originally) joined band were 1. to gain her parents attention and approval and 2. she does anything she can to stay busy and stay out of the house and this is the perfect thing for that.
now, i’ll note that i DO think shes predisposed to music and enjoying it anyway, but not necessarily in a band environment. she would discover that affinity later though.
so i’m sure it works for a while, her parents being proud and supportive and making sure to attend every concert of course. ..until they don’t. it happens slowly- one parent not being able to show up for whatever reason. this happens a few times, but one of them is always there.
and then neither can come, but they tell her ahead of time and apologize profusely about it. they promise it’ll never happen again. zoe feels a little better when they say that.
the night of the next concert, zoe knows neither of them are in the crowd. she looks. she looks again. right up until she has to get into place, they’re not there. they’re not running late. she tries to call them, but doesn’t get a response.
they were supposed to come- why aren’t they here??
and then after, her mom calls her, voice broken. theyre at the hospital. connor attempted - this is first time. even zoe, master of keeping up appearances, cannot keep the shock from her face and the panic from shaking her body when she abruptly starts packing up and tells the others no, she can’t stay and hang out with them after the concert tonight like they always do. they ask why, they’re concerned. zoe clams up hard and refuses to give them any answers.
she takes off for the hospital, with her newly acquired license and car. it’s dark. it’s hard to see when her eyes keep blurring with tears. they’ve been building up all night- they’re tears of frustration, of fear, bitterness.
zoe’s relieved when they say he’s going to make it. but she can’t make herself look at him when he wakes up.
her bandmates give her the cold shoulder after that, now that they’ve realized just how much she keeps locked up. zoe gets used to it. they get over it after a bit, and theyre all nice to each other, but she keeps her careful distance. this is the way it has to be, she tells herself.
her parents dont come to concerts anymore. theyre afraid to leave connor alone at home.
