TEACUPDATE: an afternoon perusal at goodwill took a fortuitous turn upon spying what I believed to be a hand painted little number manufactured in occupied japan
PICTURED: a wide-mouth teacup with a spray of hand painted flowers on the inside. The largest and most notable flower looks a bit like a chrysanthemum, in orange and pink colouration. All the flowers are outlined in a delicate and shiny gold leaf.
The backstamp signifies its origin in occupied Japan, which dates it between 1945 and 1952. Despite the fabulous bone china production that took place in this period, this was a pretty shit time for everyone who lived in Japan. This teacup would have been produced to cater to a Western, colonial market.
