The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an affectionate and playful dog that eagerly interacts with the humans and with the other pets and dogs. Shyness and aggression is not a part of this breed’s genes. They can be pet as household pleasurable companions and is known for warming laps.
History and Background

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small spaniel breed often termed as a toy dog by the Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club, originating from the United Kingdom. It is widely used as a pet dog in the United States and the United Kingdom nowadays. The breed has four distinct combinations of colours 1) Chestnut and white 2) Black/White/Tan 3) Black and Tan and last but not the least Ruby. The breed shared its history with the Charles Spaniel until the end of 1920 before it was interbred with the flat-nosed breed to re-create its original significance in the breed. The name of the breed comes from the association with the late King Charles II of England as he was fond of this breed.  
Personality
The breed is very much adorable and friendly with big expressing eyes and a constant wagging tail to show their love for interaction. They are very much people-oriented and love to explore more and more. They do get along with the children and the other pets as well. Their normal life span is about 12 to 44 years that depends on the individual and their upbringing.
Nutrition and Health Care
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel should be fed high-quality dog food as per their age. They are prone to overweight so that needs to be taken proper care. Proper grooming and training should be given with regular combing and brushing their fur with a gentle shampoo and conditioner. Grooming session will also enhance the dog and owner bond through interaction that is very much necessary with this breed, being very much of a people-friendly breed. Their ears should be regularly checked for signs of infections and regular grooming of their nails should be maintained.  
Health Issues
There are several issues that this breed is prone to. These include the eye and the ear infections along with retinal problems and cataracts. This breed suffers from patella luxation, a hip disorder and also hip dysplasia.  Cavaliers suffer from a neurological disease called syringomyelia and from a heart ailment known as mitral heart disease. All these conditions can be taken care of by proper treatment and diagnosis. Health check-up should be done constantly and tests like hip evaluation, patella evaluation and cardiac exams should be given priority.
Exercise and Training
Although they are known as lap dogs generally but they need regular walk with their owners and do like canine sports. They are an intelligent breed and do learn very quickly. Cavaliers excel in many canine sports including obedience, agility and rally. They are termed as therapy dogs for their sweet nature and early socialization can improve their manners and they may be comfortable with a wide variety of people and situations.
